Title: Anyone else having collision detection and other issues?
Post by: Tortuga on July 02, 2017, 08:10:04 PM
Hey fizellas and fizelettes,

I picked up FF and FFvstTR on Steam today to show my Tortlings but we've noticed a few buggy issues. Just curious if these are unique to me, or do other people have the same issues.

Playing the tutorial mission, MM doesn't listen very well to my commands -- such as moving to a certain spot.  Instead he ventures waaaaay off the map until I direct him to Smash something.  He also often takes really roundabout ways to get to where he needs to go.  He walks right through rocks and ignores the geometry of the land.

Any ideas?  Tried it on two computers and they both have the same problem.

Ooga booga!

Welcome back, Tortuga!

FF is pretty wonky on newer OS's. If you have Windows 10, the ability to play the game will be severely hampered by the "fist bug", where you'll see a fist on the ground rather than the standard cursor, making it impossible for you to move around effectively. I have yet to figure or find a solution to this problem.

However, FFvtTR works fine, so you can play that one, at least. And there is the FF for FFvtTR mod over at Alex's website that will let you play through the campaign of the first game in FFvtTR, though there will probably be some bugs here or there.

Howdy Tort, and welcome back!  You're doing an important service, introducing the next generation to quality literature!  :D

I'm sorry you've run into these problems, but as Spyder says, FF can be touchy on new operating systems.  To get it working on the Steam version, you might try running the game AND Steam in compatibility mode (98).  I found that made everything work reasonably well.  There's also this list of things to try.:

You can also pick up the GOG version, which I think may work better and would only cost a few dollars.

Looks like you linked to the Post Reply button, Benton :P

Also, the 98 compatibility didn't work for me. I still get the fist bug :/

Huh, yeah, following one of the links said that the GoG version works just fine for Windows 10.

That's great news!

And thanks for the link, Benton!

Yeah, I had to uninstall the Steam version and bought the GOG one instead -- it works great!  Just got to get my muscle memory back now.

Thanks for the tips, folks.
