I have been away awhile and am relearning how to intall this stuff. I am finding that I am having trouble reinstalling the heavy mesh with hercules skin. Everytime I install it the standard heavy skin shows up with no sign of the hercules skin. I am a bit confused with this. The hercules skin folder is there but it will not show up.

Look at the names of skins male_heavy meshes use.
What are they called?
Thats right, "Male_heavy".
Now look at the skin you want.
what is it called?
"Male_basic"
See where this is going?
rename the "male_basic" type files to be "male_heavy".
If they are in the right place they should then work.

Lol, I just love how blunt you are. The Hercules skin is male_heavy so that is not the problem.

GGiant

Is it like this?
male_heavy/skins/hercules/male_heavy.tga

GGiant

Check your spelling at tga.
P.S it's Courtnall6 not courtnal6. ^_^

Are you trying to view the skin in CTool (FF1)

or CTool2 (FFvTTR)?

Meshes and skins go in different locations on your hard drive for each game.  If you are using CTool1 and you do not have a customised location for your meshes and skins, your skins should go in C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force\Data\Art\custom_characters\MESHFOLDER\skins\SKINFOLDER.

If you are using CTool2 with the U.S. version of FFvTTR and you do not have a customised location for your meshes and skins, your skins should go in C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters\MESHFOLDER\skins\SKINFOLDER.

It is possible (but not likely) that, if you are using CTool2 and you have a second copy of the male_heavy folder in your C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs. The 3rd Reich\ folder with the intended skin, CTool2 is not reading the new skin because it is not in the proper location.  As long as you have done what tommyboy and ips have instructed, and if the wild scenario I have detailed here is not the source of the problem, then I have no idea what the solution might be off the top of my head.

Also, you might try re-saving the skin in a graphics progam using the "Save AS" option (after backing up the original skin-always leave a way to back out of changes), and be sure it is saved in the 24-bit format. If this doesn't work, copy the back-up files over the "Saved As" files, and hope someone else has an idea.

You might also be sure that the mesh is in the proper game. I've found a few meshes that don't say in the text file that they are for FFv3R, and they don't display in FF1.

And, if you aren't one of those (like me) who sometimes looks at the skin in Photoshop first, yo might pull it up in a graphics program and be sure it isn't just a blank or corrupted or something.

My bad (on both counts).

I found a copy of the male_heavy mesh and hercules skin that I used before on a disk. I installed it and the same thing is happening. In the character creation screen I can see the Hercules skin shows up fine but in the game or when I am creating a ai for him, the mesh reverts back to its standard skin. This is really weird, the skin is heavy_male the same as the mesh. What is stranger is that this mesh/skin worked fine before I reformatted. I have no idea what is happening here.

This may sound simple (or stupid) but try this, go to your hercules hero file in the game and cycle through the skins for male heavy until you get to the Herc skin and click "ok" instead of "cancel".     Sometimes this will happen if you edit a hero file with a hero editor.

I am trying not miss the obvious, so I tried it and still the base skin is used instead of the Hercules skin I selected. Now this will drive me nuts until I can figure it out. :banghead:

SingleMalt

I have tried that already, but the default skins are still there. I know that should not be possible but they are. Now you see why I am  :banghead: over this?

tommyboy

FF or FFV3R?
TGA or DDS?

And are you 100% sure there is only one instance of the mesh on your system?

SingleMalt

Geez, finally found the problem. There was another male_heavy folder in the ffx3 folder. Your question made me look again Tommy and then I found it. Thought I was losing my mind, I need a beer now.
