Lex Luthor vs Superman

Just had this thought. How would you make your Lex Luthor hero file be able to beat Superman? Does he even stand a chance? Or is he simply a nuisance for Superman? Barely worthy of Superman's time.  :P

Or would it be just better if Lex Luthor simply be like Mr. Mechanical and just let his inventions or underlings do all the work for him?   ^_^

If that's the case, then wouldn't it be no fun at all to play as Lex Luthor then? Maybe he would only fit nicely in a mod, as that very elusive villain always working behind the scenes.

Edit: But doesn't Lex Luthor deserve a fighting chance against Supes? :P

Edit: Ok..sorry...didn't see there was another thread similar to this. http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41863.0

Well, he would stand a chance if u put him in his combat armor which he used in comics on several occasions, even in this form he can`t beat big blue, but he could put up a good fight (read public enemies).

I tend to think that Luthor isn't a real combat threat to Superman, at least not consistently. It's what he does behind the scenes that makes him a good villain. For that reason, he is better as a campaign villain than a one-on-one Rumble Room opponent. Realistically, if Luthor can keep from being KOed in a couple minutes of game time, he's won because that's about how long it would take him to escape, given the chance.

When he is prepared for a fight and has his suit, then he can slow down Clark and make an escape, maybe get in a lick or two when Supey is weakened somehow. I think that's generally what the comics show. His combat armor, even at it's best, isn't Kryptonian level (though I don't know about this apokalyptian stuff).

If I had to design a Luthor character for the game, I would try to make sure of three things. First, Lex is not above fighting dirty. That means kryptonite, red-sun beams, etc. Second, while he may not be a one-on-one threat over the course of a battle, he may have one-shot powers that can take Superman down a peg or two, but then be unusable. (Think of FFX weapons with one shot.) Third, he has allies and minions, people he pays or has tricked or coerced into doing his fighting for him. None of them may be able to do more than slow Superman down, but that's about right.

With Luthor, it's not about winning today, it's about living to fight another day.

As far as the game goes, my Lex(who is in his battlesuit.  Rather pointless to have him out) can put up a fight against Superman.  He will not beat him, but he's more than able to stop Superman from beating him, if not for a sustained period of time, perhaps for good.  Actually that's how it is for a number of my Superman villains.  Since he is probably not just the strongest, but best defended and varied offensive character in my game, I couldn't let all of his villains be cupcakes in comparison.  I know at least Metallo and Brainiac, all cannot KO Superman, but at the same time, because of their powers and attributes, Superman can hardly get close to them, let alone KO them in a timely fashion.

But back to Lex, admittedly, I've based my version on the JLU version(so are a lot of my other villains) so he doesn't have red sun radiation or Kryptonite at his disposal.  I think I'd have a time to find a way for these powers to affect Superman and only Superman(and other Kryptonians), so I left them out.  But what I do have, it does make Lex a relevant match for most, including Superman.

What's that attribute? Russian Doll?

Give Lex that, and have him start off in his armour (super strength, flight, energy beams, etc).

Once the armour is destroyed, Luthor's second form should be a normal guy with teleportation and a couple of gadgets (energy grenades, etc).
