Will anyone with a large amount of created Marvel & DC characters upload them to rapidshare or 4shared or something like that?I need more Marvel & DC characters.(BTW yes,I've search all over for them) Just .zip or .rar your characters folder and upload it..may have to do it in parts.

This request reappears periodically.  Unfortunately, kobelee, the answer is typically, "No," because what you ask raises a host of questions about the content providers' ability to control distribution and provenance of their works.  This means you will need to do your downloading the old-fashioned way.

You can start with the Master Mesh List, perhaps moving on to Tommyboy's site, and then browsing Champions of Freedom and HeroForce.  There is a great deal of content out there which can be Googled easily.  Good luck.

Given the recent trend of skinners doing more and more skopes to accommodate their work, the mesh and skin sections kind of blur and overlap, so some of the skin sites have skopes and some of the mesh sites have skins etc....

If you get the original game at some point, this link will provide you with more or less what you're asking for. I don't know of a similar resource for V3R.

I've been to pretty much everywhere looking for this..if you list it,chances are,I've been there. Why is it so hard to get one of these people with tons of :ffvstr: Marvel And DC characters to .zip or .rar their characters folder and upload it for people?  :banghead:

Outcast

Since there are many versions of famous dc / marvel characters out there, the way i see it, most people here don't want to single out a single mesh or skin for any one character. Out of respect for each and everyone's work out there, they like to leave downloading these stuff, up to each and every individual's own personal preference and taste.

I think downloading your favorite dc / marvel characters would be a good way to start your collection. As you have visited the many fan sites out there, try picking the character mesh/skin you like the most. It would only be a handful at first, but at least you get to play them in the game. Then try adding a little more to this collection as time passes. Take your time and enjoy each mesh and skin you download. And before you know it, you'll have a large collection of them. :)

But it's still true that for the newcomers it's sometimes hard to find what you're looking for...Especially since (i think) the master mesh list is not being updated regularly.
We really should consider having a true database of skins and meshes sorted by character instead of creators.
Like you type "superman" in the searche boxe and bam, you have a list of every mesh with that name and a list of every skin with that name, with links to the creators website mainpage so that you still have to browse to find it (thus making sure you don't just grab your stuff and go, but actually look at the other works).
Yep. That'd be nice. Someone feeling up to this herculean task?

I'll be brief: people who provide content for this game do it out of the goodness of their hearts and the shallow troughs of their free time, and they do it for free (often at personal costs, both quantifiable and unquantifiable).  They also put a great deal of work into maintaining aesthetically pleasing websites where users can download their works.  All that they ask is a little control over where and how their works are re-/distributed.  Believe me when I say that what you ask raises very divisive questions that have brought members of this community to verbal blows in the past.  In addition to what Outcast has posted (which is absolutely true, at the level of individual egos), what I am pointing out are the ethical questions regarding the control artists can reasonably exercise over the game content they have generated.  I could name at least two precedents for this type of mass uploading which have caused major uproars amongst the members of the community.  I think that enough individuals have been burnt by the practice to know better than to do so again.  That's why it's "so hard" to get what you want.  I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you will simply need to accumulate your collection of content over time instead of all at one go.

With that said, if what you are really seeking are particular, hard-to-find meshes or skins, then simply post a request for those items in the Requests forum.  If, on the other hand, you simply cannot be arsed to do some time-consuming downloading (just as time-consuming as it might be to upload what you have requested, incidentally) on your own, then you might need to carry on without additional content.  If you want my advice (and you haven't asked for it), I would suggest that you refrain from reiterating this request, lest you accidentally reopen old wounds.

Actually, someone has already started making one. Well sort of. Cripp12 was attempting to make a master skin list of some kind a few months back. It may not be exactly what you're asking for but i figure a skin list covering more characters than your average master mesh list would be close enough?

It's been a while since he updated us on it's progress though. Last i heard he was still not finished, and his list was already running around 3000 or so.

For the meantime, another alternative to the master mesh list is this whole forum itself and its archives. Take advantage of it's whole library of information gathered overtime and you can't go wrong. Just type a particular mesh/skin using the search box located in the upper right corner of the forum, press enter and look at all the possible threads pertaining to your search request. Chances are it's been requested already and it'll point you in the right direction on where to go download it or at least who to ask to get a copy. If all attempts fail, a simple polite request would be your next best option. You'll be surprised how accommodating people can be here. :)

is pretty much an updated list of fan sites and yahoo groups. While there's only a few active fan sites left, it never hurts to check out them out from time to time. You never know when there will be an update you know.  ;)

Another thing to do: if those fan sites have a links page, check it out. While a lot of the links will be dead, you will be surprised at what is available, like stuff from Zed, Strangefate, Sarcasm-Hime, Dreamerzoid, and other old timers. I have Kiss, The Champions (as in Hero Games), The Big Red crew...

Sadly, Loopy Wolf seems to be offline again, and I guess we lost Liquid Viper when Hometown was shut down.

I really miss Mad Rabbit...

Someplace there is a thread that lists Tommys stuff in his Yahoo groups, and another with Inks stuff, and even I put a list of my skins (which is out of date) at the head of my skins discussion thread.

Files of this size would be very difficult to get hosted. If you are looking for simply a large number of meshes/skins, you could try downloading a few mods. Some are character specific, while others offer more variety.

In order to better help you find what you specifically want, why is it that you only want an already put together collection as opposed to you collecting/installing the meshes and skins individually?

kobelee

Whats wrong with uploading in parts and I could recommend a few places..I'm always around those sites. I don't make them myself cause I don't have that ability.I know "it's easy!" right..

Query, why are you so eager to get a pack of all this content anyway? I've seen you ask for this at least five times over the past 2 months and the answer has always been the same. If you don't want to grab a mod that more or less fits what you want, then you'll just have to pony up like everyone else did and individually download and install what you want. There's not going to be a huge Marvel/DC pack for you to download. It's not going to happen.

pre informed me of this thread to get me to eat some faces, however I'm tired so I'm gonna make this very very simple:

In order to make a pack the likes of which you are talking, you would need permission from every skinner, mesher, skoper, and hexer who has worked on every single skin, mesh, skope and hex ever done for ff. About 90% of those content makers are no longer here to give said permission. Most of those because they got bored, but we've lost some people too.

I'll tell you what though. If you can somehow, miraculously, get permission from every living content maker who has ever worked on ff to release their content in a single pack, I will personally make it for you. The dude you'll want to start with is IPS.

Let me know how THAT conversation works out for you.

I'm just asking for a large group of Marvel & DC Heroes and Villians for playing/battling or whatever. No website so I can promote your stuff as mine,no hidden agenda. I have been everywhere online you can list or think up.I got some characters and a lot of porn spam (Thanks Yahoo Groups!) That's priceless . I thought about directing him there myself.

Kobelee, as has been stated, uploading or hosting other people's work without their permission is a no-no. I don't think that can be made any more clear. Over the last 6+ years of belonging to this community, I've had a few instances of losing all of my Freedom Force data (hard drive crashes, file corruption, etc). Each time this has happened, I've had to scour the internet to download all of the meshes and skins I had previously. This is a tedious process, but we've ALL had to do it and for me, at least, I've discovered new sites, meshes, and skins I didn't visit or have before. It's actually kind of fun in a twisted way.
Now, that being said, if you've been "everywhere online" and/or utilized the links provided in this thread, I don't really see why you still need an upload. Quite frankly, in the ten days since you started this thread, you should have been able to find everything you needed already. Now, there are some obscure meshes/skins out there or ones that aren't hosted anymore. For those, a simple post in the Request forum will probably fill your need.
This is an extremely helpful and encouraging community, but as we are dealing with creativity and artistic license, there are lines that won't (and shouldn't) be crossed.

P.S. Are you looking for completed characters? Because you're still going to need hero files for all the meshes you download in order to make them work as the characters you desire.

That's true, Tiobe, but we are trying to encourage the newbie, and not be too rough on him. He wants to have fun NOW. I understand; I have the same problem with my daughter.

I guess it's a rite of passage thing; we all had to do it so...

But between Tommy's place, his Yahoo groups, Alex's place, The DCU mod, and the Mod Graveyard (not to mention Champions of Freedom and Heroforce), I think you can  get the majority of the characters created since the Silver Age.

Edit:

Are you suggesting that the newbie might not really be a newbie?

I guess I should apologize in advance.

I probably shouldn't be responding to this after having such a crap day, but I am still having trouble understanding why you are SO insistant that it be a singular, huge file. Is it that you have difficulty finding certain characters, is it that you are just being lazy? Either way, The answer is "No", period. This is not going to happen. We try very hard to be respectful of our creators works, and are asking that you show the same repect. Put in some time, put in some effort, go to the request threads if needed, but please try to understand that this request is not going to happen.

Vent finished. To the punching bag I go before I do or say something that I might regret.

After cooling off and re-reading my post, I would like to apologize. I was really hostile, and way out of line. I had no right to let my personal issues affet how I treated someone else, and I am really sorry.

I know "it's easy"...Never mind.

Please use more spaces when you post. Typing the way you do hurts mah brain meatzez.

As far as the "overprotectiveness"... even if everyone said "what the hey" and we could remotely put together a pack like you suggest (Benton's dcug mod comes close, methinks) it still wouldn't make a bit of difference... someone would still need to actually put the whole thing together. Whoever that was would have no better resources or avenues to find this stuff than you do, and would have to have the motivation to do so.

Personally, I don't think redistributing my files exactly like they already are (with appropriate readmes and credits) is a big deal, nor would most people. But it becomes a question of "is it worth the effort?" Personally, I don't use that many skins... oh sure, every so often I'll go out and binge on something (X-men, titans, Batman) but for the most part about all I have on my hd are meshes I plan on using for my projects. It's not really worth it for me to have 9000+ characters I'll never have a use for wasting space on my hd. For those who do, is it really worth taking time to zip it up for the 2 other people who might need it?

If you're looking for more than you have, instead of trying to just ask for everything (and end up getting 20 duplications of what you already have) make a list of what you still need and post that in the requests board.

kobelee, I'm in the same boat, to a degree.

I had an enormous collection of Freedom Force stuff, my computer crashed, and I lost it all ... including all of IPS and Renegade's stuff, which isn't available online anymore. But there is no way for me to replenish my collection aside from going to hundreds of yahoo groups and downloading five-years worth of individual files, then assembling meshes with skins and keyframes, etc. I don't have the time to do that. I'm not slagging off people who have done that (I was one of them), but I seriously don't have the time or inclination to trawl through all those Yahoo Groups again.

Why won't anyone release, say, a Flash content pack, with a variety of skins, FX, and the Rogues? Because the "hows" and "whys" have been endlessley debated on these boards to such a degree that freely available fan-art created for an old computer game is now viewed as serious art. And people still want more and more skins and meshes, so no-one tells prickly creators like Afghan Ant they'd prefer that the content was packed in a more easily downloadable, time-efficent way. Classic internet.

I keep an eye on these boards just in case someone decides to release a skin/mesh pack without the consent of the other community members ... it happened with IPS' stuff. And there was the huge FX pack that got distributed by Electro that everyone downloaded but no-one talked about on the boards, because it would offend people worried about the copyright or intellectual property rights of their little laser beams or fireballs being infringed upon.

And this is why it won't happen. Congrats on showing us all again why certain things won't be done with any sort of blessing. Obviously, you don't have the energy to remake or redo what you've done before, so why should anyone else go through the effort just so your life is easier. Catch 22, huh? And I certainly hope you contributed more to the community than unnecessary sarcasm and a "plan" to do something against someone else's wishes.

I was actually in the same boat. I not only lost a few thousands skins/meshes/fx's (all zip files) by alot of the creators of the community, but I lost nearly all of my own skins and skopes (a whole lot of unreleased stuff) that I probably won't be able to recreate. But this by no means entitles me or any other member of the community to intentially break the rules or disregard a creators wishes.

If you really want all these skins/meshes/fx's, do the work yourself and avoid further conflict with others.
