2 keyframe questions

Ok, no laughing at me.  My skoping knowledge ranges from 'sucks' to 'really sucks'.

When look at keys and they have names like melee7 and melee7a, I assume if you assign melee7 to a character they will randomly use 7a as well to kinda change things up.  Yes/no?  I wonder because sometimes the extra animations have more/less contacts and that would seem to alter the value of the power.

my second question is specific to male_hunter.  I have been trying to swap keys by renaming them -  like changing melee_x to melee_y etc.  I did this once before with a mesh that had 2 run animations and it worked, but for some reason every time I rename male hunter melee animations, it just goes back to the old one.

Keeping in mind I am a complete fool when it comes to this stuff, any help would be appreciated!

1.Yes, melee and melee_a and melee_b will play randomly, regardless of whether they have the same number of contacts or not, and yes, that can mess with "power costs".
2. No idea what the problem is. Double check all your renaming is all I got.
