Minuteman's skin not present

I recently bought the Steam version of FFVTTR, installed, and verified the integrity of the files, as always. I don't have any mods installed, and for some reason, any time I open up "Characters" or go in-game, Minuteman's skin is not present. In "Characters" it shows up as a white box with a black X on it. In-game Minuteman shows up as a little pink box of sorts that slides along the ground, occasionally changing to a slightly brighter pink when under a light. Also missing is Generic_hero, or whatever, and with a bit of searching, in data/art/ or whatever that folder is, I found all of the missing characters' meshes and skins, set up like custom characters. For some reason the game isn't recognizing them, though. Any help?
