I think that I must get myself some "Special trousers".

.....and yes, I *will* double post, thankyouverymuch!

I, too, find it bothersome when my underlings lack the will to serve me.  I mean, really, the nerve.  The unmitigated gall!

"Innocent hostages".  I'm not sure I can wait until Monday to see the beatdown that's about to commence.

OH yeah, I was already chuckling in anticipation.   I actually feel sorry for them. What bad luck to run across exactly the two people you don't want to mess with.

Is this the first time we see Jager children?  I find it somewhat amusing that the adults have no apparent problem with them running right into harms way.  Not surprised, but amused.

I'm not too sure any of those panels showed Jager children... Jagers come in all shapes and sizes, and Mamma Gkika has been drawn as one of the taller ones (at least lately).  In comparison with her, the others might just be rather short.  Also, Phil Foglio is not above drawing a panel for dramatic effect and not worrying too much about consistency.

Not, of course, that Jagers would have any problem with Jager children running into harm's way if there are such things as Jager children.

But they explained the origin of the Jagers in a previous volume... Jagermonsters are created by a special potion, the Jagerbrau, which was given to the Heterodynes' most trusted soldiers.  I believe other sources have shown that Jagers can have human descendants.  So I don't think Jager children are likely.

Whether or not you think they are likely, they do, in fact, appear and are identified as such by the other Jagers.  I was surprised too, knowing their origins, but the Jagers in this page are clearly referred to as "keeds" and their appearance backs that up.

In context, I assumed that Gnika was referring to Agatha and Tarvek as the "keeds" (she's looking at them, not down at her feet at the short Jagers) and wondering why they aren't getting out of the path of the Bloater Tanks.  Her own group seemed to be moving to engage the tanks (they're on their way to meet them).  That's how I took it, anyway.  It could be interpreted either way, couldn't it?

Since this is the only instance so far where Jager kids might be appearing, and in the face of what we've already been told about the Jagers, I think I'd tend to wait and see whether they make a reappearance before I'd say they definitely are children.

If they were Jager children, I'd think that Gnika would already know what they were doing since they're with her.  So why would she ask the Jagers around her what they were doing, when it's Agatha and Tarvek's group that she's running into?

Again, Phil Foglio isn't above throwing things in for dramatic effect and not worrying overmuch about consistency, so they could just as easily be Jager children or short Jagers.  I admit either possibility.

Yep, that page is definitely referring to Agatha and co., Cat.

Maybe I ought to look at it a fourth time, because I honestly couldn't see it that way.  Could be right, I suppose.

Thematically, it seemed to me that Foglio was using the short Jagers to make Gnika more prominent while at the same time preserving the idea that she's surrounded by fiendish-looking monsters and that the two groups are meeting in the street.

By herself, she's just a Jager hauling around a big cannon, and the air of menace she'd project wouldn't be as great.  If she were surrounded by equally large Jagers, it would diminish her and her cannon and they'd get more lost in the panel.

By shortening the Jagers around her (and we're assuming they're Jagers and not some other Heterodyne monsters resident in Mechanicsburg), Foglio gets to make Gnika look more menacing and preserves enough real estate in the panel so that her group and Agatha's don't look crowded in.  Granted, they look more like militant imps than Jagers, but they're still monsters.

That's kind of why I assume that they aren't Jager children.  Basically, IMO Foglio "cheated" to get the illustration he wanted.  Mind you, I think he's probably about the best comedic illustrator out there and that nobody's better at what he does.

Re:  the last couple of pages

Is there a comparable shot of what Castle Heterodyne looked like before this past week's strips?  I don't rightly recall some of the towers leaning at odd angles.

There is the shot of the whole town of Mehcanicsburgh 'way back when the heroes were first entering the city just after entering the gate. der Kestle is siting on top of a hill/mountain...  Think it's a double-page spread. At least one tower is laying on the ground, and there is a river or something (The Dyne?) pouring out of the side.

BlueBard

Okay, we get it, Castle Heterodyne is demolishing the Baron's troops.  How many weeks is this gonna take?

'Cause you know the Baron has got to have some surprises left.  And what's going on with Gil and Agatha while all of this is unfolding (slowly)?

If this is a cliffhanger, the guy doing the hanging must be G.I. Jager with a Kung-Fu Grip(TM).

There used to be a "Polygnostic Radio Theater" or something like that you could download an episode or two. This isupposed to be the graphic representation of one of the adventures (I think there were two of them).

BlueBard

Well, we're back to another long, drawn out storyline with no resolution in sight...  If I wasn't so fond of Agatha's character and Foglio's artwork, I'd be tempted to stop following it.

You obvioulsy never had to follow a Marvel comic storyline in the '60s. It was good practice...
