I must say this Sinestro Corps event is not disappointing in the least bit. I'm going to go on a limb and say this is probably one of the best "big events" I've read in years. I won't reveal any spoilers for GL#23 but I was amazed by that issue.

What's everyone think of the event so far?

tommyboy

I'm enjoying it.
Every issue has been good to great.
It's kind of a shame that it's come during such a monsoon season of "big events" from DC and Marvel, because I think its kind of getting lost in the shuffle, as a lot of the other "big stories"(from both companies) at the moment are actually pretty good too. Consequently it isn't standing out as a well crafted multi-issue classic in the way in which it might have three years ago.
But thats kind of irrelevant.
On it's own merits it is a big, sprawling, epic that is redefining characters and concepts in the DCU without ignoring, trampling on, or needlessly retconning past continuity. It's actually ADDING to past continuity.
None of the villains have pointlessly changed sex, the "heroes" have not spent six issues literally doing nothing but talking, there have been few gratuitous moments of tasteless violence.
Just a big, credible threat housed within an actual story, with good art.
I'm not a rabid GL fan, it's one of many books I'd ignore for years at a time, not because it was bad or I disliked the character(s), it just seldom grabbed me. But since Johns bought back Hal I've been reading and enjoying it, and this latest storyline has moved it up my list of comics I look forward to.

It's pretty good so far. I don't like the space-whale design but you can't have everything. I think it's nice that they've finally mentioned that Guy used a yellow ring before but he really was not any more aggressive with it and, in fact, really seemed to mellow somewhat as his solo series progressed even before losing the ring. I hope they pony-up soon and get to the red and blue lanterns...

Somebody around here suggested that the Blue Beetles could be the blues, and the recent revelations about them would fit.  Not to mention that the group as a whole are apparently villains, which could make things even more interesting. . .

yell0w_lantern

Yeah, skrulls, whatever.

So do the Blue Beetles actually manipulate blue energy? I've never bothered to follow this new BB. More of a Ted Kord kind of guy.

catwhowalksbyhimself

That that I've seen, but not all the lanterns necessarily have to use energy in the same way, plus Blue Beetles scarab is apparently malfunctioning anyway, otherwise Blue Beetle would not be a hero.

yell0w_lantern

Okay, so we've got green (GLC), purple (Star Sapphire), yellow (Sinestro Corps), and blue (Blue Beetle) accounted for more-or-less. Any word or speculation on the others?
And do we know what emotion the Blue Beetles might be founded on - misery, perhaps?

Ajax

I've only read eight issues of BB and from what I can tell the Scarab is (like metioned before) brokenish. Also the blue power seems to be the enemy of the Green Lanterns, which means whatever emotion it is connected to can't be positive. We also know that the suit is programmed to not hurt nature. So I'm not sure what emotion it would be connected to. Maybe Hubris.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Keep in mind, that it seems that any emotion can be channeled for positive or negative purposes.  Batman uses fear on the side of good.  Sinestro used will power on the side of evil.  And the Zamorans hardly wield love for the warm and fuzzies.

That being said, someone suggested intelligence, since all three Blue Beetles seem to be pretty good in that department, but I don't have any other ideas.

Anger, I think, would have to be one of them.  Red would make sense for that one.

Effigy is, however, somewhat similar to the Green Lanterns, and created by the Controllers.  He could be reconned into the first Red Lantern, and anger would probably work for him, although I admit, I'm not that familiar with the character.

yell0w_lantern

I'm thinking that any offshoots of the Guardians will probably be involved and the Controllers would certainly fill the bill - maybe the Darkstars will come back.

murs47

I read in an interview with Geoff Johns that the Reach weren't the blue spectrum of emotion, sadly :(
He was adamant in letting the fans know that there was a deep history between the Reach and the Green Lanterns though. Kind of disappointing, I thought it would have been cool.
I somewhat think he's just BSing because he wants to surprise the fans with it's eventual reveal. Just going to have to wait an see. ^_^
