Title: Voice Compare: Marvel edition
Post by: Tomato on February 14, 2020, 02:45:09 PM
So I'm not gonna complicate this too much: If you saw the DC thread, this is the same sort of thing, just with the Marvel side. Admittedly there's a bit less history here, but with the glut of recent Marvel shows there should be a good mix of voices to pick from. And I feel I should remind everyone that if what you think of when "hearing" the character is the live action actor, go for it.

P.S. Spoiler Tags contain links to various links to a website called Voice Compare, which is my go-to for getting actor names and getting decent voice clips of their work.

Still an interesting idea, 'Mato.  This one is much easier for me than the DC one, as pretty much the ONLY definitive animated version of almost all of these characters seems to me to be the Avengers cartoon.  You know, this one:

What, y'all don't remember that trainwreck?  Ha, of course, I mean Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which is as close to JLU quality, universe-spanning, and definitive animation as Marvel seems likely to get.  They really did do a great job with most of these characters.

:EDIT: Apparently Lou Ferrigno played Hulk in the 90s cartoon.  I change my answer.  That's a beautiful thing.

:EDIT 2: You posted your response while I was working on mine, 'Mato.  I see most of your points, and I think you hit the nail on the head with Black Widow.

So I rewatched the first season of Avengers:EMH after making this thread... and I wanted to add a correction about Vanessa Marshall: While she uses her natural American accent most of the time, she DOES break out the Russian accent (and one that's pretty good as far as I can tell) during some of her scenes, notably the ones where she's infiltrated HYDRA. So, credit where it's due there.

So I wanted to branch out a bit for round two, and dive head-first into a specific franchise... Spider-Man, to be specific. Unlike something like Batman, which has a lot of VA talent and history but would likely be HEAVILY dominated by VAs from the DCAU, even as a hardcore Spectacular fanatic I have to admit there's a bit more of a range in terms of "definitive" given the number of shows, movies, and video games with lots of talent behind them. I also threw in a couple supporting characters.

For this list I'm once again restricting to 10 characters, specifically those with the most VAs according to the Voice Compare Website. That said, final slot was a 3 way tie... and while I know it's going to seem like I'm once again ignoring Kingpin because of my Spectacular series bias, I only didn't go for him over Kraven because the 90s cartoon's VA for Kingpin is SO definitive and I thought Kraven would give more variety.
