Mr. Hamrick

(not to nit pick but this might belong in "Film, Television, Video and Music Discussion")

I was just reading about a few current shows doing this night.  It's interesting how the phrase has suddenly leapt into "common vernacular" as of late.  Then again, it may have been there for a while and I am just noticing.

El Condor

LOL!

I would be one of those ancient enough to have witnessed the birth of this phrase.  Just being a kid, I thought it was the coolest thing that Fonzie was doing the Evel Knievel over a shark tank.  Little did I know that I was observing the kill-shot to my beloved "Happy Days".  Ah, those were Happy Days indeed....

EC

Protomorph

It all comes back to Fonzie.

In some ways, that's one of the worst examples, not because it didn't, but because it's so debatable as to where this took place.

I suppose you could say that it progressively got worse.

Anyways fans do argue about this point.

There are more clear examples, although all are subjective.

Not to totally jack the thread.....but...

I kind of had to go with the majority on this one.  Losing the Professor was pretty much the zenith of the show (although, it could be argued that it was a little bit earlier).  The few shows left in that season were decent enough, because they were still on the downward side of the top.

And am I imagining things, or didn't Fox *drop* the series at the end of that season, and it was then picked up on Sci Fi for what was the rest?  I'd have to argue that that particular move is what inclined half of the original cast to not return....it's just that the Professor got written out while still on it's normal network.  The shift in the feel of the episodes was easily felt (like a 4.8 on the Richter Scale) once they got to SF.  It was still watchable for a while, but I think I'm glad that I lost track of it before they got rid of/replaced everyone else.

Actually, a lot of fans claim that the second season was were it jumped the shark and that the first season was the only good one.  This partly because Fox wrested control of the series away from its creator, even moving filming positions, so they'd be closer.

Thus many second season episodes are more parodies of other works of fiction and more action oriented.

The professor was definitely a character I missed.
