Read about it here.

Persoanlly, I don't use respecs, but I thought people might be interested. For those of you who are newer to the game, this will presumably be a "freespec". These differ from the respecs gained from the respec trials, and the ones given as vet rewards, in a couple of ways; 1) You can only have one "freespec" at a time. If you already have one, and you don't use it before the new one is given, you'll still only have one. They do stack with other kinds of respecs, though. 2) Using a "freespec", you can respec your character at any time, from any location, just by typing /respec (this might be a good way to see if you currently have an unused freespec, in fact). (Of course, for all I know, they may have changed some or all of this since the last time they gave out freespecs...)

I imagine they will also be issuing a special aniversary badge for all characters that are logged in for a certain amount of time around the aniversary 9isn't it usually for a month or something? I can't remember...)

Having one for my Brute would be nice but I just got through doing respec's for my two main characters.

One thing I'd recommend for anybody with character slots-- if there's any build you've been thinking of trying, you might as well roll it out and "absorb" the freespec on as many guys as you can. It's nice to try a character to 10, and then fix all the horrible problems you've created right then.

It never hurts to have a respec in your back pocket. ;)

Raptor

If you don't have any "freespecs" but have "vetspecs" saved up, will you receive the new "freespec"?

I believe that you get one freespec per character per account at the moment they are doled out (Spud's reply seems to imply this, too).  So you'll have that extra one to keep in each of your heroes' pockets until whenever you need or want it.

Is there a length of time you will have to be logged in during the anniversary? If so does anyone know how long?

I have a bunch of characters I wouldn't mind getting respec's for and would love to roll a few to take advantage of this.

As long as the character exists before the freespecs are handed out, the character will get one.

The anniversary badge typically is awarded the moment you log a character in during the alotted time.

Freespecs stack with vetspecs; they just don't stack with other freespecs.

Lighthouse has posted the following additional information:

QuoteTo address some common questions about this coming free respec:

Q:Will having a prior Freespec (from a previous issue) affect it?

A: Yes, it will. You cannot have 2 "Freespecs" on any given character. This Free respec will function just like all previous free respecs have. If you already have a respec, you will need to "burn" your existing one to obtain the new one.

Q: Barring vetspecs, does this mean we could have five banked respecs (Anniversary spec, Freespec, 3 trial respecs?):

A: No, this is a freespec.

Q: Given the big change IOs may make in players powers, many think a freespec will be given at some point with I9.

A:There is no free respec associated with Issue 9.

You can read the original post here.

BlueBard

So my take is, save the freespec until after I9 hits live.

If you're thinking about trying IO's (I sure am) if nothing else you can use the freespec to recoup any standard enhancements you have slotted.

Tortuga

Try to type in /respec.  If you get taken to the respec screen, that means you've got a freespec.  If you feel any need to respec then use your current freespec BEFORE I9 HITS.  It basically gets you 2 freespecs.

Another hint that some still haven't heard of: Always, I repeat, always do respecs at lvls where you can buy fresh enhancements.  At the end of the respec process sell all your enhancements.  You recoup your costs of fresh new enhancements quite nicely.

Yes and no. You can actually have SIX banked respecs: 3x Trial spec, 2x Anniversary spec, and 1x Freespec. Anniversary specs are "earned" specs which must be used with Jack Wolfe in Galaxy, so they stack.

I'm referring to those characters I've already used my old freespec for and won't get another freespec until the Anniversary freespec arrives.

Good hint, by the way... I've got a few characters just on the threshold of being able to use level 20 enhancements, so that will come in handy.

That was actually a quote from Lighthouse (red name), on the official forums. Anniversary respecs are freespecs, not something else. You can, of course, have vet reward respecs, as well, if your account has been active long enough, so in theory you can have up to 7 respecs currently, I think.

captainspud

What's the 7th? Those six are the only ones I'm aware of.

MJB

Would that be 3 vet respecs, 3 anniversary respecs and 1 earned respec?

There are currently three vet reward respecs, given at 9, 21, and 33 months, respectively.

Actually, it's 3 vet respecs, 3 earned respecs, and one freespec- whether from an anniversary or some other reason.

Hmmm...

... what to respec?

I'm pretty cool with what I have.  Maybe I'll go back and take out leadership and pick up ignite or grenade.

Wha'?

NO...

... I still will not pick up a travel power.

I realize this is old, but I think typically all you need to get for a badge that is anniversary/occassion related is to have your account active at the time.

No; you actually need to log that ccharacter in durring the correct month or so. I'm an altaholic, and have many, many characters on all the servers, and only the ones I've actually logged in durring aniversary months have the badges.

ThePrelate

well bugger.. I'm going to be sad if my melted computer cost me a badge
