Title: FREEDOM FORCE ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE-16th Anniversary?
Post by: daglob on March 26, 2017, 08:09:20 PM
This is to inaugurate the Freedom Force 15th Anniversary Challenge.

There are many possibilities:

Redesign the original Freedom Force or Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich characters. One of my favorite meshes is Yellow Lantern & IPS's Rogue 1960s, so re-do the FF as though they had been active in the 1940s, 1950s, 1970s. 1980s, 1990s, or the present day. If you can figure out a way to fit them into 1930s pulps, go for it (fighting Cthulhu in the 1920s?)! Naitvalis is doing a "corrupted" version of the Freedom Force; why not take a theme and re-do as many of the characters as you can? Science fiction, heroic fantasy, planetary romance, medieval knights, Earth-3, magic universe, DC or Marvel Cinematic Universe, CW-verse, vampire-verse, 2099, 3000 AD... anything you can imagine. Or... what if you had been working for Irrational Games fifteen years ago, how would you have designed the FF characters? What other characters might you have created instead?

Alchemiss E3

You might create an anniversary SFX, like a Freedom Force Rally, or make a "lost" level for either of the two games, or a Danger Room Map, or anything. There is a character called "Freedom Forcer", and little as been done with him... got any ideas? Last 4th of July I did my avatar (and Deadpool) in a Freedom Force themed costume, lets see what yours looks like done up the same way. With the time limit, maybe those who can't skin can get up with those who do, and collaborate on something.

The FF Museum's posting Glitch Girls gender swapped Freedom Force members reminds me that the newer members in FFv3R were never given the same treatment.

Then (as Benton points out) you could do one of the Freedom Force III characters.

Manbot2 3000

As usual, there are few rules:

Post a picture of your work here so we can look at it, or post your work someplace we can get it, and bask in the approval... Even if you don't participate, stop by and comment. If you have ideas, mention them; you may inspire someone else.

Deadline on this one will be June 30th. I'm tempted to make it December 31st, and if I got enough feedback on it, I might yet. This is a special challenge, not like the holiday challenges I usually make, and we ought to do it up big.

Have fun; there is no point in doing this if you don't. Maybe learn a little something too, or try something new. We come around here because of our passion for the game, and our love for the community. We can learn new techniques, learn new skills, learn about each other (and ourselves, I hope). That is a lot of expect, and a lot to receive, from a silly game.

Oh yes, and free booze for DJ.

There was some discussion about the FF III characters, and a few of them have been done. Still, some is not all...

Yes, you were there, but other than the free booze, how would have changed the characters? Heck, I was there, I just couldn't play the game.

Don't need to multitask, have a never seen before skin or two from a mod Tiobe and I were working on a few years back in which we planned to expand the Third Riech/time travel/alt universe idea into the games "modern"/60s time and how it changed the heroes. If I get the chance I'll post one tomorrow. Now back to...free booze...mmm...

Oh, I love this idea. Character redesigns have always been really intriguing to me, and Freedom Force character redesigns... well, it just sounds awesome. All the different things you could do with them-- different eras, Earth 3 dopplegangers, FF3, etc-- sound really really cool.  :D
Also, if there's Earth 3 Freedom Force, I wonder what the Earth 2 versions would be like? It sounds similar to the "what if they were in the 40's" idea, but it does have a few distinctions. After all, some of the Earth 2 DC characters were different people who got their powers in different ways and had different costumes, despite sharing the same superhero names.

Anyway, it just sounds really neat. Though I've tried doing meshes and not really gotten the hang of it, I know I'm capable of doing skins. I'm going to try my hand at doing something before June 30th comes.

Alrighty, here's one of those skins I hinted at..this is Komet:

(http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n131/deathsjester/komet_zpsktc8birt.jpg) (http://s111.photobucket.com/user/deathsjester/media/komet_zpsktc8birt.jpg.html)

Now, Tiobe and my idea for all of this revolved around the cinematic scene where FF comes back from fighting Nuclear WInter in FFvTTR. In that you had them flying over the US and noticing everything had turned Nazi except for Freedom Fortress, right before they do the time travel to the past routine.  Well, for the two of us that was a bit lame and needed fleshing out.  So instead of FF landing at their Freedom Fortress, we envisioned them landing at the Freedom Fortress that fit the Nazi-based idea.  Even more fun, we thought that it would be interesting to have the FF wander into the Fortress and run into Nazi versions of themselves there.  We has this whole idea planned out that instead of creating a time machine in the Fortress that they'd have to create one with a resistance group and such.  Anyways, Komet is the alt universe Nazi Bullet. You'll notice he's wearing pieces of Sky King's outfit with Nazi emblems attaches on it which is intentional.  If you remember, in game Bullet mentions how he always looked up/idolized Sky King and based his original outfit slightly off of Sky King's outfit...well, in our world, Bullet/Komet killed Sky King (who stayed a good guy) and took his outfit for himself.

I reeeally like that skin/skope! The backstory, which is pretty brutal, is pretry darn cool.

Between the Nazi Force, Glob's stuff, and Nait's "Corruption" and "Destinies" lines, I'm loving this!

That skin and two others were created almost eight or nine years ago...I have just been holding on to them because Tiobe was involved in their creations...

Another of those never before seen ones that TIobe and I were working on before Tiobe disappeared...this is Kriegsshiff, the Nazi's Man o' War:

(http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n131/deathsjester/kriegsschiff_zpsbrfhi6bt.jpg) (http://s111.photobucket.com/user/deathsjester/media/kriegsschiff_zpsbrfhi6bt.jpg.html)

As you can tell, he's a high ranking Naval Officer (Kommodore in the Nazi navy).  We hadn't really gotten a story together for him when I did him but we did want to change the gun out for something more like a speargun or such...we were tinkering with him when Tiobe vanished.  Though if memory serves me right, we had planned on Sea Urchin to be part of the resistance for some reason.....had something to do with her and this character's dynamics...but can't remember...

Impressive work with Kriegsshiff, DJ. And I really liked the concept of Sea Urchin as his enemy (she is quite the rebel even is her default version).
Title: Re: FREEDOM FORCE ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE

Thanks for the offer, CB, but it's not really worth it. A combo of Tiobe not being around and only a very small group of characters skinne kind of puts this mod idea into the DOA pile. If I had more skins and ideas worked out, I might've tried to get a modder to work something up but I don't.

Yeah, I agree.  That's a lovely design.  I really like the contrast.  Man O' War looks darn sharp, even if he is a Nazi.  :)
Title: Re: FREEDOM FORCE ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE

These were the last two from the mod that I had done:

(http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n131/deathsjester/herr_mechanish_zpsjgdn69eq.jpg) (http://s111.photobucket.com/user/deathsjester/media/herr_mechanish_zpsjgdn69eq.jpg.html)

This is Herr Mechanish, the alt universe Nazi version of Mr Mechanical.  We had envisioned him as a member of the Todt group which was Hitler's civil engineering and science group.

(http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n131/deathsjester/blitzkrieg-regional%20leader_zpskkqe8n3e.jpg) (http://s111.photobucket.com/user/deathsjester/media/blitzkrieg-regional%20leader_zpskkqe8n3e.jpg.html)

This is how we viewed Blitzkrieg would look like when the FF run across him in the Nazi Freedom Fortress.  We wanted him to lead the Nazi FF instead of Mentor or Minute Man (neither of which existed in this universe...though Frank Stiles exists as an old man in a prison camp...had planned a mission to break him out so the FF could use his knowledge to create the time machine or such) but we also wanted him to be the regional leader of the United States (note the arm band...that is the regional leader band that the Brownshirts wore).

And that is it....

Was looking thru some old notes and ran across some of the loose ideas we had for the mod the above skins were going to be for.

Looks like we had the idea to have Komet appear in Sky King's outfit until the team completed the "Save Bullet" FF mission. After that, he'd appear in a costume like Bullet's to show a change in the time stream. Also, Pinstripe was going to be an Italian Nazi supporter and Law would be the successor to the Belle of Vichy.

Characters such as Quetzi, Green Genie, El Diablo, Order, Black Bird, and a few others were going to be either deceased or unpowered resistance fighters. Sokov and the Red Witch were members of the Resistance. Also looks like we were uncertain about Sea Urchin because I have notes about her being in the Resistance but I also have a Nazi alt version idea of her called Molluske.

The following characters we had come up with their Nazi counterparts names:

Minute Man - Sturmsoldat (wasn't a leader or Frank Stiles)
Ant - das Insekt
Tonbstone - Totenkopf
Man-Bot - das Maschine
Liberty Lad - H-J Held (H-J is short for Hitlerjugend, the kid military)
Eve - Naturemadchen
Alchemiss - die Hexe
Sea Urchin - Molluske?
Microwave - Todestrahl
Iron Ox - Panzerfaust

I've also got the names Partikeltreiber and das Gesetz but I've no idea who their FF equivelents are.

That's all I got folks. If MeshMatters was still around and I remembered my password (I don't), I might have more but this is all I got now.

Grenadier's Punisher with a body transplant from Bearded-In-Lair's Freedom Fighter. I've never been able to get the FF1 version to work, but this looks pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Now DJ's put the bar so high, the rest of us are really gonna have to work.

And the characters Partikeltreiber and das Gesetz are Supercollider and Law.

BG, combine the fact Tiobe disappeared just as we started really fleshing things out, the fact I don't know a lick about modding, and the fact we were going to try and insert the missions into the original game while also changing some of those missions...we probably were biting off more than we could chew to begin with.

Wow, I am really out of practice.

Here is Bullet 2000. After years of using Super Speed provided by Energy X, Bullet has been reduced to a formless, Sentient, Energy, and has been forced to reside in one of Microwave's old Armors. His body no longer as fast as his mind, he has become borderline psychotic as he can no longer outrun the world around him.

This isn't quite an update to the '70s, this is an update of an old character to a modern mesh. Here we have Alchemiss Gren, basically Grenadier's Scarlet Witch with Tommy's Alchemiss hair and a few pieces from other Grenadier meshes.

How would some of the original characters look on a newer mesh? Anyone else want to try their hand?

This isn't quite an update to the '70s, this is an update of an old character to a modern mesh. Here we have Alchemiss Gren, basically Grenadier's Scarlet Witch with Tommy's Alchemiss hair and a few pieces from other Grenadier meshes.

How would some of the original characters look on a newer mesh? Anyone else want to try their hand?

Very cool idea 'Glob. I think I'll try my hand as well.

Not sure I'm happy with him so far, but he's still got quite a ways to go before being finished. I still need to Alpha Enable the Goggles, and try to adjust the Particle Emitters and Streaks to see if they'll show the Black colors, and I'm thinking that the Belt may be a bit wide.

And don't get me started with everything I need to fix on the Skin.  :banghead:

Me too.

Bullet looks GREAT, though.

Do you have a copy of Human Torch Black from FXForce? There may be a copy in your mail box... ;)

And, if it's the way you want to go, I can probably cut the helmet off the original mesh with Blender...

Shoulders were a nightmare but a bit of trial and error got them to a place I was happy with. The emblem is hand-drawn and uses about 6 layers I think. With a few touch ups here and there.

If everyone did an updated Bullet, that would mean that we have more bullets to play with. If ANYONE wants to do a character that has already been done-don't let that stop you. This is for fun, and I like both CB's and Deanjo's Bullets. I would have done him on a VX mesh, if I wasn't working on Disco Alchimiss and Pouchtastic Minuteman. Be like intersecting storm fronts-you aren't stealing someone's thunder, you are both basking in it (to really mix some metaphors).

Not an update persay but I made Sea Urchin on her sea horse as per the graphic that was in the game. Not sure how I'm going to approach the challenge yet. Not 70's though, I'm no good at making designs for that era. Thinking maybe of tackling a FF3 or Ultimate design though.

I believe Bobby69 has an updated Bullet Mesh, and an updated Microwave Mesh. Possibly Mentor as well.

There's also a VX Bullet Hex floating around by Flash_22798.

As for my Bullet Skope pictured above, I kinda went a little bit crazy on it, adding a few things here and there, and adjusting the Skin a bit. I'll try to post an updated pic soon.

New member, probably won't be much involved. Loved this game to death. Recently working on a reskin of a board game to Super Heroes: very much in the Freedom Force mold (I've even used several of their characters). Not skins, just art, but here are some of those heroes I might have created:

CRUSHMORE

Here is the updated evolution of The Bullet. Starting in the 1980's, where his Energy X begins to over power him, through the 2000's where the Energy x has completely devoured his physical form, requiring him to wear a Containment Suit at all times. There are three Skopes, with each Skope having variant Skins (But the Skins still need some touching up).

I've been mulling over a 1970s Minuteman.  I see him taking a few cues from the Spirit of 76.  Keep the tri-corner hat and mask.  Add a cape.  The rest of his costume would be a puffy shirt open to the low chest and a wide collar, a patriotic medallion (not sure exactly what should be on it but it would be powered, probably protective and take the place of his bracers), bell bottom plum smugglers for the pants.  The Minuteman staff would be transparent.  Of course, he would need side burns and maybe a Fu Manchu mustache.

If I can make the time I will take a stab at this mesh.  Trying my hand at 1970s Law and Order currently.

Alright..back in biz for me with the comp so hopefully by the end of the week or next week...depends on how well I get accustomed to the new mouse and keyboard....I'll have the 70s Man-Bot together...

Edit:...or some other character seeing as I can't find all the pieces I had set aside to make M-B for some reason. I'll do something though...

Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting a future version of Man-Bot:

Sometime after the events of  :ffvstr:, Man-Bot gains more control of his powers, allowing him to wear this lighter alternative despite his ever-increasing reserves of energy x.
Credit to Courtnall6 for the beard and the hair (from his Aquaman skins).

Whew! Haven't done a skin in a while. Felt good.

Ouflah, I like it! The beard is an especially cool addition, really gives Manbot a different look.

Daglob that's a really nice design Zulu put together. However it doesn't really bring to mind Minute Man for me. Makes me think more of an adult Liberty Lad ala Nightwing.

Further proof, if needed, that environment shapes us. Here, in the Great White North(tm), I need long hair and a thick beard, for protection against the Cold(tm), man-eating mosquitos and man-eating (our wildlife lacks imagination, alas) bears. In that last case, however, it should be noted that the protection doesn't come from the thickness of the hairy coating, but from being able to pass off as one of their own.

Heh. You know they say there's no way to grow nor stop hair from growing and it's one case were I think that's misinformation to sell a billion dollar industry and the reason was living in the mountains. First off we know for fact hair can stop growing. Pour some acid on your head and see if your hair grows back. But in the mountains my hair grew fast and out of control. Later I thought about and tried an experiment were I rubbed crushed ice on my head daily. Sure enough my hair grew long fast to compensate for the cold. Hence people who saw me a year later could only conclude I must have extensions since it shouldn't be possible to grow hair that fast.

Anyways sorry about my delayed release. Fixing two pcs for people, a printer and a door so my time is a bit consumed. Computress should be done by next weekend.

The staves on Minuteman look fantastic! So nice and clean, and yet, they still look like they could deliver a powerful "THWACK!"

I'm really enjoying the android design for Microwave. Such a good evolution of the character and he's still immediately recognizable.

i see this anniversary thing just now, ha! really nice idea Daglob! i really like many of the characters here, the nazi-verse characters of the Jester are absolutely interesting, also because they suggest the idea that they have fought versus the "Ally troopers" that maybe could have their own heroes...or in this case villains? ;).
Also i like the work of the Daglob on "Bullets", the skins of Windblown, and the minuteman of Ouflah, but again there is so much nice material here.
In regard of my series, "Destinies" and "Corruption" i have already bored this forum here http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=58096.30 but for who want the long story short, basicaly the idea was to create a plot for a possible sequel, a freedom force 3, or a 2.5 mod :),
from one side we have "destinies" characters, the freedom force of the future, i mean their future around the start of the 80's, this are the good guys. On the other side there are the "Corruption" characters, the bad guys, they are from an alternate reality(all is explained better on that aforementioned post...i hope).
So the whole story start when the Destinies guys find themselves trapped in the Corruption reality, they must fight their way out advancing in the regions dominated by the Various "Corrupted heroes"each one has their own tugs and perils. All the characters i have done at this point are already downloadable here, (oh exept the valiant volunteers i think i release them in a pack with all the troopers) http://epimethee.webfactional.com/ff/naitvalis/ i really don't think is necesary i re-post all the pictures.
However i want thank again whoever have show interest in this .

Yeah, Photobucket has decided to do away with free accounts. That is not what they say, but it is what they mean. A lot of people are apparently deciding that the ad revenue on a free account is not worth it. After the way Photobucket has been treating their free accounts the past few months, I don't see any reason to want a paid account. How long before they decide that the lowest-level paid account they offer isn't worth the trouble?

A Photobucket account with 3rd party hosting (so I can post pics) is $40.00 a month, $400.00 a year...

Oh man... Too bad a bunch of pic links in this thread are out. I absolutely love FF redesigns.
I actually was working on a completely revamped FF universe before I stopped skinning forever.
A younger group, Teen Titans-esque. Liberty Lad was the leader. Deja-Vu was a time hopping, wisecracking good guy. Tombstone was electric Ghost Rider/Evel Knievel/Elvis, and Alche-Miss was his pinup witch girlfriend.
I can't remember them all. I ought to dig them up. Oh! The Ant was a psychic queen ant who controlled a ton of other ants to form the body of an ant person that would also turn into a giant ant made up of all the smaller ants.

Anyhow, these are cool! I hope to see more!
And get well soon!

Thanks Ouflah. Funny thing is, the "M" turned out far different from what I had originally wanted. I actually ended up having to improvise a little (A whole Lot). Plus, I wanted the color schemes to match the original concept, but the Green didn't work out, which is why I went with Gray. I still wanted to do something with Green though, which is what you see now.

The picture quality is not great, but any guesses as to who I cast (photoskinned) as FF's curmudgeonly aquatic hero (No, not Connery, though that is who I would cast for an animated movie, if I had my way)?

Huh, I kinda figured Minute Man as a Green Lantern. Definitely agree with the others, though!

I'm kind of unsure what El Diablo or Man-Bot would get. Heck, I'm not even sure what most of the villains would get. Lord Dominion would def get a Yellow Ring, though :P

It seemed like Bullet would be the obvious choice for a Green Lantern, him being a pilot and all. I considered that Minuteman could be a Blue Lantern, but he has a staff; probably the only Indigo Lantern who uses his staff as a weapon...

Man-Bull as a Red Lantern?

El Diablo would get a red ring, Dominion probably an orange, Man-bot...hmm...maybe a blue or perhaps a rare white.

Kind of off subject, since this has nothing to do with Lanterns. But I had made a Rally FX for the Anniversary Challenge quite a while ago, but had never done anything with it. So, on that note, if anyone is interested, it's now available to anyone who is interested.

Though I should mention that it is FFvt3R exclusive.

Didn't JJ do an awesome job on our Forcedroid?  I love the design he came up with.  Simple, but perfectly fitting and pretty much instantly recognizable.  His instincts were right on here.

DG, I LOVE all of those Bullets!  That is a great image, and I also had no idea there were that many versions!  Man, that makes me want to do a multidimensional Bullet story, or a 'Batmen of all nations' type tale.  I can see it now...

What is amazing to me is the  creativity and imagination that the early players had when turning out some of the characters, like Thor, Iron Man, Batwoman, and Power Girl for meshes that were not intended for these characters. They made them work until a dedicated mesh came along.

Beware!!! Ego trip!!! - What's really cool, is actually seeing a few of my own Skins mixed in there. How awesome is that.

A bunch of random civilians and thugs and stuff. Admittedly lots were just recolours and changing the face a bit.

I wasn't really planning to post the FFv3R variants; in a way, any of these will go on the appropriate 3R mesh, and there were so many dedicated meshes by the time 3R premiered that few new skins were done for the built-in FFv3R meshes... Then again, I did post Detourneme's Oconnor/Tombstone scope... I dunno, it would include the version of Marvel's Leader for the Blitzkrieg mesh... Maybe.

I've been hoping to see a little more participation.

Heheh. There are a few other ffv3r reskins, but i guess the community had built up enough to make custom meshes by then. No need to reskin the irrational meshes.  Although the Barbara Eden Green Genie skin was pretty great!

I looked through the built-ins for FFv3R and decided to go ahead and post the reskins for them. Besides Barbara Eden there are the ones by Unkoman (3 at last count), and a couple of others. I was only going to do the heroes, but I find several for the crooks (Timemaster and Blitzkreig, for instance). And this is about celebrating Freedom Force, so I really have no reason not to.

Oh... I once did an unimpressive Subterrestrial recolour.
http://sjhftac.comicgenesis.com/freedom/core.html
It is very boring.

As well as an original skin meant to be a leader of the SubTs, in the vein of Hulk foe Tyrannus.
http://sjhftac.comicgenesis.com/freedom/subterraneo.html
Does that count?

I think I've done a few other really bad skins on some of those meshes. I know I once did a weird Joker on the "Frank Stiles" mesh, but, hopefully, those are all lost to time now.

Oops, I guess there's a Poison Ivy, too.

Forcerpool

Oh yes, and free booze for DJ.

do these meshes exist?

I KNEW there was a Doc Doom around here someplace. The reason Machine Man is in there is because so far as I can remember, it is the only skin done for FFv3R's Nocapeman.

The emitters on MB3K work great. I wish I did know who did him 'cuz I would like to release him.

Not sure if we're going for completeness in skins for the built-in meshes, but I found a few that daglob didn't have included.

Another Atomic Lucy Lane, and I think the boys are Unko's work.

A Firestorm skin and another of the 1880 batch.

1880 mechs

I hadn't gotten to those yet (the rest of Mr. Mechanical/Flamebot), and now I don't have to.   ;) I'm not sure I have the kid reading Mad Magazine...

And I'm pretty sure I have the guy with the Shemp hairstyle. Wonder how I missed him?

You *should* have the Madboy, as well as Sweater boy, as they were both in the first Civilians pack that Unko put out.  It also had the workaholic male civilian, which you had in your montage pic.

And the thug in question is the Uncredible Duke.  I can't remember if that skin lived at EF or FXForce.

Neros, I'd be glad to, but I'm having computer trouble and can't look at the screen for more than a few minutes without getting a headache. I was intending to get some together for Panther Gun as well, but everything on my monitor is twice as wide and half as tall as it's supposed to be and slightly out of focus as well. What I'm thinking of doing is posting them on Mediafire and post a link
here at FR when I do. Probably not in the next few days, but hopefully soon. I'm getting my laptop fixed up to use, but I'll still have to go through the desktop to find the skins.

So, I'm working on this but it's almost half way through the month and I'm going realllly slow. Relearning everything, and the skins aren't up to snuff yet. I haven't done this sort of photoshop work in a long as heck time.
On the other hand, I'm pretty excited about finally getting some of these designs done.
So here's a glance at a not quite finished, redesigned Alchemiss. Tombstone is also on his way. I may or may not do more, but these two are getting released for sure.

It is still my intention to post most of these on Medifire. I just need the time and inclination.

They aren't up yet. The Juggernaut-looking things are by Texas Jack, and may be at one of his Yahoo Groups. The Nazi/Hydra/Red Skull skins are in one of my Yahoo Groups:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/characterobscura2minionsandmisc/

... along with the Spaceman Eyebrow mesh they are on. The two women are by Afghan Ant:

I'll have to check on Speedboy. I had thought that he and a version of Bucky were in those posts.

Unfortunately, nothing on any of the three TexasJack groups that I could find. Oh well. Appreciate the info none the less.

I apologize: the two battlesuits may have been by RedBlackDeath. I've checked his Yahoo Group and they aren't there.

Which ones?

As pictured, most of these were collected from various sources by daglob over several years.  Whether any of them are currently available is another question.  I don't think he ever got the collections up on Mediafire like he wanted to.  Some of the answers to where some are/were are in the posts (some are in Afghan Ant's page on HeroForce, for example -- but you better hurry, it's on catwho's site).

I suggest you narrow down what you're looking for and ask for a few at a time specifically, maybe all on the same mesh per request.  You might get lucky & someone will recognize what you're asking for, and either has it or knows where it is currently.  I've got quite a few of some of these (civilians & thugs, for example), and few or none of others (Eve & Order are ones I've got maybe one or two for).

I'm really after the Corruption versions of freedom force members, the lantern skins for ff characters were pretty tempting, and the Manbot with the floating hands were what really lept out at me, I believe I have the Thorder skin
