Title: Another Problem (maybe the same problem): FFV3R Takes forever to load
Post by: daglob on July 02, 2008, 02:01:18 PM
Originally it took something like 3-4 minutes to load. Not too bad, all things considered. Then it seemed like it was taking a little longer, maybe 5-6 minutes to load. Maybe a month ago, it suddenly got a LOT longer. I recently posted my log file, and if I read it correctly, it took 18 minutes to load. Today, I rebooted the computer (having CFastheap: out of main memory troubles), and according to the log (again, if I'm reading it right) it was still loading after 23 minutes.

Is this right? it seems to spend a lot of time loking for stuff it says it can't find (like keyframes that are right there in the character's folder).

This is the last few lines of the log file, starting at around one minute

I guess this is when I re-booted the machine.

Any idea what is going on? Do I have too many meshes or gremlins or something? It's been a week since I could play this thing.

How many Meshes/Hero files do you have. I know both of these can effect the load time (more-so hero files than anything I think).

2919 meshes and 2307 hero files.

EEGADS (and impressive)!
I think that may be at least PART of the problem.

Try starting with the hero files. Move them to a different directory so they dont get scanned on startup.
I bet that improves load time a bit. Whenever I'm working on something that requires testing in-game and then quitting a lot, I almost always move my hero files cause it makes such a huge difference.

You might also try cutting down the number of meshes to see what effect it has if the hero files idea doesn't yield results.

wow you got alot of characters!!!!!!

ive got around 400 and have started noticing that the game is taking longer to load nowadays, which is why i checked the thread because i was starting to think it was an error or something.

Ive noticed that the longer i spend playing the game the shorter the load times get, maybe due to everything already being scanned or something.

On my computer, around 2000+/- seems to be the limit for hero files.

so is your problem officially fixed? If so, can you list the steps you took so I can link to the post in the list of tutorials thread?

The solution has been found, anyway. I assume that newer, faster computerswith more RAM could have a higher number of hero files before the loading became too slow. The game was also having CFastHeap trouble, and lowering the number of hero files seems to hav fixed that, also.
