Tell Your Own Marvel Stories
« on: July 13, 2015, 03:08:22 AM »
Howdy guys, I am back to work on a major updated for my Marvel Adventures mod, and I am putting out the call to anyone who would like to tell a Marvel story!  If you'll write an EZScript adventure, (and I promise you, it's quite easy to do) I'll do all the heavy lifting!  I'll have the characters built in, all the pieces in place, and I'll even setup the map, if you aren't up for it.  Below are some guidelines about what types of stories and characters are applicable.

The short version: If you have something in mind that isn't depressingly dark and/or a version of a character I just can't stand, we can talk about it.  If you want to do something in particular, I'm absolutely willing to try to make it work.  Providing it wouldn't give me too much extra work or be wildly different in tone from the heart of my project, I'm happy to find a way to make it fit.

The long version: Basically, I've read a lot of the Marvel books up into the mid 80s.  I've really loved the Silver and Bronze Age stories, and I think by the Bronze Age the characters and universe had matured wonderfully (better than DC, sadly, as they made more mistakes earlier on), without having darkened or lost their wonder and heroism, as they would later.  I think roughly the mid 80s is about where things start to go down hill in more than a few places, at least for my money.  So, the characters from the beginning of the Marvel Universe to the end of the Bronze Age, which we'll mark arbitrarily with 1986, are all fair game.  The time frame for the mod is ROUGHLY (oh-so-roughly) Bronze Age, late 70s.

HOWEVER, while this mod is not nearly as cherry-picked and redesigned as the DCUG (hence, it not being the MUG), I am definitely taking liberties for my own enjoyment and to 'fix' things that bug me.  For example, my X-Men campaign features a massive roster that has probably never all been on the team at the same time.  Jean should really be dead by the time this story takes place, yet she's there because I want to play with all of the X-Men characters I love, including several from the TV show, like Gambit and Rogue, that weren't really part of the team during the halcyon days of Claremont's run which I'm trying to evoke in the mod.

I'm also quite happy to tell stories that aren't 'present day,' so to speak.  I already have an Invaders campaign that takes place during WWII and a Guardians of the Galaxy tale that takes place in the future, after all.  As long as the setting is clear, I've got no problem with folks doing flashback stories or what have you.

Because I'm not as invested in the Marvel U as I am in the DCU, there are less characters that I have really strong opinions about, thus I don't really have a forbidden characters list.  At the moment, however, I don't have everyone in the mod that eventually I might .

Current roster:
  • Pretty much all of the Avengers
  • The X-Men I like (and I'm not likely to add too many others)
  • The core Invaders
  • The original GoG
  • The Imperial Guard
  • The Brotherhood
  • The Squadron Supreme
  • The Zodiac
  • A lot of street level heroes and villains, including Spidey and DD and their villains
  • The Shi'ar, Kree, Skrulls, and Asgardians
  • The Fantastic Four and most of their major villains
  • The Hulk and several of his villains
  • Galactus and his Heralds

I'm open to adding new characters for a story, but utilizing existing ones would also be good.

So, there are a lot of possibilities, and I'm quite flexible.  Ideally, I'd like to see people tell stories about characters and teams for whom I don't really have anything, so something for Adam Warlock or any of the folks I'm neglecting would be great!

I welcome anyone who wants to tell a story about a character they love!  Come on guys!

I'd like to see a Squadron Supreme vs the Champions of Angor mod.
Somewhen around 2004 the Radium Age of Comics began.

Why radium?  Because radium is a metal and comics ages are named for metals.
Also, radium is toxic, but the people who worked with it didn't know that and thought it was great.

nice thread, well there is something that i have in mind , maybe is just a guide-line for a mod, or nothing at all, however this is the fact.
The whole story gravitate around a young man (just a normal guy) wich find himself in short of money and fired from work, now he found "casually" an hydra agent wich offer him to enter the ranks of hydra, so the player obviously dress the role of this guy, and start a "crime life"from the lowest rank of the goon to the highest levels of madame hydra, while in the meantime could be the subject of experimental serums or try another "ultimate weapon".
as the story go on this things happens in order:
1 - the guy with nice equipment and powers from hydra decide to do the classical turn back and become a hero.
2 - meet and team up with one of the super groups and maybe have a possible romance with an heroine.
3 - at the end of the story the guy found himself another time in short of money and without a work.
the mod must have an humorous tone.

Style, for the Marvel Adventures mod, I am limiting it to just Marvel stories, but if someone wants to do something for one of my other projects, that is definitely a possibility as well.

I'd like to see a Squadron Supreme vs the Champions of Angor mod.
Haha!  I had forgotten about the Champions of Angor, Kenn!  Ha, they didn't have quite the staying power of the Squadron, did they?  :)

Well, sort of. They actually came back in the late 80's in Giffen&DeMattais' JLI run, (which is, with JLE, a classic,) but with a bit of a revamp. All of their past history with the Satellite League still happened, but at some point, their entire world was ravaged by counterparts to various Marvel villains: Sabretooth, Magneto, Doctor Octopus, Dormmanu, and Doctor Doom, who together were known as the Enforcers. Things got so bad that the world was destroyed in a ravaging blast of nuclear armageddon, and only a few of the Champions were able to escape to the main DC Earth. One of them(the Thor counterpart,) was killed off later, but it wasn't all bad, as two of them -- Bluejay (counterpart to Hank Pym,) and Silver Sorceress (counterpart to Scarlet Witch) -- joined the Europe branch of the JLI, with the former even becoming leader for a while.
