Title: Gladiator's Invulnerability
Post by: Shogunn2517 on January 06, 2015, 06:07:24 AM
Searched for a bit, but I was wondering anyone know of the best way of simulating it in-game?  Whether tie it to energy levels or a form swap when panic or something?  This would be my third go at the herofile in like the last decade, but I can't remember how I did it previously.

Thoughts?

I have given my Gladiator the Classic Superhuman attribute, which includes the Vulnerability attribute. I changed the Invulnerability to Invulnerable (10), as I believe it comes with Invulnerable (20), in conjunction with the Concrete Material type. I also give him the Timid attribute which has the chance of activating when he takes damage. I figure this simulates his losing of confidence. I then change the Target Type of the Vulnerability to isPanicked in the FFX Control Centre. Of course, you can also change what type of Vulnerability affects him, as well.

I use this method because he has resistance to mental attacks (I also gave him Disciplined), and I wouldn't want him getting Panicked and becoming vulnerable due to some sort of Panic power which is a Mental attack.

You know what, I like that.  That's a good idea.  I like that.  That should work.

What I did, however was to give him Metabolic Strength and Body Aura, each of which would tie his confidence to his energy level.  The more energy he has the more strength and invulnerability he has.  However, if he's out of energy or tired, then weaker and can be hurt.  But I might use a combination of both.  If he's out of energy or panicked he could be weaker.  I'll play around with it.

It's definitely one of those things that doesn't directly translate over to Freedom Force. Well, I hope my idea helped or, at least, got you thinking in a different way for an approach that fits your hero files best.

I'd probably avoid it personally all together and make him have his high stats and add in a special weakness to sonics somehow. Kallark in his origin story was specifically selected for his post and title of Praetor on the basis that he's either so unswerving and/or stubborn. In other words he rarely doubts himself making a model Strontian and it shows in comics as he usually doesn't waver (it happens but again not often). He's however shown more a weakness to taking specific vibrations to the ear drums, sort of his version of Kryptonite. Sound isn't the specific issues but I'd use something relevant in FF in order to recreate the effect is I guess how I mean that. To date I think I remember Hulk and White Noise have shut him down using such a tactic and the Surfer needed to only suggest it to give him pause. I could see trying to put the confidence waver in effect but also see it more often making him weaker in game than appears in comic.
