Well, I reckon I should start my thread back up, seeing that the old one was deleted. I've been pretty preoccupied lately, between school, work, a MMORPG that's consuming my life, and so on. But, last night I finally decided to get cracking again, and 3 hours later, I came up with this guy:
Jim Rook- The Nightmaster (Leader of Shadowpact, Obscure DC character)
Not sure who did the mesh, but it works pretty well. I actually did the chainmail myself!
As always, any feedback is always welcome. If you have a gripe, let me know, if you please!
I like it. Nice, strong, vibrant colors.
what mmorpg are u playin?
nice work on the chainmail, hitman.
gripes? i'd like to see a unique face on the skin, rather than a generic one (which it appears to be currently), also lets see some highlights on the boots, cos they look flat, and maybe stronger highlights overall on the blue areas.
I'm not trying to tear your work apart, its good, i'm just offereing my 2 cents...
anyway, i hope to see an update!
Thanks, guys. Yeah, the boots need some highlights. And a little on the belt, now that I'm actually looking at it. The face is actually C6's Male_Grim face, so it's not completely generic. If I had the time to sit down and work on it a lot, I'd like to do a custom face. Oh, there'll definitely be an update, along with some stuff I'm finishing up now...
Oh, and Pluto- the MMO I'm playing is called Dofus. It's freeware, and kinda French, but it's pretty good for the price.
I really don't like dial- up. It's taken me all day to try to upload this pic. Oh, well. Fresh outta Green Lantern #17, the newest inducett into the Sinestro Corps-
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/hitmansam/FR%20Pics/AmonSur.png)
Amon Sur- Son of Abin Sur (former Green Lantern of Earth Sector)
He's still very much a WIP. I still have to add a refl ang glow (maybe?) layer, and I think I'm going to change the mesh from male_basic to Ren's John Stewert, which I think is a little bit of a bigger build.
Feedback is definitely welcome for this one, so don't be shy!
it looks good, im not famiiar with the character, but i think the change to a GL specific mesh has got to be a bonus.
Critiques: the black lines seperating the blue and the black are too heavy (presuming they are lines of seperation and not a graphic element in itself)
definitely need some highlights, esp. on the blue to give it more depth.
And on a personal taste note, i still have trouble looking at a C6 base recolour. try using different bases for different characters and areas of material. HouseQuake set up a base skins yahoo group that has a dozen other bases. evryone overused C6, so maybe try a different one or a combination of a few bases?
(there is a Sinestro Corps ?!)
Yeah, Sinestro's setting up his own "Evil Corps." One "Sinestro" for each sector. They even have a Kilowog- like drill sergent character! Batman was actually approached for the job before this guy, because it's based on how much fear the person has inflicted.
(EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinestro#Sinestro_Corps )
The thick black line is a part of the design. I knew I forgot to do something... (add highlights).
With the C6 base thing- I know it's overused. Again, when I get an ample amount of time, I'm going to start on my own base skin/faces. The thing is, I'm not doing this to be one of the best. You, C6, Rev, AA, TUE, Unko and the rest have that pretty much wrapped up. I'm just making skins of characters that aren't usually done, so they're at least available. A lot of it is for my own use. Besides, this face is a lot how he's drawn in the book.
Thanks for the feedback!
Ha ha, you included me.
I use C6 bases all the time, really... And Paradox a lot. I just muck around and play with them, is all. You could do that a little. Just use the smudge tool, mostly.
As for highlights, I agree a bit more would make this look immediately better. His skin definately needs some more. I can see it a little bit, but it's not enough to be noticeable. The blue could also use it. The black looks pretty good though. Maybe even make it a bit darker, down on the feet. There's also little bits of blue on the lower legs/feet. They look accidental. If they aren't, display them more. If they are... lose them, of course. Add seems to everything. Before I knew about seems, my skins looked really flat. I didn't really understand why. Then I learned, and bam... instant depth. It really does wonders. The logo is also looking very flat. Try some change of colour tone. It might feel weird to do it at first, but when you're finished (and with a refl layer) it ends up being totally sweet. And if not, you can always get rid of it. That's the beauty.
Anyhow, this and the last one are good. They could lead to something great though. Even if you don't want to be the best you'll really start to amaze and impress yourself. Of course, you'll always be upset that other people keep getting better, but that is how it goes.

Hey, man, don't sell yourself short. You do some pretty darn good- looking skins!
Alright, so I've messed around a little more with this guy. Firstly, he's now on Ren's GL_John_Stewert_Modern_plain mesh:
It's a little "beefier", and I really like the animations.
Next, I've tweaked the contrast, darkened the suit, added a _refl and _glow layer, messed with the color a little:
There's really no place I can think of to put seams. However, Nightmaster is definitely getting some. The blue on the feet/legs are the way his "boots" go. Not much I can do there.
Again, critiques are of course welcome!
he really looks more menacing and powerful on that mesh. i lik ethe darkened body suit, make sit look like space leather...stuff...y'know the shiny stuff superheroes use that can't possibly be spandex.
and as for what you said about making the skins mostly for your own use, thats fines. after all thats how I, and a lot of other people here, started out...
Hey Hitman...very nice work. Just one thing though.....shouldn't the blue parts of the costume be more of a pale purple?

that could be deceiving do to the huge amount of yellow refection from the flare of energy surrounding him..
That's what I thought as well, but I am making the refl layer a little more "purple- ish," just to see what it'll look like.
I've got to say... oh no. Don't play with the contrast like that. It just washes out detail. I've got to say I like the first one more than the second. For highlights, it's best to just draw them yourself on a new layer. Just select the lightest blue colour, and go a bit lighter. Draw in some areas you think need lightening. Blur and smudge them to your liking. The same thing for shadows, only go darker instead. That gives it a much deeper effect, adding more detail instead of losing any.
As for seams... any part where the colour changes should be a seam, basically. Certain areas, like his arm bands or where the costume meets the neck, would have a (sometimes thicker) seam on one side and a shadow on the other, to show the overlapping piece. His armbands also have those lines around them, which can be represented by seams, if you want, as well as those... blue pieces on his ankle.
So yeah, I liked the first better. On the other hand, I do like how the facial shadows bring out his features more, and make him look extra crazy and scary.
Hmmm... I like the contrasted face, I think it makes him more menacing, and I like the darkened suit, but just the black parts. I agree, contrasting just washed out detail. Y'know, the more I looked at it, the more I didn't like the detailing on the blue. I'm going to play around with it a bit.
Another WIP, please let me know what you think:
Awesome Andy- Former mindless robot for The Mad Thinker/ Current law clerk for She- Hulk
The sneakers aren't done, and I don't know what to do about the shorts. I actually enjoyed skinning the shirt a lot!
Hmm, he looks good, especially the shirt, but I think that the head is a bit too large. Maybe...half that size.
:EDIT: Nevermind, I just read that he can change the shape of his head, so forget what I said. Great work!
I'd say he looks... awesome.
lol i love that you skinned this character.
Well, I finally finished up one of my WIPs!
Is it an improvement? Please let me know.
(A month and a day later...)
Ok, so I have an original for youalls tonight, please let me know what you think:
Bacchus- Roman God of Wine and Fertility, Head Mascot of Mardi Gras
My thinking was that he's a Thor- Hercules ripoff.
"Bacchus has become bored with the party scene in Hyperborea, and asked Jupiter for temporary leave to hang out on Earth. Jupiter agreed, on the stipulation that he must bind himself to a mortal, and in order to return to Hyperborea, he has to accomplish 10 completely unselfish acts. So, under the guise of Barry Ackerman, Ohio University college student (who are notably for being crazy partiers, I might add), The Mardi Gras Marauder uses his influence over grapevines, pheremones, and the debilitating effects of drunkenness, as well as his God- like stature, to help those in need. Or at least party like it's 999 B.C."
shiny
Hmm. I'd say it's a nice idea but you've gone a bit overboard on the reflect. Becuase of that you've lost the detail of the muscles which is a shame. Nice beard though
yeah i agree with Lunarman on the reflect layer use, but an alternative to simply reducing it, have a look at using a different lightmap pattern, cos the one supplied by Irrational meshes is pretty horrid. look at those used by other skinners and see what different effects you can get. the shininess looks out of place cos of the lightmap's pattern more than the amount of reflect you have chosen to use.
other than that i really like it. what beard did you use for that, it is a skope, right?
Heh heh... lightmaps. I usually use the one with the two ovals. The "crumpled tinfoil" is only for armored characters, right? The thing is, since it's 'Skoped, I did something to the mesh that will only make it read that lightmap. I just have to go in and fix it. I might also tone down the reflect on the costume, now that I'm looking at it, it is a little excessive.
This thing is pratically a Grenadier mesh. I used Male_Heavy_Axe as the base, skoped out the body. Inserted the Male_Heavy_Beard_Hair body and hair. Attached the "cape top" node from Male_Heavy_Cape, along withthe belt, bootcuffs, armbands, and cape. The shield came from Captain America. I resized it to be alittle bigger, and positioned it in the right place. Finally, I found the belt buckle from a Male_Heavy_Helmet_Hair mesh that I had tested earlier to be the body. Almost all of these meshes are Gren's.

This is a great start, I also like the first version more then the second. Great choice of mesh also.
Though the comic version is flat, you may want to give Sur's uni some depth by giving the blue parts of his suit some cast shadows and highlights along the edges, or maybe something with the thick black stripe.
Also the blue seems really saturated. I like the facial expression, the pink tone for his skin, and black suit tone, all great choices and well done.
I really can't wait to see your final version.
I really wanted to do an Amon Sur as well, but you beat me to it. I was wondering if we could do a collaboration on him. And, when DC starts revealing more of the Sinestro Corps maybe you and I could a do a full set or something. Let me know if you're interested.
Well, I guess I didn't catch you message early enough, Murs, but that's cool. Your Sinestro Corps skins are really top notch!!
Anyways, here's my next little project, ready to be critiqued. What is it, you ask? Here's two hints:
1. He's Our Hero.
2. Gonna Take Pollution Down To Zero.
Captain Planet- Earth's Mightest Protector... World's Mightest Mullet
Let me know what youalls think!
You'll pay for this Captain Pla... err... Hitman!
I couldn't believe it when I saw this in the requests, and I can't believe it now that it's staring me in the face. Captain Planet. But there he is. You've done it, and it looks quite nice. The hair is great (I saw the back, too).
Two critiques. I'd say he could use some more shadow on his skin under all the red areas. Also, I'm not sure I'm feeling whatever lightmap you're using here. It looks pretty odd on this skin, paticularly the legs and face. I'd say try a few others out before you release it.
he is looking pretty nice though, good job on the globe!
heh, used to love the show

I still plan on making many more, that was just my first batch. I'm kind of dead on ideas right now, so I'm waitng for new ideas to pop into my head. If you're still interested, PM me.
well i was gonna do one of these, but i dont see how i could improve on that. great work Hitman, you've made one of my favourite childhood characters come to electronic 'life'.
Blast! I was going to do a Captain Planet and his evil-version Captain Pollution. Really great work on this skin but his hair could use some shaping in the front. It looks a little too straight.
Wow. There he is...Cap Planet in all his green mullety glory. Well done skin there! Now that's cheesy goodness!
Well, it was only a matter of time:
Captain Pollution- Evil Bizzaro Surfer Clone
I haven't changed the hairline yet on either of them, but I'm working on that. The little bits of color on his hands are actually particle emitters.
Captain Planet does have a new Reflect layer, which will be included when I release him. Let me know what you think!
hey great colour on the skin, Hitman, but didn't captain pollustion have cysts on his skin from toxins etc.? anyway its a nice skin, now to put an approprite voicepack together for him...
Hey, folks. First off, thanks to everyone who posted comments on these last couple of skins. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. The Cap Planet/Pollution skins are going to be uploaded to my Yahoo group sometime soon, which is a rare thing, because my dial- up doesn't like to work with uploads. So good news there.
Next, I have a skin for youalls to enjoy:
Howard the Duck
Skoped the hat and cigar. Also, this is the first skin I've ever made from scratch, so that's pretty cool. Won't be releasing it yet, though... Beareded and I are trying to make a more diverse set of keyframes for it.
So... what'd ya'll think?
(Oh, and Dr. Volt? If you read this, my next skins will be that old request you made, so keep looking out for that!)
Here's a couple of new ones that I've done (and released- imagine that!):

great job on mr inc & dash.i'm glad you made mr inc. big like in the movie.thanks.cant wait fore the others.are you going to make syndrome and some of the other characters?
Excellent work - epecially on the Mr Incredible skope. Your choice of Ren's E3 Supes as a start point was spot on, and your changes give him the "look" of Pixar's character - without going too far on the skinny legs and huge torso.
I can't wait to see what you do with Elasti-Woman and Violet!!

Just so you all know, a fixed version of Mr. Incredible is on the Yaho Group, ready to be downloaded!

- The Hitman is, essentially, a cross of Captain Atom, Ambush Bug, Deadpool, and Weird Al Yankovic. He's a former human energy being encased in a blue liquid- metal shell. He's a metahuman- for- hire, is self- aware that he's a fictional character, uses his favorite blaster "Lil' Zappy" and owns "Anti- Gravity Socks," which allows him to fly, and is an all- around lunatic.
- Backstory's not on the wiki... yet. I'll get around to it when I'm more motivated.
- The mesh is a combination of Ink's Hans and Gren's Nick_Fury_Gren meshes.
- Rajin... heh...

STYLE: The ULTIMATE Fan!! Skoped out of Irrational's Thug2, Gren's Taskmaster (Hood), Tommy's various _TV (Sleeve Cuffs), and Texas Jack's Male_Shoulder_Holster (Base/Pants). Whaddya think?
I'm not sure about the word on his shirt, it looks like the south of S is blurred too much.
And the shadow on the head, it looks too much.
Looks pretty nice. My only thing would be that the hood doesn't match the rest of the hoodie. But maybe you did that on purpose, don't know.
You guys are right. The writing, although not blurred, was being distorted by the mesh a little, the hood was a totally different color, and the shadow was a little much. Guess I just needed a fresh look at this one. I fixed what I could (now that the hood's darker, it doesn't look like there's a divide between hood and head, but I swear, there is one!) and made a few more changes (blue- er jeans, black tennis shoes) I think it's an improvement.
Unless there's a real blatent problem with this one that I need to fix, I think it's gonna be uploaded to my Yahoo Group tonight. Thanks again, guys!
Looks nice. I was planning on doing one for him too. You evil mind reader. you stole my idea :P
But seriously, it looks good. I'm sure Style will love it.

Just stopping by to say I like your snazzy new outfit. It reminds me of a certain alter-ego of mine. ;)
All the best,

Thanks for the replies, guys. Hey Dave! Thanks! And I'm glad to see you're still enjoying that Prism Pilgrim skin! Cool!
Ok, so I've been really busy, and subsequently haven't had much time in the way of skinning, or, mor accurately, releasing said skins. And thanks in no small part to Dr. Volt's curtious reminders that I still skin, I'm gonna fix that. By next week, I should have these uploaded to my Yahoo Group:
- The Tick (new skope and skin)
- Arthur (skope and skin)
- The Terror (skope and skin)
- Captain Planet (previously previewed)
- Captain Pollution (same as above)
- Howard the Duck (skope and skin)
And, by the end of the month, I'll have these up:
- Dinosaur Neil (still need to finish skin)
- Buzzboy (need to finish)
- a Power Ranger (maybe)
Oh, and I did this little guy:
His name's G- Man. He's a creation of artist Chris Giarrusso. You may know him from his work with the Mini- Marvels comic strip. If not, check it out here (and in the back of various Power Pack comics):

Let me know what you think! Any feedback is good feedback, so don't hold back!
wow! Incredible news!!!
Tick, Arthur, Howard the Duck and more!!!
oh yeah, and Captain Planet!
I'm really looking forward to getting these guys.
Thanks for sticking with it Hitman!

Hey Sam,
I've had some health problems the last six months or so, had to take a break from life as a superhero. I hope you were protecting the innocent in my absence. Thanks again for the skin! Prism Pilgrim is alive and well, and I'm back to work on the comic book for fun. By any chance, do you know of any male basic skins that will serve as my character in civilian clothes? A tee shirt, jacket, or anything plain that I could just change the coloring on occasion. It's hard to keep coming up with plot devices to keep him in his costume forever. Glad to hear you're still alive and well and skinning.
All the best,
Dave
Dave-
Sorry to hear about your health issues, but I'm glad that you're doing better. If by "protecting the innocent" you mean "hanging out at The Waffle Hut," then yeah, I've been protecting the innocent...
Funny thing you've started posting here again- I've been updating some of my older skins now that I, y'know, can skin, and Prism Pilgrim was the first one done. I think I have a pic around here *starts digging through computer*
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/hitmansam/New/ComparativePPilgrimTest1.png)
I added actual goggles and a belt, and updated the skin a little. I also picked a new keyframe set, you'd be suprised how much that changed it. If you like it, I'll upload the new one this week, as well. I might even add some multi- colored lightning FX or maybe an aura.
If you can wait a little bit, I might have what you're looking for, for a basic civilian...
Thanks for the posts, guys. Now... back to work for me!
In my opinion, The Waffle Hut couldn't be in better hands! Re: Prism Pilgrim; I love the belt and the hands look a lot more natural. Did you change the shading? That looks better as well. I'm not sure about the goggles, but I'll reserve judgment until I see the effect animated. So to answer your question, you bet I want the updated version of the skin! I'm doing the comic with a combination of Comic Book Creator and Photo Draw for background and effects. The writing is complete for a three-issue story arc, but the storyboard artwork is incomplete because of Joshua Rhodes' wardrobe issues as I mentioned. Opps, I just exposed PP's secret identity! Oh well, it will keep him on his toes being exposed. As you can probably tell, I'm pretty patent. This character and story has been rolling around my head for along time, thirty years I think. So I can definitely wait a little longer for his civilian duds. Again, I appreciate your generosity in bringing Prism Pilgrim to life. My wife thinks I'm crazy with all this, but she says it's a nice kind of crazy. After all, we all need a brake from real life now and again. Thanks Sam.

I'm not familiar with G-Man...but I like the work on this skin none the less. Nice work!
And OF COURSE, I likes me some Tick (and his villains)...AND am thrilled about Buzzboy still being on the work list!
Hi Sam,
I just wanted to let you know that I found the civilian skins I need for the Prism Pilgrim comic I'm working on. Looking forward to seeing the new version of PP. Thanks again.
Dave
Hey everyone. How are you? Are you sitting down? Really? Good. Because I have some bad news.
I recently bought an external hard drive specifically to store my meshes and such. About two weeks ago, I moved all of my stuff to the HD. Everything seemed fine. Good times were had by all.
This evening, I went to check on a few meshes slated for release (Arthur, Howard the Duck, and Captain Planet), and, low an behold, the .nif files are ALL screwed up. I thought, "OK, no prob, I'll just redo them, no big deal, I have all the parts right here." Well, no I didn't. Every mesh (excluding Male_Suit_V2, oddly enough) are fried. Gone. Finished. Ka- Put. And so on.
I'm so dang frustrated right now, I can barely think. I... I... I don't know what to do. There was so much stuff that I was near completion on, I just can't stand it. I'm about to conceid defeat, delete everything, and start over. I'm not happy about that. Not at all.
So, should I try to post some stuff and hope that it's just my machine, or just scrap it and start over. Your choice. I... I just don't care enough right now.
External hard drives are a tricky beast, best not used as the main storage device for anything. I learned that myself, recently.
It is quite frustrating, though. I would hate to lose all the meshes I've collected over the years, even though most of them lay untouched in my FF1 folder. But with work you were doing it's even worse.
But, hey... at least it's not a kitten.
When something like this happens to me I go to someone who knows more about it than I do. Fortunately I know a a couple of people: my brother and a very good friend of 20 years standing. They can both make computers roll over and their backs and beg to have their bellies rubbed (quite a sight, believe me). Then there is the guy I used to work with who responds with something like "How many pieces is the hard drive in? GREAT! Gather 'em up and bring 'em over. Man! gonna have some fun tonight!"
These people are not unique (no, really), if you think a minute (and you may already have, now that the initial shock has worn off), you probably know someone similar. If not, I bet a friend does.
I'd suggest always back up on CD, but I lost a disk of VX meshes and I don't know what else when the CD went bad-the silver inside the disk turned gray. The VX meshes were, fortunately, readily available.
This is not to say they aren't dead and gone, but just don't give up hope... yet.

Heh, yeah... I'm in IT. That's why I'm so frusterated.
Oh no! That does sound distressing and frustrating! My advice: Don't scrap your original work!! There may well be a way to recover them! It would be a shame to have to go to all that work again. My guess is that you'll figure out some solution. Hang in there!
Good news, everyone! Turns out my copy of NifSkope was corrupted, so I just redownloaded it. Works like a charm. I didn't lose anything afterall!
excellent news hitman!
Huzzah!!!!! Good news indeed!!! Great to hear it!

Sorry for the double- post.
Very nice work there, HM!
Ha ha! He certainly does look heroic... And huuuuuuge!
Whew... dusty...
Howdy all! Just wanted to let the 3 (an exageration, I know. It's probably like... 5 1/2) of you that follow this thread know that new stuffs is on the horizon. I finally got around to re- installing FF on my new compy, and that was enough to inspire me to start skinning again, so be on the lookout for more avatars, obscure heroes, Mexican Luchadors, "Egg- cellent" 1960's Batman TV series villians, and year- old requests to be made. And maybe even uploaded!
Huzzah!
Great news! Really looking forward to some more "hits".
And I'm sure the other 2 guys that follow this forum will be jazzed too!
:P
I'm one of the few and the proud! Sweeeeeeeet!

I would recommending leaving your Yahoo Groups as backups.
You never know, know what I mean?
