Title: characters.dat to .hero
Post by: lmalonsof on August 27, 2007, 02:36:03 AM
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there's any way to convert the chars. from characters.dat to .hero files. I'm trying to convert the characters of the DCU mod for FF to ffvtr.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

it's pretty simple. Open the character you want to "convert" in the character creator and either make a copy of him/her or edit him/her and give the file a new name.

I tryed that but... I only have the Character Tool2 (for ffvtr) and I'm not able to change the work folder, so it only works for my default ffvtr folder. I'm trying to download the Character Tool for FF but www.freedomfans.com is down.

Thanks anyway.

Ok, I could change the custom folder so now it should work. Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure Prem meant for you to launch the game(DCU mod) find the character from the built in characters list and click on copy.

Uuuh... well thought. I think you're right, and it's easier than my system.

Thanks.

Impossible to copy characters via character creator: FF doesn't let you to choose built-in characters in the character creator, just custom characters.
I tried with the character tool and nothing.

Any idea?

Umm. . . Yes, it does.  I've done it before, more than once.  All the time in fact.

It does?  :banghead:

Just for checking:

1.- I start the DCU mod with the Icon
2.- I open the character creator
3.- The list is empty, because I have no custom characters
4.- I can't click in the top of the list for changing to custom/multiplayer/allies/foes, there is no clickbox there (In ffvtr there is a clickbox there).

Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, finally this is what I've done:

1.- I copied the characters.dat and powers.dat from the DCU folder ( :ff:) to a copy of my FFX32 ( :ffvstr:) folder (overwriting the existing ones)
2.- I cut and copied in a safe folder all my ffvtr custom characters
3.- From FFEdit, I unchecked as 'only campaign' all the characters that I wanted to export (If not, you only see the extra-multiplayer characters)
4.- Then, I ran the  :ffvstr: from that new folder and copied and rename all the characters as Premonitioner, USAgent and Catwhowalksbyhimself said ()
5.- From the new Alex's EZHero, I selected the meshes for every character (previously converted using nifconvert)
6.- Again from the  :ffvstr: character tool, I selected the right FXs for every power (if you have the last EZFX installed almost all the powers have their right FX). It is possible here to change some attributes and replace some active/passive defenses that with the FFX32 atts. have no much sense.
7.- Back to new Alex's EZHero, I wrote them in the .dat.
8.- Ta daaaa! You're ready to play!

I suppose this procedure could be use to import characters from any mod based on  :ff: to  :ffvstr:

Thanks for your help!
