Available in a bunch of places but I got mine from yahoo games. Wow... I cant believe just how good it is at ringing emotion out of the horribly mishapen monsters I create. My favorites so far were Townsend, a mean melee and stealth carnivore with a skullet (bald on top with dreads on the sides and back) and Blunderbuss, a spider like creature capable of spitting acid jimmies like a shotgun out of its face.

I wanted to try this thing out but i need to buy a new video card. Gosh a few years without gaming and your outside the loop all of a sudden

zuludelta

I'd love to try out the full game when it comes out... although I'll probably end up making some horrible looking and obscenely-named creatures

Downloading free trial right now... can't wait to mess with this.

Valandar

If you pre-ordered the full Creature Creator... IT'S out now.

And I gotta say, that thing is like CRACK. I've made 11 critters already.

I like the Trampzilla, Donkeycorn and Doofzilla. Too bad I don't think my computer will run the game.

UnfluffyBunny

heh, I like the donkeycorn :P
the great thing about the gallery, is if you download images of other peoples creatures, you can then upload those images into your copy of spore and have those creatures in your world, something about hidden info in the png

Lord Elcorion

i tried to get the free demo version of this running and even though my box meets all the minimum recomended specs, it just won't play for me.. it brings up the very first load page, the one with the rateing on it, then just falls back out to desktop after a couple of seconds.. i'm thinking mabe my video drivers must not be up to date, since that's the only thing i can see that could be cuaseing this problem.

Valandar

It may not be. There's a conflict between the game and the EA Downloader. If you have the EA Downloader, uninstall it, and reboot, and try running the demo again.

yup, that's what did it, thank you val.

Me and a friend spent allllll last night going nuts with challenges. "Make a beaver! Make a donkey! Make a llama!"

In our defense, my llama came out actually looking similar to a llama, and his was a crime against nature.

Main complaints:

HAS to be symmetrical, but I do like you can attach limbs to limbs.

Legs at the back, wings the size of pins, and a front body approximately the size and weight of Fred Flinstone...and yet it can fly and move faster than a six legged creature. And also doesn't fall over. Ooooookay...No implementation of physics and whatnot, but the thing is just too darn fun to hold this above its head

It IS fun creating things that are an example of humanitys disgraceful mental insanity. In so much as there is actually ARTICLES - not just webpages, ACTUAL ARTICLES - being written about the phenomenon called 'Sporn'. Don't even ask, just don't. You really don't wanna know.

EDIT: I LOVE how they are using PNG files to transfer information. That's just...immense. I can't put it into words what I feel about it, cos I don't actually know that many words

Glitch Girl

(weeps because her video card can't handle it and there's no chance of an upgrade in the near future)

The_Baroness

*is with Glitch Girl.... her video card doesn't support this either*  :banghead:

Awesome stuff Valandar... I was hoping there would be a way to "friend" you but I guess that will wait for the full release.

I decided to go on a Spider-Man theme and make Spider-Man, Venom, Scorpion, Lizard, Rhino, Vulture and Doc Ock. Feel free to load 'em into your creature creator, they look much better in the game than in the thumbnails the game generates.

Yeah. The Montycore looks a LOT better in game than he does on his thumb. He is NOT chocolate brown, for example.

hmmmm.. seems to be something wrong with the database on the website at the moment, i can't seem to view any of the creatures, although the rest of the site seems to be working just fine.. i'll check again in the morning and see if it's fixed.

Lord Elcorion

gotta wait till my tax check comes in hopefully after the weekend before i can afford to upgrade to the full version, but until then, here's my meager offerings. (note: all the creatures that have descriptions are my personal creations, the ones without descriptions were made by my girlfriend.)

I updated all my creatures in-game with descriptions, but the online profiles haven't updated. Any idea why?

BlueBard

Won't run on the laptop, but I played with the trial version at home a bit.  Nothing to show atm.

Does anyone know how to expand the body to make it bigger?  I figured out how to extend/bend the spine, but if there's a way to make the thing fatter I haven't figured it out yet.

captainspud

Hover over the thing you want to blow up (on the body, it's a spine link) and use the mouse wheel.

Confused the hell out of me, too.

Valandar

What I'm finding fascinating is the non-creature things people have made... a locomotive, motorcycles, cars, trucks, planes, spaceships, and the like.

Hm.  I suppose it's a natural interface, if not particularly intuitive.  Thanks!

Wonder if there's a related keybind for those who don't have mouse wheels...

I'm not surprised.  I watched the Spore trailer and it shows the creation of vehicles using pretty much the same interface.  Probably just different sets of parts to be applied.

Makes me wonder if there will be a way for people to mod their own parts, tho.  Now THAT would really open up the possibilities.

Well, you'd have to re-share them. Which basically means go through each one and un share it, restart, then go through each one and share it again.

Theoretically possible with everything except arms and legs (they use the same metaball setup as the spine), and even then is potentially possible - but why? Each part would likely also have a code, so that the PNG could keep track of that part's information. But this opens up a question - what happens when someone without a given 'extra parts pack' tries to bring in a critter made with said parts pack in his game?

Dunno. :)

Since I don't know how the creatures are built under the hood I couldn't say whether there might be a better way, or what will happen when you try to import a critter with non-standard parts.  Just pondering things...

Odds are, there won't be any clean way to mod the game.  But you never know.
