Anyone see what Sentry did in Mighty Avengers #3?

 :spoiler:

How much do you think that SHIELD heli-carrier weighs? Reminded me of what Superman did in Superman Returns with that jumbo jet but that was nothing compared to what Sentry did. I also loved the shot of Sentry pummeling Ultron and the building's windows shattering from the shockwaves, very matrixy. Hulk is gonna have his hands full with Sentry when he returns.

What did the Sentry do in "mighty" avengers #3?
What did any of them do?
Talk.
Talk some more.
Presumably they are waiting for the xmen to come and rescue them.

Ooh, tell me more about what Ultron was up to. I love that android.

Standing stock still for three issues as a bare naked lady.
Hooray for "adult" comics....

Spring Heeled Jack

Yeah, I just looked up that "female" Ultron.

You know, the appeal of Ultron is that he's a maniacal robot that hates humanity. I don't know why he'd want to more closely resemble humans. But maybe that's covered in the story. Either way, Ultron is the Avengers' best villain, and he should be given the deluxe, super-awesome treatment everytime.

Bendis said in an interview that the only justification for making Ultron a female was that Frank Cho wanted to revamp the character in a nod towards the new villians in Battlestar Galactica. Which of course is starting a trend for Mighty Avengers that every female must be naked or wearing a tight costume and all villians must undergo sex change operations. If that doesn't fly for all villians then they must have lots of female lackies in bikinis.

I apologise for injecting my venom into this thread, but this trend is totally ridiculous!  I thank my lucky stars that I do not collect and read comics at this time! If tommyboy is right, and this is simply the next chapter in the Bendisification of the Marvel Universe, I have absolutely no regrets about moving on to greener pastures.

Why do I have the distinct suspicion that Bendisification = the total and utterly transparent corporate sell-out of the post-feminist, Maxim-magazinified, sensationalistic world that we are currently so unfortunate to inhabit?  Whatever happened to fiction as a refuge from realism, eh?

Again, sorry for the outburst/rant.

As to the original post, it wasn't the Sentry alone that lifted the heli-carrier, but Sentry, Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man.  And while it may weigh more than the jet Superman lifted in the most recent movie, it would certainly weigh less than the minor continent Supes chucked into space in the same movie.

SingleMalt

 I forgot about that scene. Your right, that kryptonite continent had to weigh much more than the heli-carrier and Supes was weakened by the kryptonite fragments in it as well.

I actually enjoyed Issue #3. And the Avengers did more than just talk during the issue. Half the issue was a battle between Sentry and Ultrona, the other half showed Black Widow stepping up and taking command of S.H.I.E.L.D. which was an awesome scene.

I'm still not 100% convinced we're seeing the actual Ultron here though. I was a bit surprised to see the 'old' Ultron appear on the monitors in the hellicarrier. I'm still wondering if this female entity is in some way a "probe" of Ultron - like in Star Trek the Motion Picture.

Of course I'm still not convinced that Sentry should even be a character in the Marvel U. I read his origin story and it left a horrible taste in my mouth. I guess I could have swallowed him being a "new" character rather than him being some retconned character. And even though Sentry is supposed to be this awesome superhero....let me just say....Wonder Man ROCKS!!!! I've always liked the character, but I like him even more now. There he was helping the Sentry with *one* arm while holding a fighterjet in the other....!!!

"But I'm just as powerful as Sentry". Riight. So, can Ares take Sentry? He was pretty awesome in his miniseries. Being lit on fire and thrown into the group of japanese spirits is pretty hardcore.

I still don't like Sentry - I don't think the Marvel Universe needed a character like that, and I don't like the way he was injected - but I did enjoy his portrayal in Silent War #6. Kudos to the writer for having Sentry actually respect Black Bolt's power level, rather than the injustice Bolt's enduring in the World War Hulk stuff.

SingleMalt

In theory Ares should take almost anyone out, he is the god of war. I think that Sentry would beat the crap out of Marvel's version of Ares though.

*nods* I think that was the first time I liked how sentry was written in anything i've seen him in....

Put me down as a Sentry hater for the reasons you mentioned. especially how he was just injected and retroconed into the marvel universe.

KAAAAAAAAAAANG!!!!!

Spring Heeled Jack

Ha ha ha. I was thinking of Kang when I posted that, but I went with Ultron anyway. Ultron has closer ties to the Avengers, and he's the antithesis of all they stand for: tolerance, humanity and peaceful progress. I like how he's Pym's fault, and how his "family" is so closely intertwined with that of the Avengers. Every clash with Ultron is a civil war.

Another reason the Sentry breaks the Marvel Universe:

Did you see the bit in the recent miniseries where he has a computer constantly monitoring the world and telling him where he's needed the most so he's constantly zipping around from one danger to the next?

I don't mind so much that it's a blatant ripoff of Kurt Busiek's Samaritan in Astro City (if you're going to steal, steal from the best). But what it means is that in any Marvel Comic you read, no matter how earthshaking the danger seems, there's some other more important thing going on elsewhere. Otherwise the Sentry would be there.

Furthermore, if there is some danger threatening the whole world, if the heroes fail, don't worry.  Because the Sentry will swoop in and solve the problem 10 seconds before anything really bad happens.  This is a guy for whom Terrax is just a distraction.

thanoson

Curious to just when did Terrax engage Sentry. Right after Annihillation? I didn't like this fight or the one with Crusher Creel. I don't belive Creel ever had a problem with absorbing too much power. And how do you go and break the thing that makes Terrax so awesome? Really, someone at Marvel has a big umm... (edit) for Sentry.

Unless he can't get out of bed that day.  I mean, he does have the whole crippling psychosis thing going on.
