Howdy guys, I'm trying to address a weird problem with  :ffvstr: and my MA mod, where characters would get the pink skin issue, despite the fact that everything is properly .dds.  CB discovered that this could be done by reducing the number of commonly named skins (male_basic, etc) by renaming individual character skins something more unique.  This seems to work, but I've been doing some more to try and get the problem under control.  This involves renaming the skin files themselves and then using Nifskope to edit the mesh so that it points to the right file names.

My question is this, is there a way to edit skin entries on a mesh where it changes all of those of the same name at once?  I feel like I've done that before, but I can't remember how.

As far as I know, that will only happen if the Mesh pieces are linked. So on a regular Mesh (Say Paladin_Gren, for example), if you renamed a Skin File in NifSkope for one of the Mesh pieces attached to "Paladin_Extras.tga", then all of the other pieces attached to "Paladin_Extras.tga" would automatically change as well. But with Skopes, the Mesh pieces aren't normally linked, so this doesn't normally work. This is because Skopers are usually pulling Mesh pieces from multiple Meshes, hence, there is no the link.

I know I kind of rambled, but does this make sense?

You didn't ramble at all.  That made perfect sense.  Thanks CB!

Well darn.  :P

Followup question, does changing the texture line on a mesh from .tga to .dds accomplish anything?

I think it just streamlines the processing. A dds will always be read first in FFVTTR, even if there's a tga of the same name in the same folder.
