Hiya folks :) Hope the Freedom Reborn team has been doing well!
Not sure if ya'll have been keeping in touch w/ the COH community, but it's been unveiled earlier this week that a private server has been running for the past 6 years with a select few former players. Now, Leandro (the original dev for the private server) has released the code for public use. The community has been on FIRE. People are excited/happy, frustrated/upset, and everything in between. Everyone's been coming out of the wood work in anticipation that we might ACTUALLY have this game back.
Something big is coming, but everyone is also waiting for NCSoft to make a move here... but how much 'leverage' they have in a situation like this is really anyone's guess.

The junior Tortlings were pretty excited to hear the news this morning. I've got it downloaded but can't Create Game Account -- it keeps hanging up. Can't wait to bring back some old toons and make some new ones!

The server has now been shut down as it seems they got inklings of NCSoft already preparing legal proceedings and the players and people running it are in the process of scattering into the four winds so as not to be sued into oblivion.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Well, it was nice while it lasted. Maybe they'll work it out with NCSoft and we'll have our little playground again.
Lots going on and to be honest --- its all confusing as hell. It appears there are 3, 4 maybe more groups all trying to do something.
Way too many Discord groups causing confusion to be honest.
There appears to be an effort from Tony V to get an official server and in talks with NCSoft.
Then Leandro appears to have his server up once again under a new name, Torchbearer. New server so a new password is required for that.

The game should patch/run normally if you restart Tequila. This server is exactly the same configuration as the one we all experienced and enjoyed over the weekend. We are not the GM's of that server, ours is coming later.
In the meantime theres a group of coders also working on things...
And another group I think also working on things.
It will be interesting to see how things turn out.
Just heard about it - beware the Big Honkin' Sword ™, because the Buj is coming! (as soon as I can figure out how to install it)
News about this is spreading, at least within the tech sector. TechDirt, which covers a variety of issues related to so-called intellectual property, has an article (https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20190424/12554642081/ncsoft-has-great-opportunity-to-be-awesome-human-to-city-heroes-enthusiasts.shtml) on this. Part of their take is that NCSoft has an opportunity to build goodwill by giving the okay for such private fan servers. Since 2012, NCSoft has not been in the CoH business and such servers can hardly be said to cause any direct harm to NCSoft's sales.
