If you were superhero in the real what would your hero be like?  Would you have a flashy costume  :verf or would you blend in  with everyone around?  What powers  :msmjb would you have?  How would the real world react to you: fear, hope, hero worship?   :rickbm

blend in,low profile, bust dope makers/dealers,take their money to make ends meet and tip the cops off to where to find the bodies.unconscious if possible.

My idea of a "real" superhero is, oddly enough, Superman. I've always thought that to get dressed up as a target in one of those admittedly ridiculous costumes and not be laughed out of town, it would be necessary to have tremendous powers like Superman's. Nobody laughs at someone who can fly, outrace bullets, tear apart tanks with his bear hands and shrug off any attack. And they don't tug on his cape, either.
It's interesting to me that in the early superhero comics, before the conventions of the genre were defined, superheroes, including Superman, went into action in or out of costume, just as the occasion demanded. In the Lowther novel of the 1940s, Superman wears the costume apparently just as a potential distraction, taking care that no one ever sees him in action because of speed and/or darkness.
By the way, only a full face mask, like Spider-Man's, or the ability to physically transform yourself would safeguard a secret identity, if anything would. I think the take on secret identities in the Ultimate Spider-Man is probably the most "realistic" — eventually, almost everyone would know.

As for how the world would treat you, that's easy. Look at the fates of Socrates, Jesus, Gandhi. Lincoln, etc. The world would envy you and want you dead, and once you were safely dead it would worship you.

I should be Guitar God, The best guitarist how ever lived.

I will not have any powers by myself, but with my super special awesome guitar, I will have been capable to make mass destruction on par with Black Bolt!

I'm not sure about my costume, spandex for sure but...

I don't know what the World think about me either

Didn't we just do this thread?

Like, isn't it still the 3rd topic in General?

Yes, I ask questions to which I already know the answers.

Protomorph

This is a totally different question.

I thought the same thing until I reread them both.
The other thread asks what would you be like if you had your avatar's powers.
This one asks if you could be a superhero, what would you be like?  Similar, but different takes.

If I were a superhero:
I'd want a mental power such as telekinesis.  I'd probably not have a flashy costume, but I would probably not be plainclothes either.  Something protective and practical.  Probably some kevlar for those times I'm caught unawares and can't TK shield.  I'd probably keep my actions relatively secret, and my identity even more so.  I wouldn't want to risk my family's safety, become a labrat or an indentured servant to the government.  Since I'd be superheroing in secret, the public would be generally unaware of my presence.  I'd be no more real than a cryptid.

Greetings all,

Killing time while I dl'd the LSH mod someone graciously created. Since I don't have an avatar per se, I can't really respond to the similar thread down below.

Powers that I would like to have I can answer. Flight is an obvious one; a little Super Strength never hurts, but the one that I would like is Mind Control; all for nefarious reasons I am afraid.

I'm probably daming myself by saying this but if I had technology I would be a doctor doom style dictator imposing my will (and the metric system) with extreme prejudice. If powerless but semi-mad with tragedy it would be batman style with low tech, training and a couple of fighting sticks... vs either the drug dealers or certain politicians who need a reminder of how vulnerable people are when they make their own people miserable.

Pyroclasm has described the Turtle in Wild Cards, a TK-powered crusader who flies around hidden inside an old VW body to protect himself. The Wild Cards mosaic novel series has some interesting ideas on this topic.

GGiant

Since you said, "superheroes", I don't know.

I wouldn't bother if I wasn't immune to bullets somehow. I could fight crime now but I'd die. I'd probably design the coolest possible costume I could. Spandex doesn't translate well to real life...
