And the new movie is...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.

Mouthfull, isn't it?

stumpy

Could consonant catch-alls chronicle compromised creative capacity? Criminy!  :P

ow_tiobe_sb

Why not dub it "Attack of the Clones"?

ow_tiobe_sb
Phantom Bunburyist and The Prat in the Hat

Talavar

The rumoured title, City of the Gods, was better.  Too bad.

Glitch Girl

While the crystal skull is kind of a cool artifact, the title doesn't fall trippingly of the tongue.  I think it's too long.  The alliteration doesn't bother me though (except I'm tempted to replace "kingdom" with "curse" for some reason)

Raiders of the Lost Ark...
Temple of Doom...
The Last Crusade.

All great titles.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull sounds more like a fantasy flick.  Even rearranging/shortning it to The Crystal Skull Kingdom doesn't help.  Something about that title just falls flat, which is disappointing.  The many other rumored titles sounded more interesting.

I'm sure the movie will be good - no matter what the title.

Not like it matters anyways.  Lets face it... on the signs and at the tickets booths... and what we're all going to ask for is, "Tickets to Indy 4 please."  :P

I noticed the same thing about the fantasy-novel-evoking nature of the title. My first thought was that it should be Harry Potter and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.

(Of course, I've been re-reading the last few HP books, so that's been on my mind. BTW, as a total aside, re-reading HP&tHBP,
Dumbledore's death was much sadder this time through, when I knew that it was real. Man, for that poor kid to bear witness to the death of his only remaining father figure and the only person in the world he thought could protect him from Voldemort must have been crushing.
)

Somebody online described the awkwardness of it by likening it to renaming Raiders:
"Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost ark of the Covenant"

However of all the titles that Lucasarts filed with the MPAA:

    * Indiana Jones and the City of Gods
    * Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds
    * Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth
    * Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
    * Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold
    * Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant

The crystal skull one doesn't seem THAT bad.

** Why is it that Im about 2-5 minutes behind Stumpy in EVERY post today.... Weird.

I have to say...

Indiana Jones and the 4th Corner of the World would have been my favorite.

AncientSpirit

It should have been called,

Indiana Jones and the Quest for Lost Youth.

:D

Viking

The title is so that people won't be surprised at the following scene:

Jones: This crazy Kraut is crackers!  He crashed in here and crassly tried to kill us!

Marcus: Oh, Indiana, what alliteration!

Jones: Thank you, darling!

(*That's adapted from The Producers for those who are wondering.*)

While I'm still not sold on them needing a 4th movie, and the title still sounds silly to me, the newly released teaser poster is pretty cool (Curse you Drew Struzan for getting me excited)...

I see they managed to get three "K" sounds in.

Having a Crystal Skull makes it sound like the Phantom is in it.

Or it's tied in with the second House movie.

I seriously think that Swavoroski should heavily sponsor this movie.

Protomorph

"Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" sounds fine. Leave the Kingdom out of it. Who cares about it, really?

Tortuga

I'm teaching alliteration to my students!

Latest from a Vanity Fair article...

QuoteAnd then  :spoiler: Lucas gets a little more :spoiler: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will apparently nudge our hero away from his usual milieu of spooky archaeology and into the realm of  :spoiler: science fiction. "What it is that made it perfect was the fact that the MacGuffin I wanted to use and the idea that Harrison would be 20 years older would fit," Lucas says. "So that put it in the mid-50s, and the MacGuffin I was looking at was perfect for the mid-50s. I looked around and I said, 'Well, maybe we shouldn't do a 30s serial, because now we're in the 50s. What is the same kind of cheesy-entertainment action movie, what was the secret B movie, of the 50s?' So instead of doing a 30s Republic serial, we're doing a B science-fiction movie from the 50s. The ones I'm talking about are, like, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Blob, The Thing. So by putting it in that context, it gave me a way of approaching the whole thing."

Hmm... looks like the rumors of Roswell could be true.
