Where do I find sounds?

I've just tried installing Renegade's ground_throw fx for his Luke Cage meshes, but I was stumped when I got to this part:

9: Go to the sounds tab and create fx_ground_throw1
11: Use ADD to navigate to sounds/hits/concrete.wav
12: Save
13: Create fx_ground_throw2
14: Use ADD to navigate to sounds/powers/boulder_toss1.wav
15: Save
13: Create fx_ground_throw3
14: Use ADD to navigate to sounds/powers/st_boulder_hit1.wav and st_boulder_hit2.wav
15: Save

I couldn't locate those .wav files anywhere in my FFvTTR files.  Are these a separate download or something?

I think they're included with the game, but they're in the sounds.zip folder.  No need to unzip them, you have the name and location of the folder and file, so just put it in there.

I had the same issue, so I just swapped for some sounds that were close enough:

1) Go to sounds tab in FFedit
2) Look for damage_1_concrete.  Copy and rename it to fx_ground_throw1.  Save
3) Look for fx_subterrestiral_boudler_bash_2.  copy and rename it to fx_ground_throw2
.  Save
4) Look for fx_subterrestiral_boudler_bash_3.  Copy and rename it to fx_ground_throw3.  Save.

For some reason I could not copy and paste the file path into FFedit, so I used this easy solution and it still sounds cool.

Thanks.  I thought I'd remembered reading that .dat files could be renamed as .zip files and then opened normally, but when I tried to do it I got an error message in WinZip that says "Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive."

No, .dat files cannot be renamed in this manner.

You're thinking of .ff folders.  They can be renamed and opened as .zips.

Okay.  But there is no "sounds.zip" file, is there?  Which leads me to my original question: where are those sounds that Renegade's talking about in his instructions?

There is a sounds.ff, which you can rename to sounds.zip.

In any case, you don't need to unzip them, the game does that automatically.  They are already there, you just need to point the game to them in FFEdit.  Since those sounds are used in game, just find them in FFEdit and copy and past as needed.

jmoser,

I'm not sure if Renegade wrote that install for FF1 or if there's just a typo, but there is no file called: concrete.wav.  I unzipped sounds.ff and couldn't find it.  The option I gave you replaces it with dam_concrete1.wav and dam_concrete2.wav.  The other sounds are the same files per Renegade's instructions.

Thanks, joemama.  Frankly my biggest problem right now (well, my biggest FFvTTR problem, which is of course pretty insignificant in the vast scheme of things) is that after following Renegade's instructions I can't even get the FX to show up in the game.  But that's something for the FX forum, I suppose....
