Quick question:  Is it common for meshes that have had pieces added to them to lose their effects (refl/glow), or is it just something that I may have done?

JKCarrier

I've run into this too. Not sure what the problem is.

Revenant

Yes it is rather common, but doesn't always happen.  You just have to make sure in the item's properties that it is listing the correct lightmap... I'm not at my home PC so I don't know for sure which node it is.

Look at one of the pieces that does reflect properly.. in the NiNode details (the window at the bottom of the screen, the hotkey to bring it up is F2), you will see properties, it should list a light Omni or somesuch... just change the values of the added pieces to that same number and they'll work properly.

Thanks Rev, this guy's giving me a bit of grief with the effects and I don't want to release it till I get them fixed.

Carravaggio

yeah, thats the goods, i can see some good uses for that mesh. nice work!

FLASH_22798

I couldn't get the effects to work, but with all my homework that I have to do, I just don't have the time to keep meeing with this guy.   As such, I'm going to release him as is and if anyone else can get the effects working, feel free to re-release it.

FLASH_22798

Also, would anyone be interested in Tom's tv mesh skoped down to "male_basic" and "male_muscular"?   I have one of each that I can release if anyone wants.   I 'skoped them down to basic from one of his starboy_tv meshes.

FLASH_22798

Does anyone know if Grenadier has given permission to NifSkope his meshes?

Also, I thought I read somewhere that you could use NifSkope to give meshes wiremaps, is there a tutorial for that?

I'd be interested in it.  I would assume that one could then use Nifskope to build it back up with pieces and then have smaller mesh sizes and still use all of Tommyboy's great keyframes sets.

Consider it loaded, Goose.   And yes one could then use Nifskope to build it back up and then have smaller mesh sizes and still use all of Tom's great keyframes sets.

I think I deleted something I shouldn't have on the mesh.  The nifs work with the keyframes from tommyboy "starboy" mesh but not all of the other keys.   I'll have to see what I did wrong.   Sorry about the misinformation.

I'll give it a shot, I don't think my directions were coherent on reading over them again (it was probably a really quick post for me...) Sometimes when you copy a mesh piece over, it retains a property that tells it where to look for the omni (a light source).  So you have to fix it, pointing it to the correct light source... I'll PM you if I get it working!

I was just playing around with the refl/glow thing the other day. This has worked for me so far, someone more NifSkope-savvy can correct me if I messed up/left anything out  ^_^ :

1. Make sure you have the "Block Details" window open (the one that runs across the bottom of the screen). It's under the "View" menu.
2. Look for a branch on the mesh called "Omni01". Hit the + sign next to it, and the next branch down should be "NiTextureEffect". Make a note of the number next to it.
3. Click on the NiNode of the piece you pasted on (the one that's lost it's glow and refl). Look in the Block Details window for the section called "Effects" (it's all the way at the bottom). Click on the + sign and see another branch called "Effects" open up. That's the one we want. Double-click on the "Value", and change it to the same number that's next to the "NiTextureEffect" you looked at in step 2.
4. Sometimes after you change the value, a copy of the old "NiTextureEffect" will suddenly appear at the bottom of the main Block List window. You can delete it.

That's it. Good luck!

Thanks JKC, that's what I meant to say, but I'm not at my home PC and can't go into NifSkope.

FLASH_22798

Thanks Rev, I'd appreciate it.

Edit: You guys posted while I was typing.

Thanks JKC, you too Rev.  I'll give this a try on the current mesh I'm working on.

I was messing around with my own design for Marvel's Titanium Man but didn't want to stray too far from the character.   This is what I came up with.   However, I'm having trouble with the mesh, some of the pieces keep floating around.   Any advice to keep the pieces attached to the meshes?

Are you pasting the new piece onto a "Bip01" node?
Have you deleted the "NiSkinInstance" branch from the piece?

FLASH_22798

QuoteAre you pasting the new piece onto a "Bip01" node?
No, I had pasted the pieces onto the scene_root node.  Usually I don't have a problem with this, but this time I took pieces from different sized meshes as well as rotated a few pieces.

QuoteHave you deleted the "NiSkinInstance" branch from the piece?

Last time I tried that on a mesh, the pieces stayed stationary while the mesh moved around them.

I'm assuming a combonation of the two is what I need to do to get the pieces to stay where I want?

I always end up doing both, but feel free to try them individually and see what happens. I'm still trial-and-error-ing my way through things, just like everyone else.  ;)

FLASH_22798

Thanks JKC, trial and error worked.   I finished both Titananium Man and the Crimson Dynamo that I was working on.   And I'm actually pleased with both meshes so I can release those this week.
