Maximum number of characters in characters.dat? Or FFXedit?

Anyone know if there is one, or what it is if there is?
The most I currently have is 853, and I find adding more than that causes problems in FFXedit.
Just wondering if anyone else has pushed the upper limits...

Funny you should write this today Tommy: I've just reached 879 today (I keep DC and Marvel characters in seperate copies of FFX) and now FFX doesn't seem to be initializing my characters.

What kinds of problems are you having?

[EDIT]

Well, I've just confirmed that my problem stems from the number of FX installed. Once you exceed 1248 (if I remember correctly), the system fails to initialize. BTW, the number of built-ins cannot exceed 1000 (or around that), which I now remember is the reason I divided DC and Marvel in the first place.

If you fire up the FFX control centre/editor thingie, as you scroll down through the characters you will see entries for things that arent "characters" at all, such as generic objects. They are usually easy to spot as they will often have their path in the "name", ie "library/area/specific" etc.
This means characters dont get branded correctly so FFX doent work correctly.
It seems to happen at around the 850 or so mark for me.
