Animating textures-What the?
« on: November 17, 2018, 06:08:01 AM »
I seem to have lost this tutorial, and I don't see it at FF Resource. Does someone know where it is?

That is not it, I'm afraid. I know I had it, but my HD crashed awhile back, and apparently it is lost.

AH! I may have found it at The Greylands.

Okay, so it's been too long. I can't get the textures to animate. Would somebody please set a small animation on a mesh for me?

Go to the hex-editting section of the Freedom Archive and look for Tutorial: Conduit's Animated textures...or look in the thread by AA called Animated Textures - there is a direct link to Conduit's thread there. The pics are missing but it's the best tutorial we ever had since losing Valander's tutorial in the great FR chaos storm that ate many older posts...hope that helps.

Edit: would link but am away from an actual computer.

I found the one by White Night (but will check Conduit's). Three tries and no success.

I still can't find it. One problem is that the source texture for the original is nowhere near the editable mesh. I had thought I could kind of "fly blind", and that a lot of the stuff would line up automatically (which it does). Maybe I'll copy a version that has the correct texture reference.

Hmm...been ages since I did animated textures on my own (Zaub's were based off some of DM's work) but I do remember that it was rough going without a plan and stuff set up ahead of time (at least for me). Maybe ask DM, he has more recent experience at it than me...

<- has pickled his brain since doing the animated textures for his version of Rorshach...

Hey, the 9th time is the 3rd third time. So in a way, the 3rd time is still the charm :P

Now what? The effect shows in Nifscope, but not in CTool. Any ideas?

If there's no rush and you're willimg to wait until after Turkey day for me to have time to look at it, send it my way - you know the email - and I'll see what I can gleam. Can't promise I'll find the prob but I'll try.

We found the prob, SA. DG forgot to fill in a spot in the block details - I noticed it after looking at the mesh and let him know.

Thanks, though, SA! Also good to see you back again!

Nice to see you all as well. Not really on fulltime though, not much of anywhere. Life is busy lately. I'll try and devote some quality time here though during the holidays. I hope of course all of you and yours are finding the best of days and if not that it gets there.

Thanks Benton, same to you. Er...it's been a hard year and I have my work cut out for me in the next. Hoping to get a little rest in the holiday season though.
