Avatar Redesigns

Just before the posts got deleted I showed a little picture I did of a redesigned Lunarman avatar.



In addition, I had recently redesigned my own avatar.



Just recently, it came to my attention I never saw Benton Grey have an avatar. Apparently he had one some time ago, but it was lost. However, knowing his love for Aquaman (which I share), I got a vision of something. Thus, I drew this.



Will I keep on redesigning avatars? Well... maybe... I've got a neat idea for a House Quake vs. Supercracker picture that I might get around to drawing some time. Anyhow, hope you enjoy.

Wow!  These look great Unko, I like your line and color work, and they have a great design sense.  Good font choices too!

man, all my drawings for the re-designs that I skin are just basic sketches, and the characters are in very plain and boring poses.  I was working on an actual battle pic (of my re-designed Syn brutally kicking...my own arse?) that I was going to try to put up once I finished Syn's re-design skin, but:

1) I suck with drawing human figures in perspective, especially when they're in poses I'm not used to drawing. (ie. my avatar getting smashed into the ground, which is at the "front")

2) I have no idea how to go about colouring it in photoshop.

3) I don't...have a scanner.  :doh:

Dude, Pwime... I've seen your skins. To colour a picture in photoshop you can just do... exactly the same thing. Just make sure you have the lineart over top of that, and set to multiply. And you can get scanners for pretty cheap. Actually, I should probably get a new one some time.

Actually, I've been doing something different for this. I scan it huge and B&W, then flood fill. I never used to do that, since my linework is pretty use and has gaping holes all over the place, but it's actually really easy. Then I can just throw in some shadow areas, or other little ticks. I keep it pretty cartoony/two-toned, but it's not hard to get more depth if you want.

Also, if you notice... None of those guys are really in perspective. There's a little bit of faked stuff, but really it's just awful proportions, there to trick the eye. These guys standing straight up would be totally disproportionate. But it's okay, because they are just goofy cartoony drawings. For poses, I just take ideas from actual comics for the basic pose, and then draw what I feel. In my heart.

I'm not really certain what your avatar looks like, Nymph, besides the little micro hero.
And doesn't she have watery powers?

For some reason I'm sort of envisioning these guys as a team, as I do them. I don't know why. But, powerwise, they are unique, without crossover. Maybe I'll do yours some day though, but I don't want this to turn into a request thread. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up with that, and some people might feel my take didn't live up to their expectations.

Here's the latest one, and it's pretty darn creepy.


I'm going to try to get at least three different pictures done before I update again. Thing is, I'm not sure of all the subject matter yet, so who knows how long it will be. As for Liberty Bay art, I'm not really doing anything, but maybe I'll whip up a couple of screens for them.

Dude!  Unko, I know you asked me, but I had no idea you had actually done it.  Benton looks REALLY awesome, and I love the background you've given him.  That is an amazing piece of work, my friend...I wish I was gray and could breath underwater.... :(

those are super cool, unko. HQ vs. SC looks like an intense fight. The only way to make that syn pic cooler is if you have him flying out a window because a pair of wings hit him.

Well, if you look in the replies there, you can see the redo I did of Syn.

Here it is again anyhow, in case you missed it:


And I finally got around to finishing my Pwime redesign:


In the Unkoverse The Pwime was an alien virus. It would infect a planet, transforming all living organisms into their black mass of shadow and red energy. It would then collectively attain all the traits of whatever it had absorbed. After consuming countless planets, it became pretty darn powerful, let me tell you. Eventually, a piece of it found Earth and it tried to begin consumption, however something happened. The very first living thing it came upon was an average human. It tried to absorb him but something was different. Some biological factor caused the reverse to happen. The entire energy of The Pwime was consumed into this one human.

Anyhow, he gained the ability to release The Pwime, and command it. He does not know nearly the full extend of The Pwime's abilities yet, but he is learning. Mostly he just uses it to make sweet shadow monsters though.

Hmm... I wonder if I should write all my changed background stories for these characters. Are people interested in knowing? I'd keep them short, of course.
