Well we've reached the end of the line for the Post Crisis DC universe, so now it's time for the New 52. We'll go through this in chronological story order, so first is Dick new Robin outfit as shown in various flashbacks:

Oh my gosh...I think I just lost my lunch.

This is just cluttered, and really just overdesigned in general.

This makes Liefield's work look good.

I hate it.

Tomato

It is sliiiightly better than the N52 Nightwing costume you posted... but that's like saying Joker is less of a psychopath than Victor Zsasz. Agree 100% with Cyber's denunciation.

2, it is pretty bad. I mean that belt is just....ugh. Also I really don't like the "R" placement.

2: It really, REALLY does look like something Liefield would create.  I agree with everyone else again.  The belt is definitely stupid looking, and the whole thing is terribly overdone.

So I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I almost like this costume. Every time I see it I notice the elements that I think could make a great modern Robin look...and then of course I notice all unnecessary lines and details that make up most New 52 designs.

I like the arms pretty much as is. Actually I really like the black upper arm between the green shoulder and glove, nice contrast.
The legs are close. I'd get rid or simplify the knee pad and clean up the boots. I can can take it or leave on the wing blades down the leg.

The torso is where all the problems are. The R logo in particular just looks ridiculous. The would need to be changed back to the Dick or TIm style.
It needs a real belt, something similar to Tim's or Damian's costume would work well. That red arrow pointing to the crotch has to go - I can' fathom why the artist thought that was worthwhile.
I'd get rid of the lines on the mid section or at least simplify them. And the shoulder lines I kinda like but I'd probably simplify them as well.

So yeah, I look at this and see squandered potential. So close to being decent, but ruined by silly additions.

So in response to what Pod has said, the more I look at this costume, the more I think it may have some potential.

From the Green of the shoulders down, its not bad, the gloves are kind of growing on me, but where the shoulders are, the Green abruptly stops, I think that maybe if it went in a little more, it could work. Going on the premise that I think the gloves are padded as a defensive measure for when blocking/deflecting a strike, I feel that the boots should match, at least to some degree. Give them the same padding that the gloves have. The knee pad looks like it is there solely for decoration, make it look like an actual knee pad that could serve a functional purpose, and I think that it would work for me. The wing blades down the leg just have to go, they serve no purpose, and are really just an eye sore.

Like pod, I agree that the chest/abdomen area is where the big problems lie. The "R" logo needs to be simplified, but looking at the middle pic, if the logo piece were to be removable, it could be used as a throwing disk/weapon, and would serve a functional purpose. The costume does need a real belt, there's no question about that, the current design is just all around terrible, are those little Yellow/Gold rectangles meant to keep his pants attached to his shirt?

The lines on the midsection kind of look like a "W". Is he Wonder Woman's sidekick now? Get rid of them. As for the Red lines on the shoulder area. Unfortunately, they kind of look a bit different in each pic. Are they pouches, belts/harnesses, or are they just there for a useless decoration? Those need to go as well, let the Green come in a bit more to offset the colors.

Like Pod said, "Squandered potential", just like many of the 90's Image Characters.

I was thinking the same thing actually! It would give the design better balance as well.

I'm pretty sure they're just decoration.
I kind of like them but I'd want to experiment with the area and see how other things work.

This makes Liefield's work look good.

Ouch! I wouldn't go as far as to say that. It's not THAT bad.
