He had such a long career:

Wow.  Just heard about this.  He was such an influential actor.  I'm not sure any of us can say we had not seen him act in some movie in our lifetimes.

Wise words, repeated for emphasis.

Of course I'll always remember him as Moses, parting the Red Sea in the Ten Commandments.

My favorite recent Heston performance was his appearance as the Player King in Branagh's "Hamlet".  Heartwarming and unexpected.

RIP, senor...

Oddly enough, I'll always remember him as the narrator for the opening sequence of Disney's Hercules.

This is sad...I loved Planet of the Apes, and Soylent Green, and all those classic sci-fi flicks he did.  He shall be missed.

Yeah, that shows you just how freakin' awesome he was.  Two seconds of screen time and EVERYONE who has seen that movie remembers it.  Heston was an incredible actor and a great man.  I respected him immensely, and I am truly sorry to see him go.  The man made at least three epics.....full epics.....how does one person DO that?

I wouldn't make such a big deal about him.  Sure he parted the sea as Moses.  But he also brought down that commandment about not coveting your neighbor's wife -- and do you know how HOT she is????

And yeah, he blew the lid off that whole "Soylent Green is people thing."   But did he ever take on McDonald's or Burger King???   Do you even know how bad those things are for you?

And don't even talk to me about Planet of the Apes.   The planet FINALLY got rid of the people who are destroying it with greenhouse gas emissions and driving poor innocent animals like the Polar Bear and the Penguin to the brink of exinction because of global warming ... and Charlton Heston longs for the good old days when humans were in control.   Bah!

Sure, he did go green by driving a chariot in Ben-Hur ... but did he ever clean up after those horses?  Nooooo!   Do you know how long it takes to get the stink of horse manure off of your sandals?   I didn't think so!

So sure, wish Chuck luck  in the afterlife ... but wish him even more luck in THIS life.  Because now that he's dead, I expect the vultures on Madison Avenue (a club I used to belong to) to exploit his image to sell everything from classic movie "collections" to cutting edge gadgets that have yet to be invented.

Poor Chuck.   Against your will, your career WILL continue...

Okay, make that four epics.  Planet of the Apes, The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, and The Agony and the Ecstasy.  Incredible.

First let me say that love him or hate him he had a profound impact on cinema and and the notion of celebrity....He was an icon.
That said....Im gonna be the one to say that I don't think he was a great actor.
He was a DRAMATIC actor for sure... but great... eh...

My problem was that he always played Charlton Heston.
People don't remember his characters so much as they remember Charlton Heston in the movie...

I've really got to disagree with you there Goggles, I mean, he doesn't have the virtuosity or range of someone like, Tom Hanks, but the man didn't play the same part in every movie.  In Ben-Hur he seethes with rage, in The Ten Commandments he exudes peace and righteousness, and in Soylent Green he lives and breathes desperation.  He still carries himself with that granite-like self assurance, but I'd hardly say he plays the same part.

Its not so much that he always plays the same part, but he's always Charlton Heston playing a character.

I put him in the same category of John Wayne or Sean Connery...
Rather then becoming a character, the character more becomes a variation of their distinctive persona.
