Title: Games you're looking forward to
Post by: TheMarvell on September 01, 2008, 12:22:42 AM
September has hit, which only means one thing in the gaming world: the fall gaming season has begun, where big AAA titles are released and you're forced to pinch your pennies for all the goodies coming out.

Honestly though, this year seems a bit tame in its releases. Obviously the biggest one is probably Gears of War 2, but I haven't even played the first one yet, and I don't have Xbox Live Gold so the multiplayer isn't really a big deal to me.

that being said, there's basically two big titles coming out that I'm really looking forward to, and one of them isn't really being advertised that much or is well known:

-Rise of the Argonauts
-Fable 2

I've seen previews of Argonauts and it looks awesome. It looks like Kotor meets greek mythology. However, since it's from a relatively small-time developer that hasn't produced much, I might have to see what the reviews say. Still, I'm really anticipating the game.

Fable 2 is a no brainer. The first one was great, and I liked it probably way more since I didn't follow any of the major hype that was behind it. This one sounds even better and it even has 2 player co-op, both offline and online, which I wish more games would do. Should be fun as hell.

I'm also looking forward to the new Prince of Persia, Lego Batman, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Far Cry 2, Banjo-Kazooie 3, and Tomb Raider Underworld, but all of those games aren't necessarily going to be must-buys for me. They're most likely going to be games I can wait for the price to drop or go on sale, with the possible exception of Far Cry 2 (I just have way too many FPS as it is, lol).

In terms of XBLA, I'm stoked for the updated port of Banjo-Kazooie. I've never had an N64, but I did play this at the store, and the N64 had some of the best platformers around back in the day. Really want to pick this one up, but the new one coming out doesn't look the same.

Anyways, what games are you guys looking forward to? Pretty much anything I want is on the Xbox360, but there's one on the PC I'm starting to consider, and that's the WoW expansion pack.

Left 4 dead!
It looks so fun! And I love that theme.

Gta 4 is supposed to be released on pc soon. (I don't got any 'next gen' console)

I'm really curious about the next game from the team 'ico/shadow of the colossus'
The next silent hill, forbidden siren... Fallout 3 of course...

...

That's about it. The rest of the games I want to play are coming out next year, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Street Fighter 4.

Starcraft 2 and possibly Dawn of War 2, as well as NWN2: Storm of Zehir.  Civ4:  Colonization looks cool too.  I'm hoping if it sell well, we may have Civ4:  Alpha Centari next.

No, they haven't.  I just tossed things out there, not looking at release dates, although I believe everything on my list except for that and DAW2 is due before the end of the year.

Yakuza 2 (PS2): It's been almost 2 years since the original came out in Japan and I've been holding out on getting the import in the hopes that an international version would be released and it'll be finally out this month. Loved the first game in the series despite the dialogue being hilariously mangled during the English translation. Thankfully, the sequel will simply have English subtitles instead of the poorly written dubs of the first game.

There's actually quite a few coming soon that look promising, depending on how they sound in the reviews etc, some of these will make my list.  Although, I suppose, technically they're on my list already - lets call this the first draft...

First, shooters.  I need a really good blow-the-heck-out-of-eveything shooter.  Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 both sound very promising and, although I've not played the prequals, I'll probably look to get one of these.  If both turn out to be duds, then I'll have to look to the COD series or Brothers in Arms or something.

Also racing games, they're good.  I played Grid but it's no match for the Toca games by the same company.  The new Motorstorm is sounding promising, but I prefer a track based setting.

Fallout 3 looks very interesting too.  I'm not familiar with the Fallout series either but I'm a big fan of what Bethesda have done with their RPG style games, so hopefully they've worked their magic here too.

Saints Row 2 (another sequal to a game I don't know), sounds rediculous altogether.  This is one I'd need to see a bit more of, but it might be an ideal bit of mindless diversion, for when you want that kind of thing.

Mirrors Edge looks curious - a first person platformer based on parkour.  Could be great or terrible I guess.

Hmmm... that's all I got for now.

Bah!  Take a great tactical RPG, through out everything unique about the series to make it another generic shooter game and claim it' a sequel.  Spinoff, yes, sequel, no.

THIS.
Fallout 1/2 were both really cool. Oblivion bored me after a few hours, so I'm hoping this is a little better, but it's only Fallout in setting.

On my list for 360:
-Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour (I think I'm buying the instruments for RB2, and hope that the GH guitar/game will be sold separately)
-Saints Row 2
-Fallout 3 (FPS' and I don't get along, I'd much prefer a 3rd person shooter, but F3 has the pause/target/shoot/watch thingie which looks nifty)
-GTA 4's downloadable content

And sometime in the distant future, Champions Online.

I'll put Fallout 3 on my list now. I watched some clips on IGN and I gotta say the game has my interests now. I've never played Oblivion, and I'm completely unfamiliar with the original Fallout games. But for some reason, after reading about the game, I had a very strange dream revolving around it.

Needless to say, I think it's a sign, lol. The game looks impressive and I really like the setting.

I feel for the fans not caring for the direction though. While I'm not familiar with the series, I've seen some of my favorite games take the more "popular" route and it's never the same.

I guess the only thing I'll be looking for is Fallout 3, though I'm a bit worried about the slant their taking I'm going to wait to see what Bethseda puts out before condemning them.

updated list:

-Fabel 2
-Far Cry 2
-Rise of the Argonauts (heard a rumor it might be postponed :()
-Fallout 3
-Gears of War 2

I just bought the first Gears game so me and a friend could have a fun co-op gaming night. I knew this game had a lot of hype behind it, and so I figured it was a good choice. Needless to say, we had a fricken blast playing it. The game kicked our asses but instead of being too frustrating it was actually a fun challenge, which I find rare in games these days (most games that exaggerate the difficulty level tend to be cheap and too frustrating to enjoy for me). So once we play the hell out of that game, I'll gladly pick up GoW 2 when the price dips a little. I'm amazed at how much GoW1 is though. It's 2 years old and still $40.

damn, I was hoping I could keep it down to 2 highly wanted games this fall, but the list keeps expanding.
