Voice mistakes...

I know I'm batting like a .200 here, but I was wondering if someone can assist me with a mistake I believe I made.  Now, I believe I found what the mistake is, but I'm not entirely sure about correcting it.

Well, I recently reinstalled FFX again.  The latest update.  Previously, I had installed VPMAX voice packs and they worked fine.  Well, since I've re-installed the update to FFX, I have found that all of the voices I had attached to my hero files have been ereased.  The individual files are still in the same folder they were installed in, but I cannot find them in game.  Upon reviewing information from the original download site, I found this:

QuoteIf you have custom FX, built-in characters, powers or voice packs installed, please back up your DAT files before insatlling FFX, and then merge them afterwards using FFEdit. Installing FFX overwrites all the DAT files used by the main game.

Again, I think I unfortunately discovered this too late and it was this reason that I cannot find my voice files in game.

Can anyone assist me?  Should I re-install VPMAX?  Would that work?  Is it as just as simple as merging a file via FFEdit that I neglected to do in the first place?

Thanks again for the help.

Merge character.dat, template.dat, and sound.dat from TO the ffx folder FROM the data folder.

I not entirely sure of all that you are referencing exactly.  I am moving these files where exactly?

jmoser

He's referring to the "Merge DAT files" function in FFEdit.  Click on it, then when it asks what you want to merge TO and FROM, indicate the three files (character.dat, template.dat, and sound.dat) FROM the data folder and TO the ffx folder.

The TO goes first, then the FROM.  That's why I list it in that order.  Counter-intuitive, I think, but oh well.

Just to clarify, you'll also be merging one at a time.  Characters, then sounds, ect.  The exact order doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, I think part of the problem might be because I don't see a template.dat file.  I see the other two and tried merging simply those.  Do I need the other as well?  If so, where can I find it?

Should be there right where the other two are.  FFX won't work without it, and neither will VPMax, so I know both copies are definitely there.

Alternately just reinstall the very last update to VPMax, which contains the latest FFX 3.2 compatible version of all of these.

How much of a difference would it make to know I'm using the original Freedom Force and not FFvTTR?

Then you would need to download EZVoice from Alex's web site because VPMAX is only for FFvsT3R.. merging from the newer language .dats to the older .dats would cause some problems (mismatched IDs and overlapping packs). You could manually add the voices by following the read me files in the voice folders because my collection would at least allow you to download all of the current voice packs at once.

Yes, as VPMax is only for FFvTTR and you said something about the latest FFX update (which is FFvTTR only) I assumed you were talking about FFvTTR.

My mistake Cat.  I do know FFX 3.2 is only for FFvTTR.  My reference was to the latest update for the original game.  I also mistakenly gave a reference to what I'm not using, as I was using EZvoice previously.  And because I was using that, CQ, I prevously downloaded the collection before.

Let me try to summerize what happen. The voice packs working smoothly until I tried to download customforce-x.  To avoid the problems I previously had with that, I decided to make sure I have installed the requirements for that particular mod, which included FFX.  So I did.  Once I got customforce to work properly, I reinstalled the updates to FFX.  It is since that time that the voice packs that I had previously do not work.  That's pretty much what Ive been trying to say... I think.

My original instructions about what to merge are still the correct ones, except that template.dat is not necessary in FF1.  So you should be good to go if you merged the other two.
