Title: Hexing works in progress - the versatile Amazon Princess
Post by: Revenant on February 15, 2007, 10:07:30 PM
Here's a preview of the Wonder Woman skin-pack
(based on Vertex's Female_Heels. Credit also goes to Renegade - the lasso from his Vigilante mesh, Tommyboy - the skirt, bracalets and belt from his female_versatile mesh, and Ink for the curly hair and jacket from his X_Sage mesh, and the fullhair from his jean grey mesh.  Thanks a million... Actually, I can't thank you guys enough for making these meshes, and opening 'em up to hexing!)

Justice League Heroes console version, the current comics version and the Golden Age are done.
Also "Toga Party" seen here, also inspired by the console video game:

Simply Gorgeous!  The face is very Linda Carter with some Kerri Russell thrown in.  Nice.  What are you doing with the hair in those meshes, that makes it look so real (see Black Canary too)?

Thanks guys.. for the hair I rely on the refl image alot.  The base skin for hair I use sometimes a solid color (in the case of dark black hair, its full black.  For blond hair I use a dark yellow shade.)  Also for the blond hair on Canary, I did put some hair texture into the base file.  To cut down on file size, you can just make this a 4x4 pixel file of the solid color.

Then the refl layer I'll use actual pictures of hair to start with (found by googling 'blond hair texture'), or just create a texture using the textured  brush in Photoshop.  Or you can just draw a bunch of lines of varying lightness over the base color, and then use the smudge tool to soften and blur it so it looks more real.  Another great tool if you have Photoshop is the plugin filter called Fur, from Eye Candy.  It lets you specify the length, density, curliness and lighting effect, producing some realistic looking hair.  You can use it to make anything from flowing locks, to animal fur and stubble.  I was lucky enough to get it free from my brother, who runs a computer lab at his college... ;)

The refl layer will tell the computer what areas of the mesh will emit more of the reflected light, so I try to make the prominient parts of the hair lighter in the refl file if possible.  Some hair meshes are really hard to skin because the mapping gets bizarre.

Oh yeah I forgot.. you really need to replace the lightmap file with something less harsh.  The "crinkly metal" doesn't lend itself well to alot of meshes.  I use something more natural, like a simple gradient.  This is the trick to getting the most out of your reflective surfaces!  Treat the lightmap file as if it is the background in which the character is standing, since it is the image which they will be reflecting.  If the object is something smooth, like hair, the lightmap should also be smooth.

And the rest is trial and error.. my first few attempts were kinda disappointing but I'm starting to get the hang of making blond hair and i'm happy with the way it's looking.  That is of course applying to long hair... For characters with short blond hair, I'm gonna have to study the way C6 has been doing it in his new skins!

Edit:  this weekend I'll put together a tutorial on hair and include some refl files done with the eye candy filter for people to experiment with.

Edit2: Yeah I did use Lynda as a reference, naturtally.. and also looked to Adam Hughes for a reference, hence the thick eyelashes.  The main pic i used was her profile on the DCComics website.

So basically, since wonderful meshers have made so many fantastic parts... you can have pretty much any human form you want via hexing. Is that pretty much what you are trying to show?

As for that hair technique... that's pretty interesting. I might have to try and play around with that some day.

And also, these are all contained in one character folder with one character.nif, one keyframe file and however many skins ya want.  So it'll minimize file size and maximize the versions of the character... Detourne_Me is cranking out some Avengers and X-Men that look really cool, and he found a way to easily randomize the skins (with no coding involved!) so you get a random appearance each mission or rumble room battle.

Here's one of UnkoMan's requests, the evil Frank Quitely Superwoman of the Crime Syndiacate.  She'll be released in the pack along with the Lois Lane Superwoman from All Star Superman.  I'm just finishing the last few skins and setting up some hexed keyframes.  I'm shuffling some of the animations in the VX Energy Manipulator keyframes, and combining them with a few attacks from the Superhuman set (the Area_Spin attack will be there, of course, as well as the flying melee swoop attack)

That's really awesome, Rev. Not to be a creep or anything, but the stretchy fabric across the breasts looks really good.
You pull of these sweet skins and hexes, and make them look so easy.

Hi Revenant,

Fantastic modern Superwoman!! Any chance you would consider making the classic Superwoman?? http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.toymania.com/news/images/0402_owlman_sm.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.toymania.com/news/messages/1771.shtml&h=349&w=231&sz=13&hl=en&start=16&tbnid=P14cYDueN7QsFM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=79&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dowlman%26gbv%3D2%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

Hey SiouxcityDynamo, I'll do a classic Superwoman as well.  She's the one with the lasso that can morph into any weapon eh?  That might require some FX as well!   ;)

Here is the preliminary release of the Wonder Woman hex.  Keyframes version 0.1 are a seperate download, since my PC is slow making keyframe hexes, I'm going to release what I've got so far, and I'll release an updated set soon.  Also 6 skins are included (I accidentally erased my JLH skin and had to redo it, but I like the second one better now.)

Check out the second yahoo group for the download!

EDIT: Oops!  I totally forgot to include a preview pic of the Toga Party skin.  Oh well, i guess it's a hidden bonus skin.  You can see it a few posts up on this thread  :P

dude....wow, just wow...
the JLHeroes skin is absolutley gorgeous, and the other ones are too, but JLHeroes really stands out for me.

im going to be working on a set of keyframes as well, that are specific for her,  but with options for idles and what not... powerhouse, noble, sexy, etc.

Thanks D.M.!  I'm glad you like em.  Feel free to build on the keyframes that I already hexed up!  I was planning on pasting the Special_Teleport from the VX_Female Mage set, since she crosses her bracelets in that pose.  It could make a good block. Maybe the speed can be increased a bit.  Aw heck, why can't I afford 3DSMax??!?

Hey Rev... Downloaded it. Dude, I cannot believe how well the alphaing parts works. And you actually did a few different ropes and unique hair... Man.

The keyframes, unfourtunately, I cannot see. They weren't in the .rar! Just a readme! (Notice how it says 1kb in your yahoo group.)

Looking forward to seeing them though. Meanwhile I'll just stare at these fantastic skins, and the hex. That hair looks so good.

I'm with Unko, I can't BELIEVE how well those alphas work!  These are excellent Rev, but I hope you can fix the KF issue before too long, 'cause I'm dying to try her out in RR ^_^

Hi Revenant,

Great stuff!  I love the Amazon's you have made!!  They are fantastic!

Also, thank you so much for making the classic Super Woman.  I am trying to pull together a full team of the classic CSA to take on the moder CSA, Squadron Supreme, and the Assemblers in the RR.

Thanks again for all you do!

Sioux City Dynamo

The keyframes - They're not available in the group.  Yes, I must have just uploaded the readme but nothing else.  Yes, I am an idiot.   :P

The good news is, when I do upload them they will have advanced to version 0.2!!

I've uploaded preliminary keys of what i've done so far.   please keep in mind these are FAR from complete.  will update as soon as i can, it takes quite a while to port keyframes.
I hope you guys can find good use of them smile please let me know if they dont work in FF,  they don't need to be converted for FFVTTR, just like Rev's wicked hex. plug and play rules.

They work for me, though. I'm checking them in CTool2 now, and they look pretty good.

EDIT: One problem, however... you have this floating ranged sort of animation named "wack" appearing a ton of times.

oh yeah and the wack anims are the keyframews i find to be wiggity-wiggity-wack,   i'll be removing them once i've added all the keyframes i want,  to cut down on size,  plus i dont really see wonder woman throwing seven bolts of lightning or things like that.

Hey captmorgan, detourne has the set on his group, they are turning out great...

Here's the next hex I've been working on.  Unfrotunately I couldn't get the wings to flap during flight, but the clipping isn't bad at all.  I tried the Brute keyframe set and it looked cooler than I thought it would.  I guess in teh JLU, she didn't really need to flap her wings at all. Maybe someday Vertex will make a female with wings (pweeeeaassee!!! if you read this Vertex!)  The skin is complete, based on her newest appearance in Justice League.

Hi Revenant, love your work. I've noticed I cant view your hexed/nifscoped work in ctool or in FF. Is it FFvTR only? This happens with yahoo groups stuff and nifs off the website not marked as FFvTR only. Some othe examples are ares_rev and all the "ultimen" nifs from freedom asylum. I've been away for over a year so if there is some new thing I need to do I'm unaware. Thanks.

Hey seraglio, thanks, yes unfortunately sometimes the only way to get all the nif pieces into the same file version has been to convert them, so some nifs are only usable in FFvs3R.  I try to stay with the first game as much as I can since anybody playing the second game can convert for it.  But as far as we know, you can't convert from the new game to the first one.  Maybe someday it will be a possibility..

Hey DM, those new KF's are great!  I just have a suggestion to make, or perhaps call it an observation.  The active defence and dodge's don't really take advantage of WW's bracelets.  Was this a concious choice, or was it simply a matter of being limited with the tools you were working with?
Title: Re: Hexing works in progress - the versatile Amazon Princess
Post by: detourne_me on March 12, 2007, 08:13:24 PM
just checked to make sure i didnt upload an older version,  and i didn't....
the dodge animations were the best i could find in all of the vx female sets for using bracelets. please let me know if you know of another animation.  as for active defence,  i used that animation because its more of a "battle ready" stance. i really dislike the idea of having a blocking animation for an active defence, since active defe3nces usually take a bit more time than a second long.  so i have her agility up pretty good so she uses the dodge animations a lot, but during her active defence time she can also reflect ranged attacks.
Of course i also use a strong passive defence coupled with a blocking animation for regular bracer use.
