The devs have launched two new polls on new power sets on the official forums! While the sets that win won't automatically make it into the game (technical or game balance considerations may take priority), this is still a chance for all of us to give some input on the sets we want.

*Sigh* Irony, truly... I am thy wench.
Know who I blame for this??
Griz. Right. I'm going the Spud route. I blame you, mr G!
I got in my votes last night.
For melee offense, I voted for Street Fighting and Energy Blade.
For melee defense, I voted for Force Field and Shield Defense.
Otherwise, some of the choices were pretty cool. I thought about voting for Growth, but I have a feeling that one will be hard for them to implement in an unbuggy fashion. Density Control was also tempting, but I figured I might as well vote on the stuff that will fit the most characters. I won't be disappointed if any of those powersets wind up being implemented.

I went for Street Fighting (didn't realize that I got two votes until after casting my vote in that poll, would have chosen Dual Blades as my second, I think) in the one, and Willpower and Growth in the other (I don't think the tecnical difficulties are a good reason not to vote for something- after all, they're more likely to put the required effort into making a set like that if a lot of people vote for it).
Alaric 7 would have been Street Fighting/ Willpower, if those sets had existed, so I felt somewhat obligated to vote for them...
I'd love to run a Street Fighting/Super Senses Scrapper Speedster. I've never been happy with MA as my only choice for weaponless, non-gimmicky combat for Scrappers.
Is there any kind of official description of what these powersets might look like? I can't change my vote, but I can dream.
I voted for Street Fighting, Psionic Weapons, Force Field, and... Shield? Can't remember the last one.
And no, there are no descriptions. This is the first time they've presented this topic.
I voted for the Electric Hammer and Psionic Weaponry, and Willpower and Growth. Though I will confess to wanting to also vote for the Ball and Chain...
Having a shield would be SOOOO COOOOL.
-MJB
Ball and Chain, Psionic Weaponry
Willpower and Shield Defense
I voted for sets that would require something 'new' (besides maybe Willpower). If they're only going to make 4 sets, I want them to be different than what we have.
Apparently, they've closed the polls. Considering that the forums were down for several hours, and they only started the voting, was it yesterday/ that seems like a very short time to get any kind of useful information.
rather silly for them to ask for feedback, and then give us such a limited time to do it. polls were already down, when i tried to do this today.
They may have been flooded or spamed....

QuoteAs you have probably heard us say before, we are constantly trying to bring you cool stuff in the 'City Of' games! We want to make sure that the stuff we bring you is actually desired by the players as a whole, as opposed to a vocal minority.
To this end we are considering the possibility of two new powersets for the 'City Of' games. The intent is to fill in the two Archetypes with the least number of powers: Tanker primary and Scrapper secondary, which only have 4 choices currently. We want something radically different than the sets we have in the game right now. We have some ideas on what would be cool to include and are looking for your input. In no particular order:
The polls (which are now closed) included the following:
O Street Fighting
O Electric Hammer
O Energy Blade
O Psionic Weaponry
O Dual Blades
O Ball and Chain *
O Shield Fighting *
The second set is a defensive set, used again by Tankers and Scrappers. Again, we have some ideas on what we think is cool enough to include into the game, but would like your input:
The polls (which are now closed) included the following:
O Density Control
O Force Field
O Willpower
O Vibration
O Growth *
O Shield Defense *
* The sets marked with asterisks are ones that are included for completeness sake, but comes with technical risk which may delay implementation.
I'd like to mention that these powersets are NOT for Issue 10, as we are nearly locked down on that issue already. They are for a future Issue and will be included for as many archetypes as it makes sense for. We definitely want to do something that the playerbase as a whole sees as a "good thing" for the game, which is why we are looking for your input!
If you have other ideas for a melee or defensive set that you think would set the world on fire, feel free to post it in the discussion thread . If there is a strong enough groundswell on a particular idea, then it will be considered as well, or may make it into future consideration for other powersets.

I think they should make more than that.
Some of them seem to be relatively uncomplicated and ought to be easy to balance. Street Fighting, The Electric Hammer and the Energy Blade, for example. I'd think Dual Swords wouldn't be that big a deal either, except maybe for the drawing animations. Most of the balance issues would probably come from the defense side.
I'm not sure how they'd build a whole powerset from force fields without intruding on the traditional DefTroller territory or basically re-creating Invuln with different effects. Density Control has some interesting possibilities depending on their concept of what that really means. If it's just getting harder and heavier, then it's not that interesting. If you could turn on something like semi-intangibility that's +defense, +damage resist(smashing/lethal/toxic), +jump (or +fly), +stealth now you're talking. Ditto for Vibration.
I'm pretty meh on the whole Shield Fighting idea. Ball and Chain sounds kinda neat, at least for a Tanker. This jury's out on Growth... depends on the implementation.
My post on the subject:
QuoteOk, here's what I voted for:
Electric Hammer - Face it; This set would be a blast. Sure, it seems a little obvious that its inspired by Thor, but it would do massive damage and include some pretty awesome FX. It can work for other types of characters, too, such as knights, barbarians, ect.
Psionic Weaponry - This set would could potentially combine many of the other listed choices into one set. A different type of weapon composed of psychic energy could be used for each attack, too. This offers a lot of variety. Perhaps with a more basic color scheme (such as a blue or white effect) it could be used to simulate other powers like 'soul energy' or 'hard light'.
Density Control - This set would be VERY interesting. It offers a chance for cool offensive and defensive power buffs that could be combined with any other melee primary. Imagine being able to disrupt electrical-based villains by decreasing your density, or doing a dose of extra damage by increasing your density. Phasing through attacks, much like the power pool set, could be included as a bonus.
Shield Defense - This could be combined with any other primary scrapper ability for a variety of choices. It could even feature an offensive shield attack or two. But really, a shield is a defensive weapon, which makes choosing it as a defensive power more sensible. I wonder if a choice in shield design could be made available, such as ancient, riot control, contemporary steel, or energy designs. Perhaps, though I'm not sure what this entails.
The more I see (or don't see) of powers and such with the free issues...
... the more I wish they just did the paid box instead.

I would totally buy a "New Power Sets/More Slots" expansion pack or booster pack.

Me three.
I'm a big fan of seeing new things being implemented. Definitely like to see more change and variety as opposed to more rehashing of the same ol' same ol'.
So I went with Growth and Shield Defense for the defense sets. I think Growth would just be really cool with some nice implementation. A power that as you get wailed on makes you just beefier and bigger would be awesome. And shield defense because it would mesh well with other available sets. A broadsword and shield to make a knight would be just a natural thing for someone to make. It's kind of stupid you can only have a sword now without a shield, and then if shield combat wins in melee, it'll give you the chance to use the shield for both melee and defense, for all those Cap ripoffs people will make. *goes and tries to park the name Cap'n Amereka*
For melee, I went with dual blades and the ball & chain. Dual blades just because it's always so cool when you see a guy wielding a pair of swords. C'mon, who hasn't dreamed of swinging a pair of swords after watching it done with a couple lightsabres? And then the ball and chain, just because I think it would probably look cool.
Street fighting and Psionic weapons (Psylock FTW!)
Force Fields and Shields. (Although this would require me re rolling a toon . . .)
I think dual swords would be too redundant - already have two swrd sets for scrappers. And we really need a good fist oriented set.
Someone has some common sense...
Polls are back up... and this time for a week.

Finally... hooray for voting at last!
I voted for Psionic Weaponry and Street Fighting on offense, Shields and Density Control on D.
Street Fighting just seems long overdue and broadly applicable to a number of character concepts. If you think about the spectrum of superheroes over time, a great many are portrayed as skilled street fighters rather than martial artists. Psionic Weaponry just makes my head swim with all the possibilities.
Density Control sounds intriguing and open to a variety of defensive needs. And the shield just makes great sense, especially with the two existing sword-based melee sets to pair it with.

Not me. That's what part of my monthly fee is supposed to be going towards. Increase it to $15 even, if you must. Fund it with add-on packs like they already do ("You too can get these exclusive in-game items for the low, low price of $9.95!").
The very minute they try to charge me another $50 bucks just to get extra powersets or AT's, I'm out. Permanently.

Note that these are in fact new polls, that are exactly like the old polls. Which means people who have already voted can in fact do so again.
I've updated the links in the first post with the current polls.
schwing! voted
thanks, I tend to lack time to browse the game forums much, I appreciate the big news and stuff being discussed here

Amending that statement slightly. If the Expansion Pack was something like CoH: The Cosmic Edition and involved an extraplanetary setting where the 50+ folks hung out, that's no skin off my nose. As long as I don't have to feel like I'm obligated to buy it to play the game I'm playing right now only with new stuff.
Or if they came out with a whole new AT that I just had to have, and I could selectively buy that AT for a one time fee of $5-10, I might consider it.

I thought it was $14.95 or something like that. Not that I pay that much attention...
