Doesn't matter what platform or what year they came out - Also don't put them in any real order like best to last etc... - Just the top 5 in random order will do - Now rack those brains & let's see what kept you up late at night when you know you should get some sleep for work/school the next day

City of Heroes/Villains
Elder Scrolls : Oblivion
Gears of War 2 : Multiplay
Freedom Force vs Third Reich : m25 Watchmode
Fallout 3

Here's mine. You'll notice that some of the titles on the list are ones many of you may have never even heard of, much less played. :P

Final Fantasy VI (Not VII)
Shin Megami Tensei Persona 2
Xenogears
Tales of Legendia
Suikoden II (May change to V once I finish that one.)
The Golden Age; 'A different look at a different era.'

yell0w_lantern

Freedom Force
Adventure
Tunnels of Doom
Ultimate Wizard
Wizball
Yellow Lantern smash!

Mr. Hamrick

let's see...

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Final Fantasy VI (yes 6 not 7 or 8 or any of the others, except the original version of Tactics)

Baseball Stars (on the old 8 bit Nintendo)

WWE No Mercy (as much as I like the Smackdown vs. Raw series, they have yet to surpass that game.  I have a list of reasons why.)

and .... hmm... don't really have a fifth "favorite" but wanting to add DC Universe Online.

Podmark

No real order:

Civilization 2 or 4
Baldur's Gate 2
Knights of the Old Republic
Mass Effect
Super Mario RPG

Might be forgetting something. Also Mario Bros. 3 and Mario Cart Double Dash should really be on there.

It's hard to pick an absolute top 5, but here are a few that stand out.

Freedom Force
Civilization IV
Neverwinter Nights (both I and II)
Galactic Civilizations II
The Urquan Masters (AKA Star Control II)

I'd also like to throw Alpha Centari in there, but I've already go Five.  Well six, but I cheated to make it five.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

gengoro

Freedom Force
Shadow of the Colossus
Need for Speed 3
Bushido Blade 2
Virtua Fighter 2

GhostMachine

Not counting MMOs or more than one game in a series....

Final Fantasy X
Xenosaga Episode I
Mass Effect
Master of Orion II (note: I never played the last MoO, unfortunately)
Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3 FES

(In case it ain't obvious, I prefer RPGs)

Freedom Force would be my #6, btw.

QuoteMaster of Orion II (note: I never played the last MoO, unfortunately)

You mean fortunately.  The game was horrible by all account, fortunately,Gal Civ was made later by a different, more sane company.

Talavar

Planescape: Torment.
Fallout I.
Master of Magic.
Diablo II.
Baldur's Gate II (Though this last one may get hedged out by Mass Effect 2; I'll let you know in a couple of years).

lugaru

Fallout Franchise (2 or 3 depending on the day)
Freedom Force (feels like pandering to the forum but I've spent more hours on that game than any other)
Civilization (In particular 4, my dream would be to help design 5)
Front Mission 2 (super hard rocking mecha rpg)
Silent Hill (classic creeper begging for a remake)

I cant believe that PERSONA 2 is on the list... that is one of my alltime favorite games and barely did not make the list. I always felt like nobody else played it.

Well, now you know you're not the only one.

(You played both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, or just EP? Perfectly understandable if you only played EP, though the JP only FM2 is on your list, so what do I know?) :P
The Golden Age; 'A different look at a different era.'

Its a crime there wasn't a Master of Magic II.

TheMarvell

this is really hard for me to pick just 5, as with each generation I've had different expectations. But overall:

-Legacy of Kain series (Soul Reaver 1 got me into this series which has one of the best stories told in videogames, period.)
-Knights of the Old Republic (with much honorable mention to Mass Effect, and all Bioware games, but KOTOR was my first)
-Curse of Monkey Island (imo, the best point-n-click adventure game of all time)
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Halo

I could probably pick my top 10 games per console, easily. Or at least easier that narrowing it down to top 5 of all time. Some of the older NES and Genesis games would have made my list, but right now I have different criteria.

daerdevil

X-Com: UFO Defense - I could fire this up today and think it's better than most game out there
Fallout 3 - I eat, drink, and breathe this game
Baseball Stars (NES) - glad to see it made Ephemeris and Mr. Hamrick's lists
Civilization 4 -although I probably played more of 2 but sometimes nostalgia isn't everything)
Spiderman 2 - best superhero game I've played but it does get repetitive

That 5th spot could easily have gone to XML, XML2 or MUA (same game to me) Hell, ask me tomorrow and I'll probably say those were the best superhero games ever.

herodad1

freedom force, ff2, baldersgate, icewindale, and populous.

captmorgan72

Dragon Age:Origins
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Force Unleashed
Vampire the Masquerade

detourne_me

Such a difficult question to narrow it down to 5.
So I will organize it by stages in my life....

early teens:
1. X-men 2 for Sega Genesis
2. Spider-man/Venom Maximum Carnage
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Link to the past
5. Road Rash

teens:
1. Goldeneye
2. Shadow of the Empire
3. WCW/nWo World Order
4. Final Fantasy 7
5. Bushido Blade

twenties:
1. Freedom Force/FFVTTR
2. GTA San Andreas
3. Fallout 3
4. Mass Effect
5. XML/MUA

Shogunn2517

Well, I guess this could go by hours of gameplay submitted to said games.  And as much as I can recollect:

5.  Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
4.  Spider-Man 2
3.  WWF: No Mercy(Thanks Mr. Hamm for the reminder)
2.  Shining Force
1.  Freedom Force/Freedom Force vs The Third Reich

JeyNyce

1 - Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD)
2 - Sonic 2 (Genesis)
3 - The Longest Journey (PC)
4 - Mass Effect (PC)
5 - Zillion (Sega Master System)
I don't call for tech support, I AM TECH SUPPORT!
It's the internet, don't take it personal!

chuckles

Final Fantasy Tactics
Icewind Dale 2
GTA San Andreas
Smackdown vs Raw 2009
Freedom Force

rain

CoH/CoV
Starcraft
Diablo2
Halflife2
Centipede

Nothings ever come close to CoH and I doubt Freedom Force would even crack my top ten.
-rain

Every time a Hammyo'ed MoG scrapper falls to an elec snipe in the arena, an angel gets his wings

Marmeille

Hum let's see...

City of Heroes/Villains
Half-Life 2 (and episodes)
Mass Effect
No One Lives Forever (one and two, can't decide)
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2

Sticking with only 5 choices is really hard, I could easily replace one of them (not CoH though hehe) with one of the GTA games or The Longest Journey or even Mass Effect 2 (after I've played it more).

Marmeille is the wisest cat ever, EVER!!!

Not in any specific order:

1. Mario 64
2. Warcraft 2 & 3
3. Halo (all of them)
4. MVP Baseball 2005
5. Grand Theft Auto (all of them)

Dang, I forgot about NOLF.  That was the first FPS that I really enjoyed and got into enough to venture online...I had tried others, but they weren't as fun as NOLF (plus, I would get that nauseous feeling from FPSs...until NOLF).  Still, I'd always preferred third-person games/shooters like Max Payne or Mafia.  Even on the 360, I played most of Fallout 3 with the third-person view turned on.

Same here. 3rd person whenever I can. I get wierd looks when I tell people I play Fallout 3 in 3rd person. :P

My all-time favs...

1- Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Among Thieves.
2- Twisted Metal 2
3- Warcraft III and The Frozen Throne expansion
4- Freedom Force
5- Shinobi

Honorable mentions: Mafia, WCW/nWo World Order, Force Unleashed, Tomb Raider 2, Splinter Cell (all of them), and Resident Evil 2.
