I was just reading about this today. It's coming. Several movies are rushing through production to try to finish by the end of the month (Including G. I. Joe) and some are suspending filming altogether. (like Transformers 2)
Of course, this also means that Heroes' new season could be cut short. AGAIN.
Coming right on the heels of the writer's strike, people aren't going to like this.

There are at least the options for some productions to obtain SAG waivers to continue production despite the strike. I am learning all about SAG waivers at the moment. *cringe*

Is this about the same issue? If so, did the studios NOT see this coming? Also, you're right Cat, they are going to have a VERY hard time keeping public support if they go through with it.
Similar issue and the studios did see this coming. Go figure.
Basically, the issues for the actors is royalties on internet distribution and DVD sales. Currently, there is nothing written into the contracts for directors, actors, and until recently writers regarding getting royalties on internet distribution.
This is why I am glad I am not union and that Georgia is a "right to work" state. Basically, we are not explicitly bound by the unions when it comes to production work. PLUS, there are now tax incentives to producing here.
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS, FOLKS. COME DO YOUR PRODUCTION IN GA (and employ me while your at it)
There's always CGI and scab voiceovers :) Doesn't help television, though.
Not sure what this means for Michigan's budding film industry. We're an "at-will" employment state, but there are some unions that operate in the state too.
Some of the movies are getting around this by getting the FX work done during the strike and finishing filming afterwards. TV shows won't be so fortunate.

I've been a downriver resident all my life, and I've never heard of any kind of film industry being here.
