Post by: Hiroki8 on September 23, 2007, 09:13:40 PM
does anyone know where to find the Havok fx by THOR? I can't seem to download them from FXForce, same goes for the volcano fx by Zapow and are there any Venom symbiote fx? the one in fxforce doesn't seem to work for fft3r

Are you talking about these:

plasma blast (http://www.fxforce.com/RNR/havok_plasma_blast.zip)

havok beam (http://www.fxforce.com/RNR/havok.zip) ?

As for zapow's fx...I don't think it's on the server anymore or it was renamed/removed. What's the problem with the venom fx?

thanks for those  The venom ones show up only as pink boxes..not as symbiote tendrils..

is there a way to fix the venom tendrils?

without looking at the fx myself, the pink box problem usually means textures are missing and said missing textures will show up in ff.log after you view the fx either in game or in character editor.

but I didn't remove any textures..I just put what ever I downloaded into the proper folders..would it be possible to search for these missing textures?

if it is a texture problems, I dunno how easily those other textures will be found. I also dont know which venom fx you're referring to since there's like 2 or 3 that immediately come to mind.

I just reinstalled that fx (redownloaded it from fxforce as well) and it works fine. That means you probably misplaced the textures since the game can't locate them. As it would have mentioned in ff.log.  ;)

I rechecked it and found that it was attached to the venom blast fx which was not working  :banghead: I corrected it and it works now thanks sorry for the bother

I have one more question what do I do if there is a delay after the fx plays and when the attack takes effect..for example I used the AC telekinetic repel but even though I can see it hit the enemy there is a few seconds of delay before they get knocked back

Hi Hiroki8,

Have a look at this thread: http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41113.0 (http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41113.0)
It's likely your problem is simply the fact that the new game uses 3D FX, and the old one used 2D FX.  Using 2D FX is still possible, but has the side-effect of this weird delay.  As most FX out there were made for the original, well...you get the idea.  The thread I linked gives a work-around you can use.

I have another pink fx problem with Renegade's US Agent shield projectile..it turns pink during impact..

I havent looked at that fx but it probably means the end nif is missing textures (or can't find them). The ff.log really is helpful with stuff like this so you might want to try giving it a look through.

RE: fx delays

That usually happens with projectiles w/ a radius and area attacks. Death pretty much explained it but, in simple terms, some fx from ff1 will simply be delayed because they weren't made for ffvttr originally. It's easy to fix with projectiles because you can disable the radius setting when choosing powers, area attacks, not so much without doing some nif switching.

the US Agent fx doesn't have textures that I have to put into the textures folder because it says that its incorporated into the nif files..

the delays are from beam attacks mostly..sorry but I'm really bad at the technical stuff and I'm afraid that I might break something trying it out

odd that beams do that, I havent really come across a beam doing that. Can you give me a link to the usagent fx? I'll test it out and see if I can offer a little more help.

got it from the newly reopened Toybox yesterday http://www.renegadetoybox.com/main.htm its the omega one it includes an fx with the mesh..actually both the classic and the omega one have this problem..

oh and about the delays there are direct attacks that do this as well..should I just change them to projectile attacks would that be easier?
although that would be pretty wierd since its a telekinetic/psychic attack

No, don't change the attacks into projectiles because then the fx will act slightly more weird (but not by much) and the delay will probably still be there because of earlier stated reasons. The only way to fix that problem is by nif-swapping or updating the nifs to ffvttr versions, though you can try converting them.

On the shields, it says the textures are incorporated into the *Core* nifs, not the end nifs, meaning they still need the correct textures (which ren probably forgot to include). You may have to pm him about that.

just sent him a pm thanks

by the way the swapped effect (Panic - replaced with mental damage) it does work for mods right? because I notice that it doesn't hit as often as if its run in a normal rumble room map

yes, state swaps should work in mods. If you're having problems with it, that's a question for the ffx team.  ;)
