Title: Mark Waid on Freelancing
Post by: Glitch Girl on October 04, 2013, 03:09:24 PM
Mark posted this earlier this week and it's been making the rounds.  It's a bit long, but well worth the read, especially in light of  the current comic creation climate.

I didn't know ThrillBent. Solid article by Waid.

Thanks for sharing, GG.

Very nice blog.  Very sound advice.

On the surface, it seems so obvious... if you're an artist or a writer your future depends on the quality of your work, and not necessarily what "Editor X" wants.

There's an old maxim about giving a client what they need, not necessarily what they want.  It's the contractor's job to convince the client that what they're giving the client is what the client really needs.

But I can see where that could be harder to do with freelance artwork/writing for comics.  If they don't please the editor, the submission will never get past the editor's desk.  And if they're working with an established character, they can't exactly take the product anywhere else.

But like Mark Waid suggested, it might be better to walk away sometimes.
