Title: Sentinels of the Multiverse Game 10
Post by: catwhowalksbyhimself on May 24, 2016, 12:45:31 AM
Sorry it took so long.  I have been trying to create a better hero selection form, but it's taking forever, so I'm not going to wait.

Pictures will be missing.  Parts will not have their variants yet.  I will, of course, add the variants for any heroes I haven't added them to and make new picture banners when needed.

That being said, pick your heroes!

Yo, Y'all, who are just skimming this post because they don't like their forums showing up as 'unread'. Come have a go! We need one more. It's easy to pick up and crazy fun. All you need to do is pick a hero and regularly correct Cat's counting skills.

I've been getting distracted lately, sorry.

I'm still hoping for one or two players, but you only need 3.  We'll get on to the villain selection.

In addition to these, we also have the team villains.  There are now 15 of them instead of just the 5 we used before.

I'd recommend either the Ennead or Deadline as interesting villains that shake things up a bit, but I will do whatever the players want.

There are no Ongoing or Equipment cards to destroy and no damage is dealt.

All Green Hand effects trigger.

Shu's effect has already triggered.

Set deals all the heroes 1 Lightning damage.

End: None

It is now Fanatic's turn.

Impromptu Invention lets you draw Infrared Eyepiece: Equipment, Limited--Power: Reveal the top 2 cards of the Villain deck. Put 1 of them on top of the Villain deck and the other on the bottom. Draw a card.

Impromput Invention also gives you an extra card play.   Would you like to play another card?

can I get my Utility Belt this time?

You said that this was what you wished to use the first one to get, so it's already out.  The Eyepiece was the free bonus draw.

The card does 3 completely different things.

1. Draws another card(Infrared Eyepiece)
2. Digs out an Equipment card(Utility Belt)
3. Plays another card.

So you already got your Utility Belt out.  Best use it on something else.

You draw Grappling Hook: One-Shot--Destroy 1 Ongoing or Environment card. You may draw a card.

It is now the Environment's turn.

Start: Nothing

Play: Akana: 8 HP, Mummy, Trial--Whenever a Villain Target is destroyed, play the top card of the Environment deck.

End: Nothing

That makes it the Ennead's turn.

Start: Nothing

Play: The Desert's Wrath: One-Shot, [Green Hand]--Destroy all Environment cards. The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals each Hero Target X Projectile Damage, where X = the number of cards destroyed by this card.

Akana is destroyed and Nuit hit's all heroes for 1 damage.  All Green Hand abilities are activated.

Shu heals all villains for 1.

Set hits all heroes for 1 damage.

It is now Fanatic's turn.

If I play Holy Nova, ending Nuit, does their damage reduction bonus still count for the other targets in that same move?

Also, I'm thinking its not worth trying to take out the scarabs, since Glitchy has an environment busting card anyway. I can only do 2 damage max, dunno if Guise can finish it off on his turn so he gets a card draw. Thoughts?

I say take out Nuit...the blades can be taken out by either Glitch or by anyone who is willing to take 3 hp damage to destroy it.  The scarabs should be gone.

The instant a card is destroyed, it's effects cease.  So if you killed Nuit first, her damage shield would drop and all her friends would be hit without the benefit of the damage reduction.  This is why players are allowed to choose the order of these things.

And yes, Scarabs is long gone.

Play Infrared Eyepiece and use it.

Debating about my second power - I can do 5 points to someone (probably Osiris) or 3 points to Osiris and Set (Shu is immune), or I can Activate Stealth and soak the 1 point of damage from the Swinging Blades on the Environment's turn, destroying them.  I kinda want to see what the Eyepiece pulls up first before I decide.

I can Activate Stealth and soak the 1 point of damage from the Swinging Blades on the Environment's turn, destroying them.
That won't work.  The card specifically says it is only destroyed if you actually take damage.  If you take 0, then it is not destroyed.

The Eyepiece reveals

Death's Grasp: One-Shot, [Purple Ankh]--The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals the Hero Target with the lowest HP (H) minus 2 Infernal Damage.
Elemental Storm: One-Shot, [Green Hand]--The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals each Hero Target 1 Lightning Damage, 1 Fire Damage, and 1 Cold Damage.

Choose one for the top of the deck.

Sorry, I was thinking of a totally different card.  You still can't do that, but for different reasons.

I Can Do That Too does copy powers--And Absolution does have a power--but it only copies powers on character cards.  So you can either use Redeem from Fanatic and Stealth from Wraith.

I was able to be in beta testing games for the characer, and earlier versions did not specify the character had to be in play, making it much more powerful.

You get an extra power, not an extra play.  You have no powers that allow you to play an extra card.  Also, Smite the Transgressor won't work on Shu.  He's immune to melee.

Start: Nothing
Play: Spike Trap   : Trial   --At the end of the Environment turn, a Player may destroy 1 of their Equipment cards to destroy this card. At the start of the Environment turn, deal the Target with the lowest HP 3 Melee Damage.
End: Does anyone wish to destroy an Equipment card?

I'll knock it out later on my turn with Consecrated Ground, so folks can keep their equipment.

Start: Environment Trash gets reshuffled into deck.  (No trash, but deck still gets reshuffled)

Play: Mass Overheating: One-Shot, [Red Sun]--Destroy (H) minus 1 Equipment cards. The Villain Target with the highest HP deals each Hero Target (H) minus 2 Fire Damage.

This triggers Shu, healing every non hero target for 1.

This also triggers Set, playing another card

Mass Overheating: One-Shot, [Red Sun]--Destroy (H) minus 1 Equipment cards. The Villain Target with the highest HP deals each Hero Target (H) minus 2 Fire Damage.

So choose 4 out of your 6 Equipment cards to be destroyed, then everyone takes 1 Fire damage twice.

BTW: Does this include card in hands (like Grappling Hook) or just cards in play.

Throwing-Knives and Infrared Eyepiece will go for sure I know that.  That leaves two more to destroy, correct?

Yes, two more.
The word destroy only refers to things already in play.  Things in hand can only be discarded.

Shouldn't Beefcake have redirected the damage I took from either Set or the Enviroment?

Move: heal and draw one card.

Enviro turn I'll discard both I Can Do That cards and Lemme See That to end the current enviro card.

Yes, it should have.  I'll make the corrections. No environment cards have hp, so Set takes the damage.

Also, not sure what you intend to do on your turn.  Heal how?  Need to be more specific.

Am back, though looks like I didn't miss much.

My friends and I ended up playing several games of Sentinels at the convention after I found the Shattered Timelines supplement and two additional environments (Omnitron VI and Celestial Tribunal).  We did six player games vs Voss and La Captain and one aborted attempt at Iron Legion, which we quickly discovered was a) probably too advanced for most people's 2nd game ever and b) is REALLY tough starting out with a group of 6 since he starts with five ongoings. (He got swapped for La Captain)  Between this and Red Dragon Inn, a fun time was had by all.

I missed when Swarm of Scarabs got destroyed but since it appears to be gone I'll play Grappling Hook on Urshe, use Razor Ordinance on Set, and go Stealth.

Osiris's incap ability is that he destroys the lowest hp non character target at the start of every villain turn.  That happened to be Swarm of Scarabs this round.

It is now the Tomb of Anubis's turn.

Start: Nothing

Play: Spike Trap: Trial--At the end of the Environment turn, a Player may destroy 1 of their Equipment cards to destroy this card. At the start of the Environment turn, deal the Target with the lowest HP 3 Melee Damage.

End: Does anyone wish to destroy a Equipment to destroy Spike Trap.  Note that it attacks the lowest no matter what side it's on, so it can attack Villains.

Haven't heard from Reep yet, but that's majority, so we'll move along.

Start: Enviroment trash shuffled into deck.

Play: Death's Grasp: One-Shot, [Purple Ankh]--The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals the Hero Target with the lowest HP (H) minus 2 Infernal Damage.  Set deals Guise 1 damage.

This triggers all Purple Ankh effects.

Nephthys heals all villains.

Atum searches the villain deck for a Red Sun card.  He finds Sun's Fury:One-Shot, [Red Sun]--The Villain Target with the highest HP deals each Hero Target (H) minus 2 Fire Damage.  Atum deals all the heroes 1 damage.  Wraith takes none, but loses her immunity.

This triggers all Red Sun effects.

Shu heals all non-heroes.

Set plays an extra card.  He plays Elemental Storm: One-Shot, [Green Hand]--The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals each Hero Target 1 Lightning Damage, 1 Fire Damage, and 1 Cold Damage. Set deals damage to everyone.

This triggers all Green Hand effects.

Shu has already triggered.

Set hits everyone for 1 point of damage.

Neph hits everyone for 1 point of damage.

Guise and Fanatic will do their discard for damage things, that I forget earlier (won't change anything.)

That makes it Fanatic's turn.

Blimey Reep, (sorry  ;) )  you think we can get one of them down enough for it to kick in?  Guise is pretty low, so we'd have to do a minimum of 14 points to Nephthys in this round, barring damage done to us on villains turn.

I let this be y'all's call but I do have a spare targeting computer in my hand waiting if need be.

Title: Re: Sentinels of the Multiverse Game 10

If we don't get hit hard, we can use it against Nomti instead.  I say we hold off...if it comes down to me being too low on hp, I can use one of my retcons to get rid of it before it hits me.

Blimey Reep, (sorry  ;) )

It took me an Englishly long time to work out what you were apologizing for.

Ah, you're right. I missed that Set had been wiped out (it took me about five rewrites of this post to work that out. A little bit slow these days). I'm all for destroying the Spike Trap then, since as you quite rightly say it'll take some time for us to get NephyTheElephant to the lowest HP.

Thinking ahead to my own move (I'm practically committed to this play regardless of the villain's turn):
I'll destroy the Divine Focus this round. It's done good. I'll play my remaining Aegis followed by Redeem.
Title: Re: Sentinels of the Multiverse Game 10
Post by: Glitch Girl on September 29, 2016, 08:05:29 PM
One last thing, is Nomti affected by Spike trap?  Think we can get it lowest before the Environment's turn and is it worth it?
Title: Re: Sentinels of the Multiverse Game 10
Post by: Reepicheep on September 29, 2016, 08:22:47 PM
We could probably lower him below our current lowest, but we may get hit by the villains in a moment.

Guise's call on the Spike Trap, since he'll be the one taking the hit provisionally.

Okay, in that case, Nomti smacks Nephthys for 4 points of damage.

It is now the Ennead's turn.

Start: Environment trash gets shuffled into the deck.

Nomti is destroyed.

The top card of the environment deck is played.  It is Swarm of Scarabs: Trial, 5 HP--Reduce Damage dealt to this card by 1. Players cannot draw Hero cards.

The top card of every deck is played.

Ennead: Death's Grasp: One-Shot, [Purple Ankh]--The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals the Hero Target with the lowest HP (H) minus 2 Infernal Damage.

Guise takes 1 damage.

This triggers all Purple Ank abilities.  Nephthys heals all villains by 1.

Atum goes searching for a Red Sun card.  He finds Blast of Flame: One-Shot, [Red Sun]--The Villain Target with the highest HP deals the Hero Target with the highest HP (H) minus 1 Fire Damage.

Wraith takes 0 damage thanks to Stealth.

This triggers all Red Sun abilities, but there are none.

Fanatic: Embolden: Ongoing--Play this card next to a Hero Character card. That Hero may use an additional Power during their power phase. At the end of that Hero's turn, Fanatic may deal them 2 Radiant Damage. If they take no Damage this way, destroy this card.

Fanatic, choose who to play this card on.

Guise: Say Cheese!: One-shot--Guise deals 1 target 1 cold damage. Then, if that target is still in play and has 5 or fewer HP, you may play 1 card.

Choose your target and (if applicable) play an additional card.

Then I'll target Neph with Cheesy instead. And if possible use the idol to heal. Turn ended.

You can't use the idol because it isn't your turn, so you get no powers.  You also can't end the turn for the same reason.

Continuing the Villain's turn, Wraith plays Stun Bolt: Equipment--Power: The Wraith deals 1 Target 1 Projectile Damage. Until the start of your next turn, reduce all Damage dealt by that Target by 1.

Environment: Judgement of Anubis--When this card enters play, search the Environment trash and deck for Anubis. Put him into play. If you searched the Environment deck, shuffle it. At the end of the Environment turn, Anubis deals each Target 2 Infernal Damage, and destroys this card.

Play: Elemental Storm: One-Shot, [Green Hand]--The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals each Hero Target 1 Lightning Damage, 1 Fire Damage, and 1 Cold Damage.

Everyone takes 3 damage.  This triggers all Green Hand abilities.  Nephthys deals everyone 1 more damage.

End: Nothing.

It is now Fanatic's turn.

With Micro Targeting Computer, would you be able to OHKO the scarabs with your razor ordinance?

Or are the scarabs not long for this world anyway because of any one of the other billion of damage outputs around the corner?

Edit: Osiris would knock it out. BUT if you kill the scarabs, would he then destroy Anubis for us?

(Incidentally, I plan on destroying the Embolden on Glitchy when her turn ends. Unless you would like me to hit you for 2hp, Glitch?)

Yes, if you kill the scarabs, Osiris would destroy Anubis.

Scarabs keeps you from drawing cards, not playing them.

I think I need what few HPs I have left so go ahead and destroy it Reep.

Thing is, I can't OHKO the Scarabs because they take -1 damage.  They'd still be up with 1

Start: Spike trap deals Swarm of Scarab 2 melee damage.

Play: Swinging Blades: Trial--At the end of the Environment turn, deal each Target 3 Melee Damage. At the start of the Environment turn, a Hero Target may take (H) minus 2 Melee Damage. If they take Damage this way, destroy this card.

End: Does anyone wish to destroy an Equipment card to destroy Spike Trap?

So end of Enviro's turn:

Judgement of Anubis deals every target 2 infernal damage, then destroys itself.  Wraith uses up her stealth and takes no damage.

Swinging Blades his every targets for 3 damage.  Guise goes down.  Goodbye, guise, we'll miss you.  Well not really, because in this game, incapped players still get a turn, just more limited and with no card plays.  But we can pretend that we'll miss him.  Anubis doesn't not like the destruction and punishes  Wriath for 2 points of damage. Swarm of Scarabs is also destroyed. Since that was a trial, you can move the idol to someone else if you like.

It is now the Ennead's turn.

Start: Environment trash shuffled into its deck.

Anubis is destroyed.

The environment plays Rod of Anubis: Treasure, Relic--When a Trial card is destroyed, 1 Player may place this card in their play area. They gain the following Power: Power: Your Hero deals 1 Target 2 Infernal Damage.

The top cards of all decks are played.

Villain: Ancient Magicks: One-Shot, [Green Hand]--Destroy (H) minus 1 Hero Ongoing and/or Equipment cards. The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals any Hero with Ongoing and/or Equipment cards in play (H) minus 2 Infernal Damage.

Chose which 2 cards to destroy and who takes the one damage if both of you still have Ongoing or Equipments.

Question: Glitch played stun bolt on Anubis, right? So shouldn't the hit on Guise be reduced by 1, thus saving his life? Same with the hit on Wraith?

As for the villain turn, I really can't afford to lose my Aegis, but I will take the damage.

Sorry about the wait. Busy, busy.  And yes, Blatant reference is a valid choice.

Also, I'm going to have to go card by card through Guise's entire deck to recreate his deck up to this point as I already disassembled it when I thought he went down and mixed all his cards up, so there will be a slight delay.  Sorry.

But we can see what card Fanatic plays.

We get Brutal Censure:One-Shot--Fanatic deals 1 Target 2 Radiant Damage. You may draw a card.

Choose your target Fanatic.

Fanatic draws Final Dive:One-Shot--Destroy a Target with 4 or fewer HP, other than a Character card. Fanatic deals 1 Target X Projectile Damage, where X = the destroyed Target's current HP before it was destroyed.

Guise plays Selling Out: Ongoing, Limited--Gotta have all the best swag. At the end of the environment turn, you may discard 1 card. You may play up to 3 cards that share a keyword with the discarded card. At the start of your turn, destroy this card.

Wraith plays Utility Belt: Equipment, Limited--You may use an additional power during your power phase.  As you already have one, it is discarded.

Play: The Grave Beckons: One-Shot, [Purple Ankh]--Destroy each non-Villain Target with 3 or fewer HP.

Congrats, Guise, you just narrowly survived that.  This activates all Purple Ankh effects.  Each villain target gains 1 hp.

Atum fishes for a Red Sun card.  He finds Blast of Flame: One-Shot, [Red Sun]--The Villain Target with the highest HP deals the Hero Target with the highest HP (H) minus 1 Fire Damage.  Wraith takes 2 damage.

This would trigger all Red Sun effects, but there are none.

It is now Fanatic's turn.

I'll be discarding both end of days as part of Divine Focus.

Whats the strategy here? Our best hope is to try and prevent any more baddies coming into play, but with just nine cards left in the villain deck and two cards being played per round, I kinda see it being a heck of a job to finish off both Neph and Atum before another miscreant pops up.

If we focus on killing Atum first, then at least he'll shuffle all the villain cards each turn and maybe reduce the chances of another villain appearing. Neph's incapacitated power sounds like it'll be a proper pain in the butt.

I can take the damage from swinging blades to destroy it, unless you guys feel that the extra damage to Neph and Atum is worth it.

Gads, I have no idea.  We're so low on HP I'm not sure if we're going to make it a few more rounds.

Without my targeting computer, I can't do enough damage to take out Nephthys.  Here's what I thought though : I can play MegaComputer to help against the environment, then hit Atum with Razor Ordinance.  I can hit someone with Stun Bolt and reduce their damage as well, possibly Nephthys since they're most likely to do damage and I can't do damage to a trial card.  Sound good?

Okay, new plan: Play Throat Jab on Nephthys so they can't do damage, hit Atum with Stun bolt to lessen whatever damage he does by 1 and Razor Ordinance to start whittling him down.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is now the Tomb's turn.

Start: Fanatic tries to take damage  from the Swinging blades, but since the computer reduces its damage to 0, she can't and it stays.

Play: Swarm of Scarabs: Trial, 5 HP--Reduce Damage dealt to this card by 1. Players cannot draw Hero cards.

End: Swinging Blades hits everything for 2 points of damage.

It is now the Ennead's turn.

Start: Environment trash shuffled into its deck.

Swarm of Scarabs destroyed.

The environment plays The Challenge of Fire: Trial--At the end of the Environment turn, deal each Target 2 Fire Damage. At the start of the Environment turn, each Player may discard up to 3 cards. If (H) plus 2 cards are discarded this way, destroy this card.

The top card of each deck is played in order.

Ennead: The Desert's Wrath: One-Shot, [Green Hand]--Destroy all Environment cards. The Villain Target with the lowest HP deals each Hero Target X Projectile Damage, where X = the number of cards destroyed by this card.

All Environment targets are destroyed, but Nephthys can't deal the damage.  This actives her Green Hand effect, but she still can't deal the damage.  Wraith just saved the game for you all.

Fanatic: "Absolution": Equipment, Relic, Limited--When this card enters play, Fanatic regains 1 HP.Power: Select Melee, Fire, or Radiant as this card's Damage type. Fanatic deals 1 Target 3 Damage of that type.

Guise: Say Cheese!: One-shot--Guise deals 1 target 1 cold damage. Then, if that target is still in play and has 5 or fewer HP, you may play 1 card.

Who do you wish to damage, Guise?

Tomb of Anubis: Cast into the Underworld: Increase Damage dealt by Environment Targets by 1. At the start of the Environment turn, if there are (H) or more Environment cards in play, destroy this card.

Ok, let's see. I'll hit Atum with Sanctifying Strike and then again with Absolution.

Edit: That is, destroying Divine Focus at the start of my move as well.

That makes it the Ennead's turn.

Start:
Nuit: Environment trash reshuffled into deck.
Osiris: Shamise destroyed
Shu: The environment plays Swarm of Scarabs: Trial, 5 HP--Reduce Damage dealt to this card by 1. Players cannot draw Hero cards.
Set: Cards are played.

Villain: Blast of Flame: One-Shot, [Red Sun]--The Villain Target with the highest HP deals the Hero Target with the highest HP (H) minus 1 Fire Damage.
Geb hits Fanatic for 2.
Fanatic: Final Dive:One-Shot--Destroy a Target with 4 or fewer HP, other than a Character card. Fanatic deals 1 Target X Projectile Damage, where X = the destroyed Target's current HP before it was destroyed.
There is nothing that can be destroyed, so it's discarded.
Guise: Gimmicky Character: One-Shot--Discard the top card of every deck. Guise regains HP equal to the number of target cards discarded. You may play a card. What's wrong with shark-jumping, anyway?
No cards with HP discards, so no healing.  Would you like to play a card?

We really needed one more player to handle this...along with some better draws (could've used Guise the Barbarian earlier). I'm really amazed, though, that I was the last to go because many times I thought I'd fall only to not.

The Ennead tend to be much harder with fewer players, especially compared to other villains.  You ended up taking on 7 of them, which is over twice your own number.  With 4 players, you would have faced 8, only at twice your number and five players would have faced the full nine, but at under twice their numbers.  With three you can fight 9, so up to three times, but with 5 players, they can still only face up to nine, which is FAR easier with 2 extra heroes.

Still you did surprisingly well in spite of the some of the unlucky draws.

That was also an unusually long game.  Not just in real time, but as far as number of rounds.  Brutally long in fact.

Good job all, in spite of the challenges.

That's good to know at least.

I'm up for another game eventually, but after a break first.  A little unwind time, plus holidays are coming up.

It'd be fun to consider some FR themed custom decks.

I feel we'd have won if we'd had nipple hoses.

There are, in fact, several available.  The Ant, Minute Man, and Tombstone all appear to be in playable state.

You may have Tombstone, my friend.

Here's a link to the tracking thread.

And Nuclear Winter/Red Oktober

We will, as GG said, take a bit of a break first though.

I'm ready for a new one too but I think we might be the only two players interested...

I suppose I can maybe start one up next week.  Probably going to put off the FF custom 1 until later as I don't feel like trying to figure out how to similar decks I dont' actually have.

I am updating the hero list now.  I was meaning to just remove the additional pictures, but as the creators of this game now have a podcast explaining in detail the lore behind the game (http://theletterspage.libsyn.com/), I couldn't resist updating a few entries along the way.

Should be ready to start soonish.
