Title: Shaking off the rust, or trying to - Templar
Post by: Voltimax on September 20, 2008, 04:40:55 PM
Hi all, very long time no see or speak.

I haven't skinned anything in a very long time, but I decided to have a little go again.

Here's an original character I call Templar. Haven't got the character bio down yet, but yes he is a member of the Knights Templar. A super powered one at that.

Don't be too harsh, remember it's been awhile

I haven't found a mesh I'd like as yet, I'll maybe have to skope one. *sigh* something else I need to learn  <_<

Really nice costume design!  Great color combination!  I like the face mask design too.  I'll be interested to hear what his powers will be and overall back story.

Looks really good! Welcome back to the skinning side of things, man!

Now I'm going to try something- to be helpful and give suggestions (I never do this).

The mask could use a little more definition. Looks a little flat to me. Also, I would wipe out the inner ear details, since I doubt his mask is form- fitted to his ears. I would think about putting some shadows on his forehead, since his hair seems to hang over a little. And lastly, you need to do something to break up that dark line where the upper and lower torso meet. I know it's a tough spot, but a little white highlights will go a long way.

Overall, looks great, can't wait to see more!

Thanks for those points hitman, however the inner ear detail isn't detail. It's actually the mesh part that I've unsuccessfully tried to hide. As for mask definition, yes you have a point, detail never was my strong suit and it's something I need to work on. Thats one of the reasons my skins are so simplistic.

Personally, I think it looks fine. But I obviously like simplistic skins. I mean the only base I ever made was a cartoon base.

Anyhow, I think this is a pretty rad design, and you pulled it off nicely. Although I agree about the dark blue line where the torso meets the hips. The shadow there is just slightly darker than any other blues around it. Just cover it up with the lighter blues and it will be seamless.
