Using Non-FF objects in FFVTTR

I tried to use a .nif from the game Morrowind but got the dreaded grey box on screen:

I can move the box with mouse...no problem.

I double checked my file paths, and tried converting it with EZNifConvert to no avail.

Does anybody know if it's possible to import other .nifs into FFVTTR?

I imagine it can be done. After all, you can import a lightwave 3D model into FF/FF3R with NifSkope.

The Morrowind mesh structure is different to that which FF/FF3R expects so much hacking would be required.

Thanks Symon.

I discovered nifskope about 8 months ago but had no idea what to do with it until I read your tutorials (I was only using as an "advanced" character tool).

I have version 9.5 right now.  Do I need any special add-ons to import/export the lightwave models?

I have a lot of ideas for maps, but I find the earthly western (i.e. Euro-American) designs to be a little confining.

Thanks again for all your contributions.

PS--I'm working excusively on FFVTTR

EDIT--I'm also (stuck) on a PC (windows XP), if that makes a difference

EDIT2 -- I managed to import a .3ds object into Blender and export it back out as a .nif file.  I added a bounding box, base texture and copied collision data from a similar file.  The object appears in the in-game editor, I can manipulate freely within the 3d environment, but the base texture I added does not appear in game, nor can right-click->texture->export template to create a wiremap.  i posted the same question on the nifskope forums.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

NifSkope will import and export .OBJ format files, so in theory (and so far in practice) any 3D modeller that can export .OBJ files can be used to produce a .NIF.
