Thoughts about Yahoo

I get a daily report of actions in my Yahoo Groups. That isn't just the Character Obscura groups, but all my groups.

Recently I checked my groups and made a list in the FF Historical thread of the groups. There were several that did not make it to the list because they were filled with porn, and no FF content was left. Also, I have had some of the stuff in CO go missing lately, for reasons unknown. Now, add to this the fact that in the daily reports I get lists of porn added to each site every day, and I worry about the content in those groups.

I guess what I am doing is suggesting that everyone go through the list of Yahoo Groups and download everything before it is all gone. If you don't want it, burn it to a disk and put it up; someone may want it someday.

I don't know; I guess I'm just mad that all these porn posts must be forcing the Freedom Force content out of the groups. Everyone who posted the stuff there worked hard to create that content.

Are you telling me all the yahoo groupds are being cleared out as we speak?

Cyber Burn

Not "All" Yahoo Groups are being cleared out as we speak, however, there have been issues with Yahoo for quite some time. To be honest, that's why I've started using MediaFire instead of Yahoo. That being said, there are MANY Yahoo Groups that are being spammed with Adult Material, and the Group's Freedom Force Content is disappearing at a near alarming rate. That is why it is being suggested that if you have not already done so, to download anything, and everything Freedom Force related from these Yahoo Groups. Before it's too late.

I've never had any problems with my group once I figured out how to get it set up.  I don't know if that's because of the stricter settings I've got or because I'm so small that I fly under the radar for the spammers.  I would gladly share my group settings if anyone would like to compare to theirs.

Under Group Settings, I've got it set so anyone can join, without approval (because I always disliked waiting for someone else's group).  I've got the Search Results box unchecked (this may be a key factor), as well as non-members being able to post messages.  Obviously Spam filtering is set to On.

Under Access Control, Member can see & post messages, as well as view the Members list.  Photos & Files are set to Limited.  All the rest are off.

Under Moderation, Messages are Moderated for new members.  Photos are Moderated, although I don't think this matters as much with the Photos setting on the previous menu.

To my understanding, this keeps anyone from posting files or photos, and new peeps can't post messages immediately.

Discoking is having trouble with the Yahoo Groups, so I tried out one of mine. It took 15 or so minutes to download anything. I got errormessages saying that the page didn't exist, that I had no internet connection (I did), the page was taking too long to answer, the moon was in the wrong quarter, and the lemmings were on the run. Okay, not the last two, but some other ones that involved error numbers I did't write down.

Maybe it's gremlins.

Cyber Burn

Yeah, I definitely wish there were some better options out there than Yahoo.

it was working just yesterday, I don't understand, I JUST got back into this game and making great strides

A moment of silence for Phantom Stranger's second group.

All the files are gone, the photos have a bunch of porn posted.

And Tommyboy's 4th Yahoo group :(

Okay, here's something weird: I checked all of Tommy's groups, and if you check the post in the Living List, I put a strike through the addresses that had no files... after I had reloaded the files page several times. What happened was I also checked a couple of Character Obscura groups, and #9 was gone. I reloaded the page several times, and lo and behold... the files were back. I tried the same thing on Tommy's groups, and a couple finally loaded the files (although I probably should have checked to see if they could e downloaded). So... more Yahoo weirdness.

I did try Tommy's 4th group, but after a dozen or more "reloads", the files were still gone. I think I'll make the strike through, so the group can still be accessed; maybe someone will be lucky enough to happen to find a day they download.

Later:

Kenn's groups are vacant too. Checked with him and he said he hadn't done anything, so it's Yahoo's fault. Maybe just the interface is messed up.

Maybe...

Just goes to show how little Yahoo cares about security and their customers...

Cyber Burn

Agreed.

You may want to add "Freedomforcemesh6" to the strike through list.

I just tried several groups, and nothing. Could be bad; could be temporary.
