Title: Thinking of starting a new SG...
Post by: Alaric on February 20, 2007, 05:13:07 PM
A few days ago, I discovered that Mighty Magician had lost his FR membership. Considering that I was computerless for a while, and have been concentrating on other characters since then, I suppose it's possible that he was over the 30-day limit, or I might have accidentally pressed the "quit SG" button or something. Anyway, I've been meaning to move SkySwift (who these days is my main hero- or will be again, once I'm finished getting V-day stuff on all my Freedom characters...) from FA to FR anyway, so I was thinking- instead of getting MM re-inviting to FR, maybe I could start a new SG. I was thinking maybe a stage performer-themed SG- Mighty Magician is, after all, a stage magician, and such a group could be a kind of opposite number for Circus Infamous, without being quite as obvious as a heroic circus-themed group would be. Members could be actors, comedians, singers, musicians, dancers, etc., etc. I know that starting a new themed group on Freedom won't be easy, so I thought I'd see if there was any interest first.

So, anyone interested?

I don't know of a single person with free slots on Freedom right now... you'd have more luck on Virtue or another server.

Spud is unfortunately correct. 24 slots on freedom and I've managed to fill every single one.

Anyways; I recently dumped all my magic themed toons (and my Arch/Arch Def) into an alt squad "Unbroken Circle." It's kinda half assed, but there's a little base with crafting table and salvage storage. It doesn't quite fit the concept of Mighty Magician (who's quite bit more lighthearted, IIRC) but if you want an invite, just tell me. :)

I have an undedicated slot on Freedom!
... no idea what sort of toon I'd build though...

That's more or less what I expected. Unfortunately, the character in question's on freedom. Also, my Virtue slots are pretty much filled with characters I like too much to delete, but not enough to play... Anyway, from past experience, it isn't easy to get people around here to play on otehr servers...

Eh, I don't know... a regular magic SG seems so... obvious. I was hoping to do something a little different...

Thanks for the offer, though :)

Great! Now, if we can find a couple more people with undedicated slots on Freedom...

Forgive me for jumping in here, but I actually just installed CoH once again and am going to reactivate my account.  I would love to group up with folks for some crime fighting (or mayhem - I'm always up for playing villains).  If memory serves, my toons were all on Victory and Virtue - I have none on Freedom.

Al,

I always have one floater spot and i have been thinking about another defender.  I like the theme idea, but ill have to give it some thought.  Of course i am free on other servers, virtue is full but they are mostly test characters and im not attached to any, but then it sounds like other servers are out since you are using MM.  Hmm like i said itll take some thought.

Mynd,

Our main network of SGs and VGs are on Freedom, and there are plenty to choose from.  I suggest that this is a great opportunity to embrace your alt-itis and make some freedom characters!

You might want to re-post this as a new thread on the General CoH/CoV Discussion Forum (http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?board=40.0). I should point out, though, that by far most of us almost entirely play on Freedom- we even have a SG called Freedom Reborn there (as well as a bunch of other SGs and VGs)... Personally, I've got characters on every server, but I mostly play the Freedom characters, since it's easier to get a good group together.

I've deleted a lot of toons recently; mainly on other servers. I do have a couple of spots open on Freedom though.  I like the theme idea, however, if there's an activity requirement, I'll probably pass.  With work and classes, multiple activity requirements are too hard to maintain.

Absolutely no activity requirement.

How's this; if at least three people post character ideas they're willing to try that fit the theme here, I'll start the group. Of course, that would mean I'd need a group name...

I just came up with this idea but I don't have a name yet.

Bare-bones description:  As a child, character was extremely intelligent but only interest was in leterature and writing; especially poetry.  He/she was successful as a poet and extremely prolific.  In time, he (used as a generic pronoun from here out) wanted to take poetry beyond its contemporary confines.  Supers were always a popular topic but that wasn't enough.  He begain incorporating the most esoteric elements he could find into his work.  He looked beyond both magic and science to where the two were one in the same (as some ancient cultures believed). He delved into the occult and mathematics of the ancient Egyptians, the Aztecs, the Olmecs and many others.  He studied the more recent works of people such as Aleistair Crowley and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.  His poems now dealt with topics beyond anyone who wasn't both an occultist and a theoretical mathematician but they were compelling nonetheless for they still retained the form of a poem; Iambic Pentameter, Haiku, etc.  Nevertheless, those who did his poems walked away feeling that they had almost caught a glimpse of something greater than themselves but was just beyond their understanding.  The poems he wrote now were poems of Power.

This character basically manifests power by either writing or reciting his poetry.

Hm, I'm interested but don't have any ideas off the top of my head.  I'll toss it into the backbrain and let it simmer for a bit . . .

I have often thought of creating a heroic "Circus Infamous", but I'm afraid many of the good ideas are in the CI characters, and asking people to join yet another circus themed group would be asking too much.

Which is part of the point. My idea would involve a somewhat simlar idea (performance-based group) but be sufficiently different that there would be relatively little overlap, concept-wise.

i'd be interested except that my Co* account is currently down, not sure when i'll be able to reactivate it just yet, just started a new job recently and my budget doesn't have much room for game stuff right now. i've got 2 open slots on freedom, but i was kinda saving them for Epic AT charecters, though it's prolly gonna be a long time before i really need to worry about those, my highest lvl charecter is somewher in the low to mid twenties if i remember right, and on the villain side to boot, i'm not sure if i lvl 50 villains would meet the requirment to unlock epics.. i doubt it though since both epics are currently on the hero side. if i did make a charecter, it'd prolly be either illusions or sonic though...

Not that I have an account of my own, but when you mentioned what the SG could be made up of, I automatically thought of the name "Drama Club."

*shrugs* My 2 cents.

And I was thinking of a name that sounded like a talent agency - Limitless Talent or somesuch.

I had been thinking of the Paragon Players, or something, myself... the main problem with both these names is that they seem to focus on the theater/acting/drama aspect of the group. There are many different kinds of stage performers...

A superheroic talent agency... hmm... I like it... Needs a slightly catchier name, though...

No doubt, but it was the best I could come with.  The main problem is that most of the huge talent agencies are named after people (William Morris Agency), which would be even more boring.

I'm thinking (Something) Talent Agency... Ulimited Talent Agency? Not the best, I guess, and it's almost the same thing as Limitless Talent, but I can't come up with anything better right now...

Freedom Talent Agency? Paragon Talent Agency? Statesman Talent Agency?

I'm not really interested in themed groups usually (CI was an exception, I had a character concept that fit the group), but here's some naming ideas...

The Talent Pool
The Casting Couch Avengers
The World Stage
Behind the Scene

I do have a free slot or more on Freedom, but no existing concepts that really fit.  If I think of one, though, I'd be interested in starting a character.

I really don't have any better naming ideas than anyone else...

SuperModels, Inc.
WildCard Entertainment
Opening Act
Super-Troupe
MetaTalent, Inc.
M.E.T.A (Metahuman Entertainment Talent Agency).

I kind of like "The World Stage".

If we're going to name it after someone it should be the founder.  How about The Alaric Awesome's?  :)

And I really like WildCard Entertainment - nice hommage to the books, could readily encompas a wide variety of "acts," sounds super but could also be nothing more than a talent agency . . .

Meanwhile I have an existing toon that could be readily re-orignined to fit the theme and an idea or two for others.

That's one of the ones I'm currently leaning toward.

I started a toon with the express purpose of inclusion in this SG, if you decide to create it.

"Kiki Kix" is a dancer who is also a martial artist with a mysterious sensei.  She is of course a Scrapper.  I am accepting applications for whoever wants to be her mysterious sensei.  ;)

That gives me one more slot to play with on Freedom.  Maybe two to four, if I decide to blow away some other little-used alts.

Seems like there's at least modest interest so I'm going to go ahead and make the toon.

Since there does seem to be some interest in this, I went ahead and created the WildCard Entertainment SG (thanks, BlueBard). PM me in-game if you want to join. I'll probably post an "official anouncement" tonight or tomorrow...

Look for Lionthrope - a former large animal trainer for the movies until he's attacked one night (on a full moon, of course) by one of his lions.  After waking in the hospital he finds that he has gained a lion-like appearance and abilities.
