I'm running Windows XP SP2 using Freedom Force Patch 1.3 and whenever I click on the sounds tab in FFEdit, the editor crashes.  Anyone else encounter this problem?  Is there a fix?

The patch does not fix FFEdit.  It still crashes under SP2.  There is no fix.

That's most unfortunate.  :banghead:  Thanks for the quick reply though.

Theoretically, could one send somebody with a properly working FFEdit a list of things they wanted done in the sounds tab, then that person (after making said changes) could send a copy back of their sounds.dat for the first person to merge?

Sounds tab worked just one time on my computer it was when i removed all dat. files from data folder by the way is it possible to use level edit for  :ffvstr: with  :ff: somehow ?

Theoretically, it's doable, as long as you can access FFEdit to do the merging (I'm guessing by the wording that it's just the Sound tab that's causing you problems).  However, if this kind samaritan has more changes in the Sounds tab than you do (say, more than just the standard changes made by EZFX and FFX), then you'd end up with those, as well, but most likely they wouldn't have any effect, other than making the sounds.dat bigger than it needed to be.

It's possible, however, to do all of this with a seperate copy of sounds.dat in a different directory (as long as all of the pointers on the Options tab were set properly), thereby eliminating both bloat you don't need from the file you get back, as well as bloat he doesn't need in his own file.

I don't think it's possible at all, as I think the two games (and hence their editors) are too fundamentally different from each other to work properly.  However, I've not tried it out myself, so take it for what it's worth.  ;)

I don't know if you can use FFvT3R's level edit for FF level editing, but very many of the DAT files that both FFEdits use have the same format. So, for instance, I would bet that you could move an FF sounds.dat file to whichever mod folder your FFEdit2 is set to work on (after backing up / renaming that mod's own sounds.dat, of course), then open FFEdit2 and make changes in the Sounds tab and save them, then plop the sounds.dat file back to it's FF home and it should work for you. You cannot do that with all of the FF DAT files because the formats for some of them have changed (for instance, there is a different format for characters.dat, so you couldn't use FFEdit2 for work on the Characters tab), but you can for Sounds and it doesn't hurt to try with the others (just keep backups).

Very interesting (possible???) solution!  I'll have to give that a try!
