I don't know if this has been posted before but somebody's put up the pilot episode of the first X-Men animated series from 1989 on YouTube. As far as I know, only this episode ever made it to TV (although there was a rumour floating around that a couple of other episodes were already in the can). From the looks of it, though, it seems like the same animation studio worked on the 1992 series.

Highlights:
- Nightcrawler hitting on a 14 year-old Kitty Pryde. Creepy!
- Wolverine with an Australian accent (ha ha ha). I love how he says "dingo" instead of "bub".
- Cyclops, in space, wearing an astronaut suit, shooting his optic blast through his helmet's faceplate and somehow not dying from decompression or loss of air. Awesome!
One thing that had me scratching my head, though (not that there weren't any other head-scratchers, but I've got a fairly high tolerance for lapsed logic), and not really explained in the episode, is what the hell was that normal American family (dad in a sportcoat, mom in a mini-skirt, kid with her ragdoll) doing in the deep space observatory in the first place?
Oddly enough, this isn't the earliest instance I remember seeing Wolverine being portrayed as an Australian in an animated show. I remember an episode of the old Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_and_His_Amazing_Friends) show where Spidey, Iceman, and Firestar (one of the few Marvel characters to have been created for TV and made the successful jump to comics publication) enlist the aid of the X-Men to fight the Juggernaut and asking my older brother why Wolverine sounded like the guy from Air Supply.
I remember watching this some years ago and I dare not watch it again, The things that I thought were odd:
- Emma is part of Magneto's crew
- Emma has some sort of psychic arrow attack
- Emma sounds old.
- All the X-men fight the brotherhood one on one...even when their battles are done.
- Yet, I don't remember Storm or Dazzler doing much in the movie at all...
- X-MEN! (X-men) SAVES THE DAY! (Saves the day)!
- Wolverine's Australian voice was just a continuation from Spidey and his amazing friends
- One of the good things that came from this....X-men Arcade.
I actually own this on VHS. One day, I may even get around to porting it over to DVD. It's horrible, to be sure, but it did test the waters that eventually led to a greenlight for the 90's toon, even if it was not in its continuity (or any other continuity).
I remember thinking this was the "Bees Knees" when I first saw it all those years ago...now I'm embarrassed. Kind of like when I watched reruns of the Silver Hawks on Cartoon Network and thought "my god how did i ever like that"....any chance they have Visionaries on Youtube? Might as well go all the way with nostalgia
IIRC, the reason Wolvie sounds Aussie in both the "Spidey & His Amazing Friends" and the "Pryde" episode is that the "Pryde" ep was a spinoff of the Spidey show.

I'm actually surprised nobody's given him the "eh?" thing... either in the older comics or in the cartoons. How is it even possible that they missed on cashing in on that stereotype?

When I think of Wolverine (on the rare occasion), I prefer to think that his healing factor retards his ability to adopt late 20th-century, comedian-promoted slang terminology. ^_^
