Who are your favorite heroes?

Verfall

But I'm not talking about your own  :D

After playing with everyone for so long, I'm sure everyone has some other toon that they really liked. Whether it be costume, concept, play style, whatever. So basically, this thread is for people to pick out one character from each of the 5 main hero archetypes, played by one of the various people we play with, and explain why they like that toon.

My Picks:

Tanker -  Direwolf. Why? It's freaking DW for cripes sake! I read all the fiction back in the days when we were all into FF, but to actually see, and team, with the character in a game was almost surreal. Now that he has his trenchcoat it's like watching some sort of mythic being come to life.

Blaster - Rain Maker. Like noone expected me to say that :D When you've defeated nearly everything in the game with a guy, the toon kinda grows on ya. Nevermind the fact I've seen him beat stuff that would have made most blasters smears on the carpet. He was the first 50 of us all, and sure he was a dick, but that was part of his charm, heh.

Defender -  Atomic Saint. Well of course I'd have to pick him, the comedy relief he provided alone was worth teaming with him. Plus he was useful most of the time! Team him with KO and it was a riot. One of these days we should run an "Atomic's Angels" respec.

Controller - White Clover. Ver's saviour essentially, with one of the best concepts of any of us to boot. You can't help but like ephy's little red headed short skirted healer. The only person she couldn't keep alive was Kenny, but than again who could?  :P

Scrapper -  Simian Justice. NRF's own furry mascot, and star of a few comics, you can't help but love the poo flinging furball. Pity TW barely plays him, because he's easily one of the best concepts in the game.

captainspud

Tank - New Jack: If only because of our PvP night, where he accidentally ended up in a PvP match against a dozen +10s and we STILL couldn't kill him. :D
Scrapper - The Fu.
Defender - Top, Camma, Beau: I had no idea what their individual contributions were at the time (I thought Beau was Dark Miasma for, oh, 10 levels?) but together they kept Spud mostly on his feet for 15 levels, which as most of you know is quite an accomplishment. :)
Controller - See, this one's tough for me. I'm bitter that nobody I know ever showed me how awesome Fire Control was, leaving me to randomly discover this fact after 2+ years of play. So, I decline to choose in this category.
Blaster - Ehh. All Blasters are the same to me, so since I've already called out the rest of Simulding above, let's go ahead and give Pyre some props. Process of elimination, doncha know. :P

B A D

Lessee....

Tanker - Momma. Hands down, me and  her gelled .

Scrapper: FUUUU!!!

Controller. Now thats a toughie. I have a whole family to choose from, But I remember some awesome stints with Sea Spectre and the Mighty Magician  as well. Theres also White Clover , who I always seem to wind up with on a TF.

Blaster - Oh, Gods, there are hordes of fun fun. Pyre, CC, Aimee, Gday, Surefyre, Anybody basically who has Saints creedo of "oh noes, fights  over and Im still alive!"

Defender - Beau, Camm,  and Toppie.

PB/Warshade - Mr. Booger, and Dash Cosmicus.

Zapow

Here are my favorites. Keep in mind these are the folks I've worked with most.

Tankers: Tortuga and KO.

Scrappers: Marm and Alaric.

Blasters: MikeB7 and FP.

Defenders: Darkhart and Camma.

Controllers: White Clover and SnoBall.

Funeral-Pyre

Here are my faves:

Tankers: KO for deflecting all of Pyre's aggro and BlackThirteen for smashing down all of Trinity's pinatas

Scrappers: Capt. Spud for the team wipes and Count Valdros for his long flowy lockes and his big sword

Blasters: MikeB7 for his a'splosions and Kid Dynamo for his electric personality

Defenders: Top Defender, Camma, and Beau Shadow for their ability to keep Pyre alive for 30+ levels of teaming

Controllers: Top Phantasm for healing Sonic from lvl 1 to lvl 50; Merry for always risking her own butt to save Trinity's

PB/Warshade: Dash Cosmic for his space whooties and Mr. Boogeyman for always teaming with us whenever we asked

BlueBard

Eh, I hardly ever run with the same batch of heroes twice, it seems.  I don't run with you folks nearly as much as I'd like.  And I can't say that I remember the names of the good ones from the pick-ups.  So I'll just have to commemorate the 'good ones'... those folks who know what they're doing and don't cause team wipes.  The Tankers who soak it up, the Controllers who lock it down, the Scrappers who beat it down, the Blasters who mow 'em down, and the Defenders who keep everybody up in the meantime.  Most importantly, the ones who make it fun to play and not an exercise in frustration.

Special mention, I guess would go to people, not toons.

The founders of Freedom Reborn who got the whole ball rolling and make it a great SG.

Spud and Verfall, for their seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of the game and their willingness to share.

All of the FR folks I admire who make me want to play CoH because they have so much darn fun at it: Zapow, Tortuga, Alaric, Direwolf, Viking, BAD, GDaybloke, and a whole bunch of others.

MJB

I don't get to team with FR folk often. These are just off the top of my head...

Tankers: Demonik & Adamence.

Scrappers: El Condor & Soulshriek.

Blasters: Emerald Cloak & Arctic Pyre.

Defenders: Wilma Wrigley.

Controllers: Phantom Eyebrow. Playing with PE is a hoot.

PB/Warshade: I dunno. Hard to recall.

-MJB

Adamence

After reading all these other entries, I can't help but feel like I haven't played with all of you guys enough over my 8 months playing the game to really have a great opinion of toons and I haven't played with a large selection of them, except for just about all of Spud's, but he doesn't really count because he eats kittens.

Props go out to Em and Condor for having the nerve to actually pick toons of mine, unlike the rest of yous.  That's right, I said yous.

Tankers: Going to have to give this one to Lindsay Lohan.  While being a squishy as hell fire/fire tanker, with Spud at the controls, she is probably the best herder I've seen, and does some pretty significant damage too.

Scrappers: Soulshriek and California Hustle definitely get the nod here.  Always fun to team up with them, every mission turned into a crazy dance party.  Plus they were around when Adamence dinged to 50, so there's some sentiment here too.

Blasters: MikeB7 has saved my bacon on a few occasions and he just plain kicks [expletive deleted].  That and I'm not allowed to pick my own blaster.  Second place would go to Emjaybee, just because I teamed with him a lot, and it's always hilarious to watch him die.

Defenders: I really can't think of too many defenders from the community that I've played with for any appreciable amount of time, so I'm going to have to give it to that handsome boy wonder who made that Shard TF much more fun with his crazy antics and healing prowess, BooBoo.

Controllers: White Clover wins here.  Great toon, nice powers, very helpful in a multitude of situations, and unlike all the other toons I picked in other categories, not bad to look at :P.  A close second goes to Chokepoint, just for his sheer killingsmanship, but I really don't want to encourage Spud too much, so he won't win.

PB/WS: Other than Stillfire, I don't know if I've played with any PBs/WSs from the community, so I'll give this category to... El Condor's Khled, whatever it's called.  Go Kheld Condor!

So, looking at the toons, it looks like Mikey wins.  Apparently he's just that great.  Go Mikey, you're so fine... you're so fine... something... something... something...

El Condor

"Having played so long" with FR translates into "Having played since December" for me, so my list is less histroic than y'all's, still....

Tanker: KO - Momma was the first FR tank I teammed with (Winter Event) and the one that saw me through to my first 50. And, boyoboy, what gams on that beauty!

Scrapper: California Hustle - The scrapper I "tried out" for FR with, and he discoed with Condor pretty much through the last ten levels.

Blaster: Emjaybee - He and I did a lot of damage together through Condor's final decade.  Plus, he showed me the joy of the ice secondary, which inspired my latest blaster.  Can't wait to unleash some frosty bad-ness myself!

Defender: Wilma Wrigley - Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere!  Gotta love that.

Controller (tie): Liquefaction/Chokepoint - Not a cop-out, but rather two controllers who were equally important to me in different ways: Liquefaction for gamefully teamming with me early on and showing me the joys of playing the support roll; Choke for teamming with Condor a lot approaching 50 and demonstrating the damaging, debuffing, giddy bad-a@@ side of 'trolling.

EC

Viking

I feel unloved.  Maybe the Speedo scarred everyone's psyche for life...

gdaybloke

Picking one from each hero AT's a beyotch, especially when everyone has toons I love to team with, but... hrm...

Tanker: This is a _really_ tough call, mainly because for the longest time, I was the only tank regularly playing. The only other tanker I saw with any frequency at all was Verfall, who became for me the standard to measure KO against. While we played differently, and our toons were kitted out accordingly (Momma was more aggressive), I still consider Verfall to have set the standard for Invulnerability tanks for me. I never really teamed much with the speedo'd wonder, so I can't in good faith show him any love, Viking. Sorry, dude.

Scrapper: How could I, in good faith, choose anyone BUT the Fu? Props go out to California Hustle for being possibly the most fun scrapper in the game thematically, I can dig it, but Ant Fu was Momma's little buddy and we wub him. The other contender would have to be the ever-lovely Jade Moon, object of Saint's unrequited affections.

Controller: It's hard to think of a Controller that really stands out that I teamed with a lot, but I'll toss this one to Stone Corral. Every time I see that toon, in his singlet and cowboy hat, I think "Damn, that's a groovy concept".

Defender: Continuing to choose characters based on their interaction with KO, this one has to go to Atomic Saint, damn his tiny fin. The fall guy of the team every time, he consistently played illogically, running down a different corridor from the rest of the team, charging in ahead of the tanks and scrappers, eschewing force fields... but you know what? He made it to 50, and had a ball every step of the way. I don't think we ever fully determined, story-wise, if Saint was Momma's sidekick or the other way around... either way, every time we teamed was pretty much a comic adventure. Beaukins gets a nod too...

Blaster: There's a handful of honourable mentions, but in the end the award goes to MikeB7. Teaming with Mikey is always a delight, but it's even more fun when he screams "Aim for the nose hairs!" while blasting from, say, four feet away from the target, when you have 60 feet range. I still remember when Mike first started playing, and trying to teach him how to be a blaster... oh Lordy, what a monster we created...

Squid: Mr Boogeyman. He's the one tentacled monstrosity that I've teamed with most, so he's the one I have the most fun memories of teaming with. Metamorphosis is endearing himself to me nicely.

In the end, it's pretty obvious that my favourite buddy toons are ones that I teamed with while playing Ms Knockout. I guess that secures her as my favourite toon then, since I clearly had the most fun while tanking with her. Beans.

Midnight

Hmm... hadda think about this. My criteria boiled down to: "Who do you think of when I say (AT)?"

Tanker: This is an easy one. Verfall is synonymous with tanking in my mind.

Scrapper: Being 'the guy who teams with BoW' I'd be remiss to not include a couple. I teamed with Blondestar for 40 or so levels on my Blaster, so she gets the nod.

Blaster: Buncha people sit here. Gday, for being... Gday. Surefyre, oddly enough, sat dormant for a year or more, but I'll always remember her as the first FR/NRF toon I ever teamed with and the first one to kick my arse at PvP night. And... poor Energos. :P

Defender: Hard to say, but probably Prodigy Pete. I still remember the video where he took a mob of +4s/5s by himself with minimal effort.

Controller:  Hard to say. Chokepoint was probably the best vocal controller I've ever teamed with and he had a good concept too.

Squid: Another BoW: Moonglimmer. She and I ran together for... 20? levels. I also did a lot of AV smashing for the poor thing.

And... for Viking:

Brutes: Absolute Brut was one of the first brutes I teamed with consistantly. Some people picture some big demon or robot when they think of brutes, but I imagine... a mime.

Ephemeris

Tanker - Verfall.  The best tank on freedom.  He could handle so much aggro that he melted a video card.  This picture doesn't do him justice, but shows a fraction of what he was capable of: (He's the black dot inside the left snow monster's left leg.)

Others that stand out for me include Tortuga for the great Dreck banter and all-round stellar play and AncientSpirit for helping to show Clownprince and myself the ropes throughout the teens.
ERIKTHEGREAT needs to be mentioned for making Hamidon fun for a while.  Who else could get blamed for something when he wasn't even logged on?  More freezing rain!

Blaster - Rain Maker.  Always willing to come to someone's defense (His video of his elec/elec blaster in RCS after the global defense/invulnerability nerfs springs to mind).  Aggresive playstyle that certainly influenced a bunch of us.  Embraced debt.  Spent countless hours strategizing with him in the Hive before Hamidon was first defeated.
Others that stand out for me include Texas Jack for those massive street hunts in IP along the bridge and Brickstown and Emerald Cloak for taking his concept all the way to 50 without caving and getting a travel power.

Defender - Darkhart.  Bugbear would quietly exceed all expectations of what a healer should be.  Never sought any accolades for a job well done.  Set the standard that I tried to duplicate with White Clover.  Plus a great concept.
Others that stand out for me include TW's Goth Cakes for a great concept and look, Kinova and Rain's Prodigy Pete for the same reason Middy mentioned earlier.

Controller - Angak'China.  TW's toon with the funny name.  He built this supposed 'gimp' Mind/Storm controller into one of the most powerful characters I've seen.  The amount of chaos he could create was awesome to witness.  An absolute monster in pvp.  Nerf corners!
Others that stand out for me include Spud's Chokepoint for being the opposite of what I believe controllers are supposed to be and doing it so damn well and Stopman for providing those helpful tips, binds, links...etc. when the game was still new.

Scrapper - Super Hero USA.  Time Titan's first scrapper.  One of the strongest scrappers I've seen.  He and White Clover were virtually inseperable in the later stages of the game.  Also one of the strongest pvp toons I've fought, too bad he rarely steps foot into that arena.
Others that stand out for me include Jamie's Destructo Spin for annihilating everyone in pvp and Flim's Africanized Bee for the look especially now that he's got his insect wings.

MikeB7

Quickly off the top of my head...

First off, I gotta shout out to the Simulding group (Spud, Funeral-Pyre, Top Defender, Beau Shadow and Camma).  When I think of great teams or favorite characters, they come to mind first.  Much love!  *thumps chest*

Scrappers:  Captain Spud/California Hustle  Duoing with Spud then joining Simulding for our first 50s.  It was a hoot, and always a challenge trying to keep up with him.  And stay alive.  Tort's California Hustle is probably the coolest concept/look/execution I've seen, I HAD to get in on that once I saw him.

-Brute side, conceptwise, Viking's Absolute Brute (the noble speedbump), and Eph's Freebase, who would have been an absolute blast to play with Hustle/Soul, having just awesome costumes and binds.   :)

Tankers:  Verfall/KO  As has been stated before, Verfall is THE tank when it comes to aggro control and herding.  Watching him herd almost the entire cavern of DE on the Eden trial was just amazing.  All those colors!  KO is just an awesome concept and execution.  A treat to play with - everybody loves Momma!

Defenders:  Atomic Saint  Always a riot to play with - teaming Fuuu with AS made me realize just what a powerhouse Rad is.

...that's all I got right now.  I'm gonna go play some more.  :P

Viking

I am mollified.  Of course, I've realized that I haven't typically had great luck in being able to team with most of you guys - I tend not to have a toon in the same range as the current, vogue teaming group, and I hate leveling my toons to the point where their contacts and mission arcs are old and stale.

That said, I realize that much of my time is spent villain-side, so...

Dominator: The Great Gusto, as created by Tortuga, is the most colorful character I've seen.  A brilliant concept that led to the creation of a rollicking great villain group, Circus Infamous.

Mastermind: Zapow's Weaponeer was the first Mastermind I teamed with for a good many missions, so he certainly sticks out in my mind.  A great visualization of a bald, power-mad scientist who nevertheless dresses stylishly.

Corruptor: Khira, as played by Camma (unless I'm mistaken), has been an awesome teammate.  Not a boisterous personality by any means, but an incredible combination of team support and enemy-shredding.  Kudos also go to SilverScarab, a villain from Direwolf's fan fiction.

Brute: Crazy Kate, played by Alaric.  It was a blast watching Alaric realize how much fun it is to rush around SMASH-ing things.

Stalker: Harold, as played by Gdaybloke, despite his relentless slobbering over my female villains.  His Lordship, played by Direwolf, also deserves a mention - he looks like he belongs in a James Bond movie.

GhostMachine

Tanker - Verfall and Direwolf.

Scrapper - El Condor and Marm, and Nightmask when he was around.

Blaster - Emjaybee and Emerald Cloak.

Controller - White Clover.

Defender - Have to pass, as I haven't really teamed up with any defenders from the community often enough.

Kheldian - Although there have probably been others, the only Kheldian, PB OR WS, I can even remember every teaming with would be Mr. Boogeyman. And even then that was only for a couple of missions or three.

Villain-side, I've never teamed up with anyone enough to judge, as I usually solo or do pugs when I run one of my two MMs....because everyone's always busy or in a full group when I bother to ask.

The Phantom Eyebrow

(I got a mention... whooo!  :D)

I can't say I've really played enough to discern your characters by archetype; it takes all my focus to concentrate on the next fire fight some of the time.  I can say though that it's invariably been great fun so far playing with any of you.  Apart from being very, very  helpful and showing various degrees of patience with my non-stop barrage of "what does this do?" type questions; the in gam interaction is generally a hoot too!

Perhaps in time I'll have a better picture but I suppose one of the big factors towards being a favourite character is how well it dovetails with my own char, and being an altcoholic I have too many different types for one favourite to emerge too easily.

Tortuga

This is very tough to make a list such as this.  Nearly everybody from the FR community has been what keeps me in the game for 3+ years.  So to say I appreciate one person's character over another doesn't do how I really feel any justice.

So I'll just say this.  Talos Island Minotaurs was easily the funnest team I've ever played with in CoH.  MikeB7, Texas Jack, jamie and FuzzyOne (FR outsider) were simply a hoot.  I would add that everyone who participated in AFBL and enjoyed it made that whole thing fantastic.

Pfft. Kings Row Forever!!!!

Bugbear

First things first...  /em hugs Ephy

Okay, I'll take a stab at this.

Tanker:  There are a lot of awesome tanks in our community, and I've enjoyed playing with all of them.  However, I can't help but go with my main turtle, Tortuga, the one and only.  ALWAYS a great attitude and fun to hang with.  And much like Verfall's point about teaming with Direwolf, it was awesome to team up with a character you'd followed for years.

Blaster:  I'm torn here between my fellow Founder Kid Dynamo, idol of teen girls everywhere, and the scourge of all evil clones, Gday.  Each a joy to team with.  Going to have to call this one a draw, or else let them shoot it out.  Honourable mention to Smokin' Fire, my fellow Hami Raider and Badge Hunter.

Defender:  Val Curie from BoW.  When you've stood your blaster toe to toe with a spawn of 12 +5s, including bosses, and remained standing 'til all around are dust, then you know you've got a real Defender at your back.

Controller:  Fright Faire, also from BoW, and also played by Windy.  So skilled in so many aspects of the game, and so badly in need of a NERF!!! (j/k).  Fright was a fabulous teammate on any number of Task Forces and Trials, including holding my hand through a 90 minute STF so I didn't look like a total n00b.  Also the first Babe to invite me on their 50 team.  And a great, great concept.

Scrapper:  Do I even have to say?  It's got to be Marmeille, my CoH soulmate since day one.

That wasn't so hard, but I feel bad about all of those I've left out.
