A Basic question

hey everyone

I've been thinking about getting FFvs3rd Reich for a while now, and stumbled on this site while looking to see if the skining community was still active.... and I'm very happy to see that it is! Some of the stuff I saw posted in the skins section of the site looks INCREDIBLE!  Last time I downloaded a skin was from The Skindex BEFORE it got busted by Marvel, so I've been out of this for a loooong time.

My main question is this: What is the cross compatability like between the original game and 3rdReich? As in, will any skin work in 3rdReich (I'd assume the answer is yes but thought I'd ask), and are all the more recent skins/meshes/fx/etc compatable with the original game?

I have a feeling I'll probably need to get 3rdReich (which I am anyway, so whatever), but some of the new stuff I've been seeing really makes me want to try them out in the original if thats even possible!

Also, out of curiosity, what is everyone's favorite places for skins?

Cheers!

Just about every new mesh or skin being released is actually being released for  :ff: , but is compatible with  :ffvstr:  .  In general, most things are compatible.  Some meshes have glitches, and there are some advantages to converting the old format skins to the .dds format, but for the most part, anything is usable.

This is less true for fx, true only if you undergo an involved conversion process for maps, and not true at all for mods.

most skins work fine, though  :ffvstr: also makes use of another file type besides the old TGA styles. meshes are a tricky matter, a lot of the old  :ff: meshes need to be converted to work properly in  :ffvstr: and some old ones don't. i haven't had an opportunity to see if the converted meshes will work in the origional, so i can't tell ya.. it's largely a mesh by mesh basis.. you just have to experiment and see. there's a really simple easy to use utility for converting meshes out, but i don't have a link handy, since i'm at work.. hopefully one of the other posters will provide that for you.
