Title: Windows 10
Post by: Tomato on November 23, 2019, 02:23:51 PM
So I just took the plunge and upgraded from Windows 8.1, to Windows 10. Currently going though reinstalling steam and FF (though that probably won't finish until later) figured I'd ask if there's any major things I should know going in as far as getting everything set up again.

These are probably problems for older computers only:

The main problem I have is that it seems every time there is a update more of my old programs quit working. I am running on ancient graphics drivers right now, waiting until I can get a newer computer with a graphics card WX will support. The annoying thing is, it supported it for over a year before it quit. I assume it isn't a problem if you have a card WX supports. It also installs some programs memory resident that do not show up in Task Manager or Process Explorer, because the programmers at Microsoft have decided you "need" these programs for your computering experience (you can't suspend them). I discovered them when they wouldn't close when I shut down the computer, and I looked them up. When they weren't in Task Manager, I wondered if they were viruses; it turned out they weren't. What this means, though, is that whatever amount of memory that it shows you is available, it is lying.
