Hey this question for you more experience players, I love playi9ng with all my custom and characters already installed in my FFVT3R however is there a way i can change something in the setting so instead of just choosing the limit of 4 heroes to take to battle so i can take 5 or even 6 heroes with me? or is the limit just 4 and nothing can change that?
Thanks- Tony

The FFX attributes Summon and Private Army will let you have more player on you side.

I recall asking a similar question before.  Doesn't FFedit or something like it allow you to change the number of playable characters?

do you know if that's only for missions or does it work for rumble room?

I'm not sure.  I never got to put into practice.  I run Linux and can barely run the base game.  The support software is practically useless to me.

The game is hard-coded to only let you have four heroes in the squad on a mission, so you will only ever see four portraits at the bottom of the screen, max.
However, its possible to have Mods which let you switch control with AI controlled "partners", and there is no upper limit to this. Usually it involves clicking on a friendly  AI npc then selecting a custom action to switch to controlling them.
So before the mission you pick a max of four, but when the mission starts in addition to the four you control, there are other AI controlled heroes who will fight along side you, who you can swap to control.
I've done this in both my old "avengers special Mod" and my "LSH mod", and there are various other Mods which also do it.
It's all done via python scripting, so unless a mission or Mod has it coded into it, 4 is the max.
