Post by: yell0w_lantern on July 09, 2008, 03:48:29 PM
Which villains
http://marvel.com/universe/Category:Villains (http://marvel.com/universe/Category:Villains)
would be in a Marvel version of the Legion of Doom?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_of_Doom_(comics) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_of_Doom_(comics))

I hadn't thought of many of those characters. I'm really interested in the Grey Gargoyle and possibly Mystique.
I can just hear Dr Doom christening the group "Legion of DOOM!"

I'm not that much of a Marvel buff which is part of why I'm asking; are these iconic villains for the heroes or more analogues to the DC LoD members?
I know Sabretooth, Doom, Leader, Mystique Rhino and Electro are very well as certain heroes - Wolverine, FF, Hulk, X-men and Spidey. I don't imagine Magneto allied to anyone non-mutant for very long.

What if you were adding Marvel character to the Legion of Doom (and maybe even cutting out a few of the DC ones) ; who would they be?

I always thought the Marvel equivalent to DC's LOD (or vice-versa) was the Masters of Evil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Masters_of_Evil_members)... being the main baddies of the premiere Marvel superhero team (the Avengers, as opposed to the LOD's rivalry with the JLA).

If we're talking about a team comprised of Marvel analogues (in terms of abilities and/or "position" in the hero/villain hierarchy) of the LOD members, though, here's who I think would be on it (keeping in mind that the general power levels in the Marvel universe are a tad lower than DC's):

- Abomination (sort of a Bizarro analogue)
- Tiger Shark (Black Manta analogue)
- Ultron (Braniac analogue)
- Hydro-Man (closest thing I could think of to Captain Cold)
- Sabretooth (an analogue to Cheetah, I guess)
- Titania (Giganta analogue)
- The Wizard (sort of an analogue to Gorilla Grodd... the multi-powered guy who keeps plotting to take over the leadership of the team)
- Mysterio (Riddler analogue)
- Doctor Doom (the lead baddie... analogue to Lex Luthor... powers are pretty much secondary to his intelligence and ability to lead)
- Mr. Fear (Scarecrow analogue).
- Crimson Dynamo (sort of a Sinestro analogue in a certain sense)
- Mr. Hyde (Solomon Grundy analogue)
- Arcade (Toyman analogue). Other Toyman counterparts could be The Tinkerer and The Fixer.

EDIT: You could probably substitute Dr. Doom with Loki or Kang the Conqueror, or even the Kingpin or the Red Skull (particularly if you want a more "street-level" feel for the team). The Kingpin/Red Skull could also serve as a more grounded version of Braniac.

The Leader (the super-smart Hulk villain) would also be a nice thematic counterpart to Bizarro, especially since Mr. Hyde, Sabretooth, Crimson Dynamo, Tiger-Shark, and Giganta already provide more than enough team brawn.

What about the Squadron Sinister's Dr Spectrum as a Sinestro stand-in?

Sure. I totally forgot about the original villainous Dr. Spectrum from the Squadron Sinister (I think most people these days think of the "hero" Dr. Spectrum... the Green Lantern analogue from the JLA homage Squadron Supreme).

So here's what I'm looking at doing for a portion of a mod: a Legion of Doom homage including characters from Marvel, DC and possibly some enemies of the Archie Comics' Mighty Crusaders.

My Roster is so far:
Lex Luthor
Toyman
Cheetah
Scarecrow
Dr Spectrum
Grey Gargoyle
Electro

Considering:
Brainiac
Giganta
Mr Hyde
Trapster
Count Nefaria
Mystique
Tiger Shark
Abomination

I want them to 60's/70's era and maybe even a little unexpected or fun.
